DEAR FRIENDS,

Welcome to Bravo!, our overview of Celebrity Series’ 79th season.

This was a season of many highlights, starting in September with the return of Let’s Dance Boston, our fifth public performance project, at which Bostonians of all walks of life enjoyed five nights of free, live music and social dancing on the Greenway.

All season long, we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s debut in Boston, presented by Celebrity Series in 1968. Events included a panel discussion at John Hancock Hall in December, a January school residency, two Revelations Celebration community workshops in February, and the annual performance run in March.

The season was filled with great performances with an unprecedented number of artist debuts. We presented the fourth season of Stave Sessions, our mini-festival of new, contemporary artists. We continue to attract new households to our audiences and our donor base grew for a fourth consecutive year. Thanks to your generous support and attendance, Celebrity Series posted another operating surplus.

As another season approaches, we remain deeply grateful to our Board of Directors and Overseers, our donors and audiences, and to all who support the performing arts in Boston.

LIVE PERFORMANCE! ARTS FOR ALL

In the spring of 2018, Celebrity Series announced an exciting campaign to strengthen the organization, catalyze artistic innovation, and deepen community engagement. The LIVE PERFORMANCE! Arts for All campaign aims to raise $23 million in three funds including the Endowment, Innovation, and Annual funds, making an enduring and positive impact on the arts in Boston. The impact will be on the stage, behind the stage, in the audience, and in the community.

Artists from across the globe inspired 2,896 participants in master classes, workshops, and artists talks.

NEIGHBORHOOD ARTS

Interactive workshops led by local artists and community concerts in six Boston neighborhoods engaged 8,934 individuals.

Schools, community groups, families, and students received 4,312 free and discounted tickets to 63 performances in our 2017-2018 main stage season.
