Water Safety The aquatic environment around rivers and lagoons can be unpredictable. Please take note of these safety tips: CHECK THE WATER CONDITIONS Beware of fast flowing water, submerged objects and deep water. Watch water levels in rivers as they can rise suddenly due to water releases from reservoirs and after heavy rainfall. During droughts, check for submerged hazards that may now be exposed and beware of poor water quality. Beware of steep, slippery or overhanging banks or paths. SWIM SAFETY Check the water depth before going in. River and lake bed conditions can change rapidly. Never dive in head first, never jump into the water from heights. Always enter the water slowly. Be aware of other river uses, especially boats and watercraft. Never swim alone. Make sure that someone else is there to provide or get help. Never use a tree rope swing. Tree rope swings are dangerous and are often associated with serious injuries. Be aware of currents and undertows. If you get into trouble in the water, stay calm. Signal for help, then float on your back feet first with the current. Don’t panic If someone needs help in the water, stay dry and reach out to them with a stick or throw a rope Inland waters can be very cold. Beware of hypothermia even in summer. Never rely on pool float toys to keep you safe. Avoid drugs and alcohol around water.

Fig Tree Park Punt Road Situated on the bank of the Murrumbidgee River and across the road from the Darlington Point supermarket and pub, Fig Tree Park makes a great, green stop for a picnic or a barbecue on your travels. Take a stroll along the levee bank, catch up with friends for an undercover barbecue, or explore a little further along the Goanna Walking Track leading under the bridge.
Lions Park Darlington Street Undercover playground, picnic tables and Dennis historic fire engine display. Built in 1955, the vehicle was used as Darlington Point’s town pumper fire fighting unit.

With outdoor exercise equipment, a skate park, barbecue units, sheltered playground, a kid’s traffic course and plenty of room to kick the footy of the lovey green grass - you’ll be able to stretch your legs and breathe in some fresh air!
Tiddalik Wetlands Campbell Street Tiddalik Wetland is a pocket-sized wildlife sanctuary, and a quiet haven for walking, bird-watching and connecting with nature. Central to the area is a series of ponds planted with a range of aquatic species that provide habitat, and act as filtration of stormwater drained from adjoining streets. A picnic shelter is provided.
Bend (Clock Sculpture) Carrington Street “Bend” is a digital town clock and a free standing structure over 6 metre in height. The design was created by internationally acclaimed Australian artist, Jonathon Leahey. The sculpture reflects Darlington Point’s hidden treasure and life blood the Murrumbidgee River.

Stroll through the River Red Gums (Eucalyptus Camaldulensis) in the Willbriggie Regional Park surrounding Darlington Point, and feast your eyes on the abundant and colourful bird life superb parrot, sulphur crested cockatoos, eastern yellow robins and kingfishers vying for branch space and on the lagoons, waterfowl such as pelicans, black swans, ibis, spoonbills and many types of ducks may be found. The occasional emu can also be seen.

Coleambally Lions Park Kidman Way and Kingfisher Ave The Lions Park at the entrance to town is an ideal spot for a refreshing break with a gas barbecues, rest facilities, dump point and an excellent fenced playground for the children. The information board has a range of information on things to do in town and see as well as the history of the town.
The Bucyrus Erie Excavator Cnr Kidman Way and Kingfisher Ave One of four machines that was imported from the USA in 1935 and used to excavate the main channels in the Murray Valley and the Coleambally Irrigation Area. They were ‘walked’ to Coleambally from Deniliquin following completion of the Mulwala canal and commenced work in the district in 1958. In 1978 the machine was driven to its present site and it is still in working condition. It is still in working order but is only started during the biennial Vintage Machinery Rally in August

Coleambally Water Tower Kingfisher Ave Sitting atop a sandhill in the towns centre, the unique ‘wineglass’ water tower can be seen over the tops of the cypress pine trees. The base of the water tower has a magnificent mosaic depicting the history of the local area. 24 ½ metres in height, with a capacity of over 1 million litres, it is filled from two deep bores. The site offers great facilities for a picnic.

Proudly welcoming visitors to the town is the metal sculpture of the Brolga. While rare in the area, this elusive bird is occasionally seen. The town entranceway celebrates this magnificent bird in metal sculpture form.

Kidman Way www.murrumbidgee.nsw.gov.au This 379ha not-for-profit working demonstration farm is Council owned land that is made available to community groups to utilise for cropping. This exciting and original concept has been operating since 1996 and has provided a structure for community associations to engage in agricultural pursuits for experimental, demonstration and local fundraising purposes. Tours are generally available during the biennial Taste Coleambally Festival.

Twitching Coleambally and surrounds is home to an extensive array of fauna and flora including the threatened species the Superb Parrot, and the Southern Bell Frog. Surrounding rice fields provide a valuable feeding habitat for many species of water birds, including bitterns, sandpipers, ibis, herons and egrets. Brolga, although rare, are found in and around Coleambally.

The Old Printery Enter via 45 Jerilderie Street (Jerilderie Library) Opening Hours: 10am to 4pm (closed Tuesday, Saturday and Sunday) ‘Doing the Bolt’ is an exhibition of convicts and bushrangers, including the town’s famous three-day encounter with the Kelly Gang in 1879. You can undertake a self-guided tour through the Old Printery (entrance via Jerilderie Library) to discover stories connected by ‘the bolt of a prison door’. The exhibition is housed in the former office of the Jerilderie and Urana Gazette run in 1879 by Mr Samuel Gill. The Kelly Gang tried to track down newspaperman Gill on Monday 10 February 1879, to have Ned’s 56 page manifesto printed.
Memorial Park and Garden Cnr Powell Street and Jerilderie Street Home to the Jerilderie Cenotaph. It is a peaceful site created to allow people to reflect and honour the fallen and those who served and continue to serve Australia in War. The park is also home to a Leopard tank, decommissioned and donated to the Jerilderie community and Jerilderie RSL Sub-Branch in 2010. A garden, established and maintained by the Jerilderie Public School and St Joseph’s Primary School, can also be enjoyed at this site.
Luke Park Powell Street
Visit Luke Park, with its fun children’s playground, fully enclosed and shaded. Enjoy a picnic or utilise the free barbecue facilities and undercover seating. Take advantage of the outdoor exercise equipment or be awed by the massive Steel Wings Windmill. One of only two of its kind in the world, the 50ft tall, 25ft diameter mill construction is an impressive sight. Made in Sydney in 1909-10, Steel Wings was acquired from Goolgumbla Station before being relocated to Luke Park in 1979.
Lake Jerilderie Powell Street Lake Jerilderie is a man-made lake which provides a safe waterskiing venue and fantastic recreational outlet for families. The lake is stocked with native fish and is frequented by many species of birds, including pelicans, ducks and swans. Lake Jerilderie is surrounded by an all-weather walking/cycling track and has a circuit of outdoor exercise equipment.

Yo-thun-ing-yunangarratya Mural 35 Jerilderie Street 1300 676 243 Opening hours: Viewing by appointment only Be sure to stop into the Council Chambers in Jerilderie Street to view the incredible mural gracing the walls of the chamber. Meaning Coming Together, the mural measures a massive 8 metres by 4 metres in size. It was created for the 2000 Olympic Games to provide a visual welcome to visitors for peace and safe travel. It was hung in Parliament House during the Games. The painting depicts various Aboriginal design elements including the Eaglehawk, which is the Barundji/Barkindji totem. It also depicts a white feather to symbolise safe travel, which is also a Barundji/Barkindji belief. It was created by four Barundji/Barkindji artists: Elsie Black, Gertrude Gittins, Eileen Ballangarry and Sos Hawkins. These women can trace their family back at least 700 years as direct matriarchal descendants of the tribe.

The 1.9 kilometre track includes a mini station, a bridge and tunnel meandering through the gum trees. There is fun for the young and the young at heart with steam and diesel engines.
