We celebrate the diversity of Aboriginal people and their ongoing cultures and connections to the lands and waters of our region. Connected by the Kidman Way, the Murrumbidgee Council area is linked to major markets including Melbourne (approximately 420 kilometres south) and Sydney (approximately 640 kilometres east). Covering an area of 6,880 square kilometres, agriculture is the backbone of our economy. The mix of temperate climate, rural location, food and fibre production, and the natural water assets makes our area ideally suited to agricultural production. This includes over 100 kilometres of natural river frontage to the Murrumbidgee River and also the longest creek in Australia, the Billabong Creek.

Coleambally A vibrant and harmonious community with beautiful gardens and streets named after local birds, the town was established in 1968 to service the Coleambally Irrigation Area. It's the State's newest town and was fully planned. An RV Friendly town, we're located on the Kidman Way between Darlington Point and Jerilderie, and offer a restful place to pause and revitalise. Coleambally is an innovative and robust agricultural centre. Over 90 businesses are located in the township area, with serviced industrial land readily available to investors. The Brolga Place retail precinct is right in the heart of the community. Open space, BBQ and interpretative signs are located within John McInnes Square. The coffee and cakes at Brolga Place are as warm and sweet as the welcome. There is a strong sense of community and pride in Coleambally. High levels of volunteerism make the Taste Coleambally Food & Farm Festival (every second year) and Riverina Vintage Machinery Rally (every second year) stand-out events for visitors and locals. Sporting and community events engage all age groups and interests throughout the year.

Darlington Point A thriving country riverside town set on both sides of the Murrumbidgee River and located 3 km north from the Sturt Highway, 30km south of Griffith, 400km from Melbourne, 600km from Sydney and about an 8 hour drive from Adelaide. Nearby towns, Griffith and Narrandera, have direct flights from Sydney and Melbourne with car hire available at the airport. Irrigation has enabled the development of intensive fruit, vegetable, grain and rice production. The district is an important part of the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Area food bowl, which provides outstanding produce for Australia and the world. “The Point’, as its known by locals, is a popular spot for fishing, boating and camping on the “Bidgee’. Jerilderie The township of Jerilderie, established in 1859, is nestled on the banks of Australia’s longest creek, the Billabong Creek, and is located on the Newell Highway, which is the main inland route linking Melbourne & Brisbane. Jerilderie (the English translation for the Jethi Aboriginal Tribe’s word of ‘djirridhuray’), meaning ‘with reeds’ or ‘reedy place’, is also the commencement of the Kidman Way. Jerilderie is where bushranger Ned Kelly attempted to have his 8,000 word manifesto printed by the local newspaper editor in 1879. The historic town is the only NSW town raided by the Kelly Gang. Jerilderie was also the home of the young Sir John Monash who, at 9 years of age, moved to Jerilderie with his family and attended Jerilderie Public School. The Skate Park contains banks, a quarter bowl, quarters and a spine. A fabulous all abilities open flow design that is fun to pump from side to side. The pump track is located close by and has a unique arrangement of banking quarters and humps with varying angles.
The Sports Stadium includes a gymnasium, indoor stadium for basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton, racquetball, half tennis court, two squash courts, dance studio and general ancillary amenities.

The olive grove plantings chosen to produce extra virgin olive oil consist of Leccino, Coratina, Manzanilla, Picual, Arbequina and Frantoio, while the table olives are Manzanilla. Fruit for table olives is picked by hand to ensure that only beautiful, undamaged fruit is processed. NED KELLY RAID TRAIL OF 1879
WADDI CULTURAL CENTRE
Jerilderie’s Ned Kelly Raid Trail is a self-guided tour of the 16 sites visited by Ned Kelly and gang in 1879. With 6 of the buildings directly associated to the 1879 visit still standing, it’s a fantastic insight into how the town looked when Ned visited. The trail is an enjoyable and educational way to explore Australia’s bushranger history. A comprehensive self-guided tour brochure, complete with timeline, has been developed for the Kelly aficionados to directly retrace the footsteps of Ned and his gang as they proceeded to carry out an event that was to become an icon in the annals of Australian history.

WE ARE HERE TO HELP If you are planning to hold a function or event within the Murrumbidgee Council Local Government area please reach out to our Tourism and Events Officer on 1300 676 243 or email mail@murrumbidgee.nsw.gov.au. An Event Application Form must be completed when hosting an event on Council managed land or when Development Consent is required. We can provide a vast range of assistance to event organisers including, but not limited to; Financial assistance through Council Community Grants Program Event advice and guidance. Including information to assist with traffic management, project management, risk management, waste management and food safety advice. Site maintenance Marketing and promotional assistance, including listing your event for free on our website
COMMUNITY GRANT SUPPORT Community organisations holding events are encouraged to seek support where needed from Council’s Grant Writer Officer who is available to assist local community organisations submit an application for projects and events funding. Your proposed project will need to be 'shovel ready', meaning you will need to have a firm plan for the project so that it is ready to start if you receive funding. A Community Funding checklist needs to be completed before contacting the Grant Writer Officer.
