Goodland Land and Sky Scenic Byway

From Interstate 70’s Exit 17, drive the nation’s first agriculturethemed byway. The scenery changes from day to day as the cycle of agriculture turns crops into food.

Soldiers Memorial Park and Smoky Gardens

Historic Thomas County Courthouse

Built in 1907, Thomas County Courthouse is full of rich history. It was placed on the National Registry in 1976.

Oasis Dog Park

An off-leash dog park at Exit 53 features separate areas for large and small dogs, complete with watering station. It also has a shaded picnic area and children’s playground.

Oakley Monument Rocks

Twenty-five miles south of Oakley, Monument Rocks, a National Natural Landmark, were formed from deposits left by an ancient sea.

Fick Fossil and History Museum

Oakley has been designated as the Fossil Capital of Kansas thanks to the worldclass fossils in the Fick Fossil & History Museum.

Buffalo Bill Cultural Center

A twice-life size bronze sculpture of Buffalo Bill Cody on his horse pursuing a buffalo is one of the largest in the world.

Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park

Welcome to the badlands of Kansas! Self-guided trails are open sunup to sundown and offer scenic overlook areas into the chalk formations. Ranger guided hikes are also available.

Butterfield Trail Museum

The Butterfield Trail Museum in Russell Springs preserves the rich history of Butterfield’s Overland Despatch stage line in the original Logan County Courthouse.

WaKeeney Cedar Bluff State Park, Reservoir and Wildlife Area

Cedar Bluff is named for the 100-ft, cedar-covered, limestone bluffs which rise above the south shoreline. Hunt, fish, hike and play at Cedar Bluff, located southeast of WaKeeney.

Smoky Valley Scenic Byway

The 60-mile Smoky Valley Scenic Byway travels through the Smoky Hill River Valley, a showplace of seasonal native grasses and wildflowers, windmills, limestone bluffs, and historic trails.

Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery

The cemetery honors our fallen heroes. The motto of the Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery in WaKeeney is “No one is ever buried alone. All are buried with honor.”
