Chairman Bruce’s notes Greetings one and all, The November working bee was well supported, gutterings washed and new mesh fitted to eliminate the oak tree leaves blocking the drains. The day before, Peter Wilton had trimmed all the hedges so all that was left was to clear the trimmings. All done by 11am thanks to everyone involved and thanks to Peter W and Eiligh for the yummy morning tea. Ther turnout to the Ladies’ run on the Sunday was a real disappointment for me and the organiser Linda O’Keeffe who was last years winner. 8 entries isn’t good enough. Linda, as does any run organiser, spent a lot of time and effort organising an interesting run. I expect a vast improvement to all our Sunday runs next year. Congratulations to this years winner, Glynis Robinson in the 38 Ford V8 and she is now, of course, next year’s organiser. Remember all members can participate but the winner must be a lady driver. The 170 year jockey club celebration went off without a hitch. I’d asked 4 members, Neil Farrer, 1914 Rover, Ian Chamberlain, 1917 Buick, Dave McDermid, 1930 Ford A and Rob OKeeffe 1938 Buick to supply vehicles for the parade, Thanks to all. The December Club Night was a cracker of an evening with a 67 member turnout. 6 cars were entered for restoration of the year. Tom

Brett London entered his 1967 Triumph Saint. Chris White won the car section and Brett London the Motorcycle, well done to the winners and all of the entrants for their hard work but the results are rewarding when finished. The items of interest also went down very well and the winner of the Christmas Hamper raffle was Peter Whitton The Christmas Parade was well supported by club members this year on yet another blistering hot day (The morgan didn’t overheat) and a huge crowd turned out to watch. Thanks again for the members that assisted with their time and effort. Next year we are going to meet at the Grand afterwards for a social beer or coffee Don’t forget the world famous, Gumboot Rally being held on the 1st of January and remember that this is a Wanganui Branch Rally run by our members for our enjoyment, See Page 16 for details.

January 9th Club night is our picnic which will be a noggin and a natter night plus Bar-B-Q at the clubrooms. Come along in your club vehicles with family / grandkids in tow to enjoy this social evening. Bring your preferred meats for the BBQ and a salad for the table, sausages and patties will be supplied. Burma Rally and the Vintage Weekend Jan 18th - 21st planning is well under way, get your entries in to Linda as soon as possible. For the Wellington anniversary morning run on the Monday assemble at the Cornmarket for a 9am start. It will be an interesting run around the outskirts on the town with a late morning tea at a place of interest.
All club members are welcome and you don’t have to be a rally entrant. Branch members please bring along a plate for the morning tea and farewell to our visitors. On a sadder note we had the passing of a long term member Barry Thoms and also Dianne Glennie, Ross’s wife. Our thoughts are with the families and friends at this time. Veteran Wanderings. (Neil Farrer) Armistice Day 11 November - Three Wanganui Cars ventured down to Woodville to assist Armistice Day commemorations. Ian Chamberlian -Buick 1917, Neil Farrer – Rover 1914, and Neville Gorrie – UNIC 1914. Neville had previously had the UNIC taken over to Woodville for some work – but managed to join the gathering. We joined up with Allan Hardacre from Manawatu – Dodge 1915, and other cars. It was an impressive ceremony with an Army platoon in attendance from Linton. Afterwards all Woodville over 70 residents had been invited to a Free Lunch – we were included. CHB VCC Veteran Rally 17th and 18th November. Nine vehicles lined up at the start , plus other cars. On the way several vehicles developed problems and the drivers reverted to Moderns for the run. This was a serious rally - Leaving the start in Waipukurau for a short run to the first stop – Jewellery craft plus a 1946? Commer truck that had been in the family since new. A few more miles and then a stately older home, Morning Tea and a look around the property (including a series 1 Land rover. Picked up a packed lunch. A ramble around the district – finally ending up at “Lunesdale” homestead . Home of the Bibby family where we enjoyed our lunches sitting in the sun or on the veranda. After lunch a drive through the farm to visit the “Bibby Church” built in 1911 and still used. Downhill to highway 50 and onto Ongaonga for an ice cream . Then using back roads back to Waipukurau. I am pleased to report that the Rover performed well, even cruising at 40 MPH on the flats much to everyone’s astonishment. Dinner at the Pub with everyone participating in the evenings entertainment – starting with a Sketch with a motoring theme and in teams to complete words, colouring etc. a lot of fun. Sunday was a combined run with Hawkes Bay VCC to Waikareao Station about 16 miles from town. There was a great group of vehicles including 5 veterans - I counted 58 . Steve Antstis and Wife had sold their property approx. half way up the Parapara’s and purchased the station about 18 months ago. Great grounds and a nice day for lunch on the lawn. A number of Hawkes Bay VCC members remembered the Rover being build in the 1980’s by Ces Bishop. They were pleased to see the Van on the road and going so well, thanks to the work by Ian Chamberlain and others – especially the correcting of the timing issues. Coming Home, a stone through the windscreen of my Ssangyong put a damper on what otherwise had been a great motoring weekend in the company of a group of 100 plus year old vehicles. Her conscience got the better of her and she added, "Plus, he's screwing me." "He certainly is," replied the captain. "This is the Staten Island Ferry."
Linda’s Ladies Run, What a very pleasant afternoon drive through town and country. Linda had the balance just right the ladies, Doreen in my case, did the driving, whenever someone needed to leave the car Linda insisted the it was the female that had to exit the car, obtain the clue, and in some cases a card, and then hand over to the clip board holder, me in our case. I don’t know why we didn’t call in the Red Lion on the way to the club. Few domestics, maybe a slight conversation before we settled into our new roles, I did wonder if it was wise allowing her into Hunting and Fishing unsupervised but it turned out OK as I had the EFTPOS in the car with Toby and I. Bit of a surprise to find out how many toes a chook has, is one a thumb, and how many free range chickens Ian has, unbelivable. For those who missed the afternoon you were the losers, if you missed it because you hadn’t a lady available you could have taken a leaf out of Ian Chainberlains book and put on a wig and walked in a rather strange manner, he got away with it. Back at the club and the scores were anounced, third was Doreen, Second was Glynis and Wendy, who keeps cropping up recently, was given the first Prize. Thanks for a great afternoon of total relaxation, (Yeh Right!)

Saturday morning I got up early, dressed quietly, made my lunch,grabbed my clubs, slipped quietly into the garage and proceeded to back out into a torrential down pour. The wind was blowing 50 mph. I pulled back into the garage, turned on the radio, and discovered that the weather would be bad throughout the day. I went back into the house, quietly undressed, and slipped back into bed. There I cuddled up to my wife's back, now with a different anticipation, and whispered,"The weather out there is terrible." My loving wife of 20 years replied: "Can you believe my stupid husband is out golfing in that crap?" I still don't know to this day if she was joking, but I have stopped golfing.

Thank you to everyone who helped at the Working Bee on Saturday 17 November some great work done on the grounds and clubhouse building. Special thanks to Peter Whitton for his expert work in cutting and trimming the hedges. The November Run was the Ladies Run held on 18 November – a very interesting and enjoyable run won by Glynis and David Robinson. Thanks to Linda O’Keeffe for organising the Run – the number of members attending was a little disappointing but those who came along had a fun time. Four Wanganui Vintage cars joined the Wanganui Jockey Club’s ‘Time Parade’ at the recent Race meeting celebrating 170 years of Thoroughbred Horse Racing in Wanganui – well done to those members who presented their cars with pride and colour and showed another aspect of Wanganui History. Please complete your Entry form for the Burma Rally to be held on Sunday 20 January 2019 and send it through as soon as possible. If you are not able to enter the Burma Rally but would like to help on the day please let me know. AUSTRALIAN LETTER - I think the sender might have been upset! This is an actual letter sent to the DFAT (Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) Immigration Minister. The Government tried desperately to censure the author, but got nowhere because every legal person who read it couldn’t stop laughing ! Dear Mr Minister, I'm in the process of renewing my passport, and still cannot believe this. How is it that K-Mart has my address and telephone number, and knows that I bought a television set and golf clubs and condoms from them back in 1997, and yet the Federal Government is still asking me where I was born and on what date ? For Christ’s sake, do you guys do this by hand ? My birth date you have in my Medicare information, and it is on all the income tax forms I've filed for the past 40 years. It is also on my driver's licence, on the last eight passports I've ever had, on all those stupid customs declaration forms I've had to fill out before being allowed off planes over the past 30 years. It's also on all those insufferable census forms that I've filled out every 5 years since 1966. Also... would somebody please take note, once and for all, that my mother's name is Audrey, my father's name is Jack, and I'd be absolutely bloody astounded if that ever changed between now and when I drop dead !!! SHIT! What do you people do with all this information we keep having to provide? I apologize, Mr. Minister. But I'm really pissed off this morning. Between you and me, I've had enough of all this bullshit! You send the application to my house, then you ask me for my bloody address! What the hell is going on with your mob? Have you got a gang of mindless Neanderthal arseholes working there! And another thing, look at my damn picture. Do I look like Bin Laden? I can't even grow a beard for God's sakes. I just want to go to New Zealand and see my new granddaughter. (Yes, my son interbred with a Kiwi girl). And would someone please tell me, why would you give a shit whether or not I plan on visiting a farm in the next 15 days? In the unlikely event I ever got the urge to do something weird to a sheep or a horse, believe you me, I'd sure as hell not want to tell anyone! Well, I have to go now, 'cause I have to go to the other side of Sydney , and get another bloody copy of my birth certificate - and to part with another $80 for the privilege of accessing MY OWN INFORMATION! Would it be so complicated to have all the services in the same spot, to assist in the issuance of a new passport on the same day? Nooooo, that'd be too bloody easy and makes far too much sense. You would much prefer to have us running all over the bloody place like chickens with our heads cut off, and then having to find some 'high-society' wanker to confirm that it's really me in the goddamn photo!
