Chairman’s Report HI everyone Well another month gone autumn on the way (cold in the morning now bugger) I think everybody will agree the wallaby rally was a success ,all the people I spoke to really enjoyed it I even had a couple of emails saying how good it was (really pleasing ) A BIG THANKS to everyone that helped WELL DONE Movie nite coming up on the 19 th MARCH so lets get behind this the more tickets we sell the more money we make We will be the only ones to have this movie (IN WAIMATE) PORK PIE so we will get a good responds, BUT we will have to sell it Barry has done some posters (thanks barry) so we will have to put them up PROJECT PREFECT is going along smoothly ,we have so far got 4 boys and 1 girl attending on Fridays Hopefully after our open day we will have a few more older children for the Saturday session starting about 1pm onwards I would like a few more members to participate Anzac day is coming up so lets havea good turnout of car for the parade please keep the Tuesday 25th April free Also don’t forget coming events Elections (office bearers Garage raid (date to be arranged) Swap meet someone to arrange Another visit to murray stuart in Otemata Well thanks again for your help and support YOURS IN MOTORING STEVE

Club Captains Report February saw the Wallaby Rally committee organise a fantastic run, with 70 entries, plus another 15 on the saturday morning. The weather played its part, and Bush Town was a perfect venue for lunch. Barry Duff, is our new club room convener, and is already doing a great job. Big thanks to Bill Ryan,as previous convener,for the work he has put in to this position.

The Waimate vintage car club are privileged to have the opportunity to have as a fundraiser the premiere showing of the movie “Pork Pie”at the Regent picture theatre. Date of screening is 19th March Time will be 5.30 pm.
March will feature an open day on the 4th, to try and get some young people involved in learning how to repair, and maintain a vehicle. Starting about 10.30 there will be a free sausage sizzle, and hopefully interested parents bringing their children to see what we have to offer. This is part of what has been dubbed "Project Prefect", with a group of primary school kids learning how to dismantle an old car, then put it back together again! The last Friday group appeared to have a lot of fun. Please feel free to come and offer your help and expertise. Steve Dyson can give you times and days etc.
Cost of all seats will be $12.00 To make this a successful fundraiser for our club, we need to assist in the Promotion of the movie in our newsletter and posters, facebook etc.
On the 19th we have the film "Pork Pie" on at the theatre, and will be using it as a fund raiser. Details in Rolling Wheels. Come for a great night out,bring your grand kids.and your friends and make it a successful event. Safe driving

Waimate Wallaby Rally 2017. The long Run of the Rally started of travelling the Streets on the Outskirts of Waimate, Before heading through the Waimate Gorge into Waihaorunga. They then travelled down to Ikawai,over Dog Kennel Road and onto State Highway 1. They turned Left onto Gum Tree Flat Road, Back through the Waimate Gorge and headed for the Lunch Stop, which was at Bushtown. This Route was an Interesting and Enjoyable Drive. The Short Route Drivers Headed out to the Waituna area and then on to Hunter. They then meandered down to Makikihi. They travelled down State Highway 1 and turned of onto Lower Hook Road, through the Hook area and back towards town, travelling the outskirt Roads of Waimate before heading to Bushtown for lunch. There was three easy field tests organized for the drivers in the Competitive section. Lindsay Hosack and Joy M’Ivor spoke to us about Bushtown, outlining what they had achieved and there plans for the future. Afternoon Tea and Prize giving was held back at the Clubrooms. There was a few Bumps along the way, but overall an Interesting and Fun Day and great motoring. Thank you to the organizing Group, and everyone that helped on the Day. Bill Ryan

Motoring Trivia: Who Invented the Windscreen Wiperblade Can you imagine driving in a downpour without windscreen wipers? Mary Anderson couldn’t either. As a woman from the South (where cars were not common at the turn of the 20th century), she was hardly a likely candidate to invent the windshield wiper. Nevertheless, inspiration stuck Mary Anderson one frosty day in 1902 resulting in the makings of an essential component on all vehicles as we now know them.
According to history, drivers in the 1900s relied on a concoction of onions and carrots, smeared onto their windscreens, as a way to repel water when it rained. When the mixture washed away they would stick their heads out the window so as to see where they were going! Whilst on a trip to New York City in 1902, Mary Anderson saw that drivers kept both panes of their double front window open so as to increase visibility during inclement weather. Noting how ineffective this was, Mary Anderson designed a more practical solution – a hand-held device (windscreen blade), connected to the interior of the car,
which the driver could easily operate by pushing a lever.
Mary Anderson’s windscreen wiper consisted of a lever inside the vehicle that controlled a rubber blade on the outside of the windscreen. The lever operated by causing a spring-loaded arm to move back and forth across the windscreen and a counterweight was used to ensure contact between the wiper and the windscreen.
Discouraged, Mary Anderson discontinued production of the wiper blade and just as her patent expired, the popularity and production of motorcars (and need for windscreen wipers) began to gain momentum. By then Mary Anderson had already resigned her interests in her invention leaving room for corporations to access to her design. By 1920 windscreen wipers using Mary Anderson’s basic ideology and framework become standard equipment and in 1922, Cadillac became the first car manufacturer to include them in their vehicles.
