Editor’s Snippet Forgive me for presenting this months Venture with little content. The reason being the club hasn’t really done much due to Covid 19 with many events cancelled or postponed. I have filled out the EVENTS PAGE where I can but for many of the events a question mark should follow the entry. As I write it is Sunday the 23rd and our illustrious leader has announced that the country was going into RED as from midnight tonight. So what does that mean for the club? Maximum of a 100 indoors with one metre apart if all parties are vaccinated. So does the club have club nights under the RED light system? Watch this space? The government hasn’t given us any indication as to how long we will be in RED Talking of events. I see the Ladies Rally (6th March) has been postponed for this year due to no one putting their hand up to plot it. Surely, surely, one of you male members out there can spare the time to plot a rally for the ladies of our club. This is the only event specifically for the ladies so come on guys lets see some hands up. Don’t worry about the cup of tea etc I’ll do the cup of tea, we just need a rally plotted. If you have a little run in mind give Bozy a ring and he’ll give you all the support you need. I am writing this having just returned from the Vero International Rally. So how was it? If you weren’t there you missed one helluva an event. Everything was thought of down to the perfect weather for motoring. Only one morning of slight drizzle that was dialed in for no other reason than to wash the cars down while we slept. The entertainment each night was nothing short of bloody fantastic!! Jodie Vaughan, a fiddler Marian Burns (incredible) , Elvis - Che Orton, the class of 58 band with Shane Cortez and last but not least the revived Howard Morrison Quartet. Every evening was the icing on the cake for an incredible day of motoring around Taranaki. To Greg and Gaynor and their hard working (that thought of everything) team a BIG THANKYOU for a fantastic week. (see page 10) I’m struggling to keep up with what is going on in the form of events these days so if I miss anything out please forgive me. Thank goodness I have Heather (Secretary) who picks up when I’m slack and miss something out of the Venture.

Ch a irm a n ’s Ch a tter Chairman’s Report February Welcome to 2022. The year all began well, then when we were all getting comfortable Traffic Light turns RED. We attended the Vero International Rally in mid-January . This was a truly great event that had a great mix of cars and people, the organisation was superb, the runs interesting, the meals great and the entertainment 1st class. A huge thank you must go to Greg and Gaynor Terrill and their Committee for this great event. Probably the highlight for me was seeing all the public viewing our cars and having a great time at the Inglewood Street Party. It is always a measure of the success of an event when one of the retail food outlets sells out of food, well done. If you ever get another chance to take part in the next event, I suggest one think about it very seriously. Thank you to Ian & Jenny Patton for organising the Xmas Picnic a little different, great turn out with a visit from Santa also. While we are on thank you’s I must not forget Terry Pidduck and his able body of helpers for organising his years Blue smoke n pedals, a great fun event. So nasty old Covid is back!! February’s Club Night will still be held, we will be running this with strict adherence to Covid guidelines and will require members to scan in and have their Vaccine passes available for scanning. Gaynor Terrill will be addressing us on the proposed changes to the Logo and catch phrase. It is very important that everyone has their say on how Waikato’s feeling are conveyed to the National Executive meeting. Graham P and I will be attending on your behalf and we will take you direction and feelings to the meeting in Wellington. As we look forward we are still planning our future events. The Double 50 will be a little different this year – wait and see how this is will be a fun event. My report is a little short this time as it has covid.

S e c r e t a r y Secretary’s Report February Wonderful weather to start the New Year off, enjoyable for holiday at the beach. Family time is so important. Fantastic time in New Plymouth attending the Vero International VCC Rally. First big rally Graham and I have been on. I had only driven our Left-Hand drive 55 Chev 10kms prior to setting off on the 15 th January, arrived safely with Bozy towing the caravan behind me. Great week, returned home safely 22nd . Club night 9 th February presentation of the proposed VCC Logo change. It is very important that our members are aware of this proposal. Members were emailed the link to click on and listen to our National President Diane Quarrie and George Kear Management Committee. Your Waikato committee would like to see as many of our members along to listen to Gaynor Terrill present this proposal. Members will vote on the night, Graham Boswell our Chairman and Graham Pate will attend the Executive Meeting 12 th March and voice the Waikato Members decision on the proposed new Logo. I emailed to all members, “Ladies Rally” that was to be scheduled on the 6th March has been postponed at this stage, hopefully I may hear from a member (or several) who would like to arrange a car run including a visit to a property/shop during the run which can make this a fun day. Please, the committee requires as many members available to help/participate in car/ motorcycle runs. The more members we have to help makes the events a lot easier and enjoyable. M o to r c y c le Motorcycle Report February We had a good turn out for the Blue Smoke & Pedals on Sunday the 9th good to see some of friends from Auckland along again. Terry and his team laid out a number of tests which every one had a go at, the overall winner for these was Wayne Hayward. The last run of the day before the BBQ was a team event to see who could get round the cones that had been laid out in a figure of eight the fastest, Pat Holme’s Team was the winner for this. Thanks to all the helpers and the competitors who came along, a most enjoyable day. Our next event is the long Weekend Tour on the 25-27 February. We currently have 17 people entered with a few more days to go with the closing date 28 February. All is set for a good ride and hoping we don’t have to cancel with the ever fear of Omicron getting out of hand. We have started planning for the Mooloo which is on the 1-2 April. Robert Simpson has plotted a great run which we went over the other week, finishing at a very interesting lunch stop. Entries will be emailed out mid February, again fingers crossed that we will be able to go ahead. All for now, Safe Riding Peter

to cater for the special requirements of vehicles produced in the early days of motoring, and their enthusiasts.
Venturers Report - February What a pleasant day out our Venturers rural roads run in early December turned out to be. Supported by members bringing along a wide range of early era vehicles to the start point at Woodlands Estate to enjoy a coffee and a chat at the café which is now open and under new management. A gentle traffic-free amble along level country roads brought us to the Oasis Hideaway nearby to Goodwood School on Fencourt Road, for a light lunch before motoring on to the home of members Les and Sue King to linger over their collection of cars. Hudson, Chrysler, Essex and Willys-Knight in one shed and several projects in the workshop made for an interesting visit. Of particular interest, the W-K carried a plate on the dash indicating that it had been dated by the Veteran & Vintage Car Club (Waikato) Inc. as a 1926 model, which would have been done over sixty years ago. With the Chrysler engine in pieces, Alan was able to give some requested knowledgeable guidance on measures to be taken – a quid pro quo! And the projects – Morris Commercial and Model ‘A’ had enough work left in them to keep Les busy for a few years to come, with evidence already of good carpentry skills. For those keen, a final cup of tea at the clubrooms combined with a library or parts shed visit wound up a great way to come back from a Covid lockdown. Now coming up in March (18th to 20th) we have the Venturers late summer long-weekend tour. Whatever the ‘traffic light’ says at the time, we can run this event under conditions prescribed. The planned route goes from Whatawhata (west of Hamilton), on mainly rural roads to Te Aroha, with pick -up points along the way at Tamahere and Kereone. A special attraction planned for the Saturday will be a group arranged trip by restored boat on the Waihou and Ohinemuri Rivers from the Maritime Park & Museum at Paeroa, so you won’t want to miss this weekend. Three tour routes on the Saturday again this time, for ‘fragile’, ‘touring’ and ‘slightly more adventurous’ types. Saturday’s runs will start from outside the 8
Te Aroha Motel in Whitaker Street. There are several accommodation options in Te Aroha if you want to go ahead and ensure a bed for the weekend – check their cancellation policy though to be on the safe side should things turn against us. 16th - 21st January 2022 What can I say? Weren’t the organiser’s lucky? The rally finished on the Friday of the 21st and the country went into RED on the night of Sunday the 23rd. RED would have meant no rally. So how was the Vero International Festival? Nothing short of bloody incredible not only in the motoring department but also the evening entertainment. Bloody incredible doesn't do it justice but with a limited vocab it will have to do or maybe I should add EXCELLENT!! OUTSTANDING!! EXCEPTIONAL!! Our party arrived Sunday in time to register and get settled into our digs. The opening ceremony started at about 4.30pm with Greg & Gaynor Terrill and all the organising committee welcoming everyone to the festival of motoring. I will keep this article brief, but please don’t think for a minute that the length of the article represents the rally. From the moment we arrived until the last entertainment group left the stage on the Friday night we had a week of incredible motoring followed by some of the best entertainment I personally have encountered. The organisers decided that the rally would be run along different lines when it came to setting the cars off on the daily runs. We were handed at registration a large folder that contained ALL the rally notes for each days motoring. But where things were different is we could start at a time that suited us as long as we arrived at the destination at a stipulated time. There was no going to a park and all filing out at the same time and then end of playing follow the leader all day. A credit must go to the couple that plotted all the routes. Boy, did we cover some beautiful countryside around Taranaki. Many of the runs were designated long or short - it was your choice. Tuesday was a competition day for those that had entered at the time of registering. We never entered so I can’t write anything about it. All I do know is that Tracey and Wayne Hayward won a major division (see page 7) Thursday saw all the cars heading to Inglewood where the town had been closed off for the rally. All the cars were parked on the main street for the locals to admire. We, along with a few other club members found ourselves a table outside of the pub on the main street and that’s where we settled in for the afternoon. A big Gazebo was set up with tables and chairs where refreshments were dispensed. The locals poured into the town to not only admire the cars but to listen and dance to the live 10
music that was being played by a band atop a truck tray. I spoke to the owner of the menswear shop who was running around with a big smile on his face, his cash registered were singing the money tune. He said they needed the crowd as the town had been extremely quiet for the last few weeks. It was good to see the shop full with customers that were spending rather than just looking. Talking of quiet, I was disappointed to see the amount of empty shops in the main street of New Plymouth. I have been going to that town on business for many years and had never seen it like it is at present. I suppose cut out the main source of income (oil and gas) and something has to give. Entertainment each night was nothing short of memorable. We had a fiddler in Marion Burns that could make a violin smoke. We had an Elvis that didn’t put Elvis to shame who later came out and sang (Che Orton) minus the Elvis gear and had even the “I don’t dance” people up on the dance floor. Jodie Vaughan who is 71 and many if use will remember her as a young singer on What Now etc. 71 hasn’t softened her voice. The new Howard Morrison Quartet gave us many of the original Howard Morrison Quartet repertoire. Last, but not least, we had on the final night the Class of 58 with Shane Cortez (most will know Shane Cortez from Dancing with the Stars and such TV shows as Nothing Trivial). The last night saw the TSB Stadium where the function was held packed to the gunnels. All the tables were beautifully layed out with a magnificent flower arrangement in the centre. The catering was superb with a three course meal being dished out with precision. In conclusion, the rally was a week of fun and laughter, with some great motoring thrown in daily and everyday culminating with some of the best entertainment that money could buy. A BIG, BIG THANKS must go to our club members Greg and Gaynor Terrill who were the main organisers’s of the festival. I will take the time to repeat what Greg did many times over the week and that was to thank all the helpers who made the festival what it was, a very smooth operation. Thanks everyone.

CLUB XMAS FUNCTION Ian & Jenny elected to put on a quick last minute Xmas gathering at Karipiro Domain. Sausages on the BBQ and a side salad was the order of the day with an Ice cream trumpet for desert. It was a last minute affair with Cossy grabbing the BBQ. Ian and Jenny getting the steak and sausages and dropping off the trumpets to our place along the way (to go into the freezer). Everyone came along with a $5 male and female present for Santa’s sack. Steak and sausages all cleaned up and trumpets handed out it was time for Santa and his helper to hand out all the presents. There was a bit of present swapping with the knitted doodle/ball warmer doing the rounds. A big thanks must go to the organiser’s Ian & Jenny Guess who the Penrite Oil agent is below?

Our Chairman, Bozy handing over a “cheque” to the Hamilton Cancer Society representative for the sum of $1100 that was created by the auction night that the club had. The sum of $1100 was a lot less than the club had planned for. The club had originally planned to have rally’s commencing at all the main centres around the Waikato. Each area (Morrinsville, Te Aroha, Matamata etc) had planned to have the locals enter the rally with a $10 donation per car. Each towns rally was to culminate at the clubrooms for an open day. Alas, due to Covid they had to be cancelled which was a shame. Maybe we get a chance to do it this coming Daffodil Day in 2022??

Project Shed/Workshop Management Plan
The purpose of this Plan is to explain the running of the Shed and to ensure that it is used in a safe and efficient manner. The Shed should provide a space where members can enjoy fellow members company and work on their cars. It is hoped that instruction in vehicle service and maintenance can be given as a further development. Management A Committee of no less than 4 persons shall be appointed at Waikato VVCC AGM to oversee the shed activities. For the interim period the present Shed Committee will assume this responsibility. This Committee will be responsible for selecting suitable persons to engage in training to oversee all operations at all times. These persons will be known as Person in Charge or PIC’s. For the interim period the people are: Terry Pidduck 027 2726319 Andy Hammond 07 8235712 Graham Holmes 07 8277341 Paul Johnson 021 688211 Bookings Hoist bookings only. It is envisaged that the shed will be available on a set day initially for hoist work and this would be the same day/time each week. Safety Only those members inducted by a PIC and recorded shall be permitted to operate equipment and tools, this does not include the hoist which must be operated by a PIC. For any machinery to be operated at least 2 people must be present with one of these being the PIC. Safety is everyone concern, if you are uncomfortable with any items or any procedures please report this to the PIC so the matter can be resolved. First Aid is available in the Project shed. Prizegiving Celebration 27th November The above date seems such a long time ago but it missed the December issue and as we all know we don't do a Venture for January. As you can see the celebration was for Murray McKie for his 50 year badge. It was held outdoors due to covid restricting the amount that we could have in the clubrooms. The weather was perfect and everyone bought along their own picnic hamper rather than a potluck as sharing food was not on the agenda under covid. It was a good turnout and I must admit far nicer outside than stuck in a clubroom. Maybe clubnights over Summer under the RED light covid system should be outside on a Sunday? Worth a thought???? Our North Island Club Captain Karen Smylie presented Murray with his badge along with a bouquets for Murray’s better half Pat. 50 years is a long time eh? Someone asked Murray how many cars he had owned over the years? I lost count after the first dozen. All I’ll say is that he has had a few. Congratulation Murray well done.

To plot the next Ladies Rally As mentioned in the editorial the committee are looking for someone to plot this years Ladies Rally. Right now it has been postponed/cancelled for this year for the lack of a plotter, so lets make it happen. This is the only exclusive event we have for the ladies of the club so surely we can get a member to pick up the baton?? If you are interested, please drop a line to Heather (Secretary). You plot the run and the committee will take care of the rest. You can even set the date in consultation with the committee.

The following was handed to me by a member who asked not to be named and has signed the article off with the name “shedie”, so we’ll leave it at that.
Retired and love it
August 2019 I arrived home with a trailer load of bones of a 90 year old plus, vehicle. No running gear (motor, gearbox, diff or seats) but on the plus side the body was sound. The chassis was good with front and rear springs, front axel and steering box. No ownership papers (the rego was dead) but still had a tag on the firewall and a windscreen with a NZ licence sticker and a WOF label. That’s good I thought, that will get it back on the road one day. The next 2 years of my hobby time (plus a bit more) spent in the shed getting it to a stage of driving it up and down the road. Time to get it legal (let the fun begin). First I need a Vin number,. So off to see Waikato Vehicle Compliance who were most helpful, giving me alternative document forms to fill out and send to land transport. There is a list of documents and photos required, one for a compliance inspector to verify year, model and manufacturers tag or chassis number. He came to my place to inspect the vehicle (great service). All the forms/documents filled out it was time to send them off to Waka Kotahi and wait for the Vin number (yeah right). Four weeks later I get an email requesting images of chassis number and a Certificate of Authenticity from the VCC. A phone call to our local VCC Vic Co-Ordinator Dave Nordell who came the same day, took photos and filled in paperwork to send to Chch. Thanks Dave. Covid lockdown next day so did not get sent for two weeks. Seven weeks after sending I get an email from VCC Chch requiring more information. I talked with Dave who said to leave it to hime to sort. Next day I got a call from Dave telling me that it was in the mail, arriving in four days. So with a document stating it has not chassis number only a tag on the firewall and an Authenticity Document from VCC it was sent of to Land Transport with fingers crossed. I hope they stopped the clock as it states on their form that they charge out at $184 per hour. Four weeks later and no word I wrote a letter to enquire as to whether they had received the additional information? One week later I received an email thanking me for the additional information, BUT can you please send photos of the firewall tag? (this had been sent with the original application for months earlier). It took awhile for the smoke to clear and my words to stop being beeped. 26
So later that day I emailed I emailed more photos and with my tongue between my teeth I sent a nice message back. Six days later I get an email back with a letter of approval to proceed in getting compliance. This has taken just on five months to get to this stage. It is now the end of November 2021. I have spoken with compliance firm and will talk again late January 2022 to start next step to get it legal. I you are thinking of buying a vehicle with a dead rego and no paperwork showing NZ ownership start the process early.

After a discussion with the committee it has been decided that an advert from a non Waikato VCC member will incur a $15.00 charge. This will cover a three (3) month insertion. After the three (3) months it will be automatically withdrawn. The information in this newsletter and on the club’s web site, is supplied as a service to club members.
