We had another good turnout for the busy August meeting; we had quite a bit to get through for the up-and-coming events. Thanks for all the input.
The garage raid, on the 2nd of August, was a great success, special thanks and well done to the catering team. 100 pies, 10 kg of potatoes, 5 kgs of peas to feed our guests, some from as far as Ashburton. Thanks to the club members for opening up their sheds for this event and to Peter Bland for putting together the programme. I’m sure there was something to interest everyone with the wide selection of machinery on display.
Owen’s scooter run was another fantastic day out touring the beautiful Waimate / Waihorunga countryside. The weather was stunning, there were no mechanical issues, and the group enjoyed the barbeque lunch.
Our Daffodil day car display and barbeque on the 23rd of August was another successful event. Beautiful weather and a great turnout of all sorts of vehicles. The club’s efforts with this and the quiz, raised about $1200, for this great cause. Special thanks to Don and Maureen for their contributions to this fundraiser. Thanks to Steve and all those who assisted with putting on the quiz night, a very enjoyable evening’s entertainment, well done.
Thanks also to those involved in the Daffodil deliveries on the Monday morning.
I’m sure everybody is looking forward to the swap meet on the 6th of September, this is usually a well-supported event.
The parts shed is open Wednesday morning, this week, so come along for a cup of tea and chat, if you are about.
The first production cars to use tubeless tires as original equipment were all major US makes for the 1955 model year, following a Goodyear patent in 1903 and commercial viability starting in 1954. While tubeless tires had been available as aftermarket options before 1955, they became standard on new vehicles that year.
Cheers, Wayne
