Chairman’s Report
Graeme Doree AUGUST 2026 Another busy month has come and gone. Now we are in the first stages of spring with the days getting longer and the weather is settling down (yeah right). Lynette and I attended the VCC AGM in Palmerston North over the weekend of the 14th to 16th August. Had never been to one before so didn’t know what to expect. A well run event with reps from all but 2 clubs nationwide. Lots to discuss now that the new constitution had been finalised and a new format with clubs being divided into regions (ours is know as Central North Island) with an appointed regional rep who will liaise with Head Office on the regions behalf. Our rep is Clive Taylor who is from the Bay of Plenty club. Our area includes Taupo, King Country, South Waikato, Waikato, Rotorua, Bay of Plenty, Eastern Bay of Plenty and Gisborne. I will explain a bit more about this further on in the magazine. Exciting events coming up next week being our Pot Luck Dinner and Quiz night. Quizmaster is Heather Duncan so expect a range of questions to test your knowledge. This is on Wednesday the 9th. Seated 6pm. Mains and desserts required. We will have a quick vote on the proposed increase in National Fees before we start. More on this will be sent via personal e-mail. See you ALL there. Graeme

CLUB CAPTAINS REPORT Although I have missed the last couple of breakfasts it is pleasing to hear that the numbers attending are well up in the thirties, enjoying this time together. September events are now confirmed thanks to the efforts of the events team. The first event is breakfast at Lacus Café on 6th September around 8.30am. On Wednesday 9th September we are holding a club night starting at 6.00pm – Pot luck Quizine and Quiz. Bring a main course or desert to share. Think about your teams and turn your brains on. Should be a fun night Next up is the usual Coffee and Cars on Wednesday 16th at 10am. You will be notified via email of this month’s destination. Sunday 29th will be a club run. Terri and Eric have spent a lot of time putting this together so special thanks to them. We will congregate at the clubrooms at 10am with a 10.15am departure for a drive culminating at a venue for lunch. You will receive an email reminder. Check out the itinerary elsewhere in the magazine so you can record additional events in your diaries. Of note there is an upcoming trip to Hamilton Classic Cars on Sunday 18 th October. I have made arrangements with the staff and for those that have a Gold Card the entry fee is $12.00. Lunch is available on site at your expense. Drive safe out there Owen Duncan

LADIES DAY & PARTS SHED
I hope everyone who attended this month’s event at the club enjoyed themselves. Again we had a good turnout from our members. It’s great to see you wanting to come and socialise. The gents were certainly having a good natter in the shed before coming upstairs to join the ladies for a bite to eat. It’s also nice to see members of the public turn up to see if we have anything that might interest them. One chap turned up about five minutes after closing, but he was referred on. Not sure we can supply what he wanted but we can only try. For the ladies who are knitting for Elaine’s charity – Operation Cover Up, I have attached a photo of the latest blanket that’s been put together with our strips – it’s lovely with the blue joins. The charity will take these up until year end then they must be pure wool as the acrylic/wool blend is not warm enough for the cold countries. Wool – these blankets are the same pattern, 7 lengths, 40 stitches, size 8 needles (old sizing). Knit to 160 cm. Acrylic/Wool blend – remains same until year end. Knee Blankets - However moving forward knee blankets will be accepted in the acrylic/wool blend. The pattern for this is 7 lengths, 40 stitches, size 8 needles. Knit to 73 cm. Given that Lincraft is closing and going on-line, if anyone wants to do a mail order Heather is happy to co-ordinate a purchase of the layer cakes of the 20/80 blend for the knee blankets. As for the boys in the parts shed ( and the lady visitor) a good group turned up. A few sales to keep the place honest and some donations gratefully received. Tony Louis, ex Lake Auto Electrical has donated a large range of electrical parts, some tools and a lot of manuals which we will catalogue and get out a list. We do have an extensive library and this has been catalogued before. National Headquarters has a program we can use to make this easy to access and we will be looking into that to assist.

DAFFODIL DAY SHOW AND SHINE As you know the Vintage Car Clubs of NZ in conjuction with Ford NZ and the Cancer Society held a fundraising day on August 23rd. Our members cars had to be outside Ingham Ford for 9.30am to set up and grab the spots allocated to the club . We had about 25 members cars turn up and didn't they do us proud, all shiny and turned out to impress. Although a cold morning, the rain managed to stay away for the show and shine. Neil from Ingham did a bit of a count and a total of about 60 high quality classics/hotrods had turned up for the morning display. They made an interesting and impressive sight all lined up along Tuwharetoa St. We had a great turnout of interested people admiring, taking photo's and discussing the vehicles on display, A great day and lots of donations to the Cancer Society Daffodil Day fund raiser . Here are some statistics leading up to the day. 1 in 3 people will be effected in some way by Cancer.

Ford Dealers 29, VCC Branches 36, VCC Members 8500. In recent years over $500,000-00 has been raised by the Vintage Car Clubs of NZ for the Cancer Society. All these funds go to local area needs, not research. This year our branch raised $1769-00. A fantastic effort and over double last years. A hugh thankyou to you all. Also to Neil Dempsey (Ingham Ford), Hayley (Local Cancer Society Volunteer), M21 for donating 100 sausages for our BBQ.

The Vintage Car Club of New Zealand Annual General Meeting. Held in Palmerston North at the Distinction Coachman Hotel August 14 through 16. Attended by 34 of the 36 clubs nationwide I found it a very well run and respectful meeting. The insecurity of the constitution changes were gone and the new regional format was introduced to delegates. This is going to be a great time and money saver for the future. Discussion was had on an increase in fees and I will send you all a personal e-mail about this. Offical items on the agenda were the appointment of Kevin Clarkson as a life member. He is the editor of the Beaded Wheels Magazine and has been doing so for 25 years. A well received appointment by all those attending. The other formality was the cutting of the 80 year anniversay cake. This was done by the 5 life members. A great time with good weather there and back after a morning tea/lunch at the Manawatu Branch Club rooms. For those who flew in the Manawatu club provided transport in club cars. Some very neat rides indeed.

Coffee and Cars Wairakei What a fantastic turn out for our VCC Taupo coffee & cars meeting at the Warakei golf club today. The sun was shining and although a cold breeze it was a very blue sky day. We started at the clubhouse with about 12 members cars all shining and looking splendid in the morning sun, lots of greetings and chats (mainly about the weather and the cars) . After parking up at the Wairakei Golf Club with the members already there (about 21 cars altogether), we all ordered our preferred coffee/tea and cakes and the service and atmosphere was wonderful as usual. Lots of chatting and mingling amongst the 32 or so members along with downing that lovely coffee/tea. A great time was had by all . These events are really popular and even better when the sun shines, so see you all next time.

1968 USA BSA Starfire Motorcycle – Vintage Asking price $6,500
Features: Model B25 247cc Single cylinder Four stroke lightweight 19,000 ks WOF or reg not current but will be done upon sale
This motorcycle was produced by the Birmingham Small Arms Company between 1967 and 1971. It was imported from America. All American ownership papers and documentation can be included upon request. It is in mint condition and has been well looked after and loved. It currently has a female NZ owner who has decided to let it go to a good home. Bike located in Whanganui and is also advertised elsewhere.

Printing Tips Although you can print this magazine to A4 (either actual size or scaled to A4), this magazine has been set up in A5 format. This allows you to print 2 pages up on an A4 or even a booklet if your printer supports it. If you open the magazine file in Acrobat Reader, and select file>print, under Page Size and Handling (see image below), you can print multiple pages per sheet. Click File>Print>Multiple>Pages per sheet> 2 If your printer supports printing both sides of the paper, you can also print a ‘Booklet’. Which allows you to print, then staple and fold up into an A5 magazine.
