I’m pecking out this report a little out of the normal sequence as our editor is keen to put out a magazine without delay

However, there is little to report as apart from breakfast at Lacus not much has happened. The regular monthly meeting was cancelled as the intended speakers were not available and the Metservice had predicted grotty weather. As it happened the weather was not too bad, so I messed up that call, didn’t I ! While I’m on about the weather, the cyclone which passed through over the weekend did not live up to predictions for our part of the world, fortunately. There was virtually no damage in this area, although some adjacent areas did not fare too well. No doubt many of us were disappointed with the cancellation of Sundays motor racing, but it seemed to be the only sensible option when the call was made. Next weekend at Ruapuna should be interesting.

This is an opportune time for me to remind members of the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday13 th May. As I have indicated previously, I am stepping aside after 5 years in this role and a replacement Chairman is required. Elaine, who has done an excellent job, is also stepping down as is John Searle as Treasurer. We are fortunate to have received a firm offer from one of our members to take over as Treasurer. I am reasonably confident a replacement Chairman is lurking in the wings. I would sleep much better if there was an offer to be the new Secretary. This is an important position. I have no doubt that Elaine would love to have a chat with any member who had some thoughts on that role. The big event that encompassed our movement lately was the Vero rally in Nelson. A number of our members participated in this event and I have received some very positive feedback. There is a plan to have a presentation from some of them in the near future. Unfortunately, while Terri and I had intended to attend the rally there was a last-minute change of plan and we cancelled our trip south. We were both very disappointed at this turn of events. Maybe next time, whenever/ wherever that may be ?

Ladies Day and Parts Shed

Finally I was able to get myself along to the Ladies Day gathering - the first one for me this year. It was great to see some brave souls conquering the dismal weather, it was pretty chilly but us ladies got toasty with the heaters going. We had about seven ladies come out to chat, some doing crafts, some just for company. There were also a few men braving the cold. Gents - please note that if the door to the shed is closed there will most likely still be someone there, they are closing the door to keep the wind out. Give the door a try when you turn up. And, feel free to come up for the warmth and cuppa before you leave the complex.

May 13th Annual General Meeting.

As mentioned in Erics monthly blurb we are in need of some new leaders.

CHAIRMAN, SECRETARY, TREASURER, COMMITTEE MEMBERS, CLUB CAPTAIN.

These roles are not onerous and past officers are there to help you navigate the roles if you need assistance.

The current executive have done an amazing job given the number of years they have been in these roles and it is time other members step up and do their bit.

Vero National Rally Nelson 15th to 21st March

Five cars and 10 members were the final numbers from our club to attend this rally. A total of 559 cars had registered from a 1903 Darracq through to a 1996 Mazda MX 5 Eunos. Over 1200 people attended. Quite a variety with some outstanding restorations on display. I will put a bit more in next months issue about the rally with some photos.
