Well it’s happened. AGM has been held and a complete changing of the guard has ensued. Please refer to the officers list above. A great turnout of 54 members was a real pleasure to see and it is hoped that when other events are held, that attendance level is closely duplicated. The change to a midday or daylight time frame certainly makes a difference along with the temptation of coffee and cake. Your executive and new events committee has indicated a change to more of these to achieve the higher attendance than our evening meetings. For those who would like to help the events committee, other than those we identified at the AGM please contact Owen Duncan to let him know your willingness. The more we have the lighter the load.

The one thing that was disappointing at the AGM was the lack of women on both our executive and events committees. Ladies if you would like to help and have your say please let me know. Our constitution allows for people to be appointed as necessary to positions and this can easily happen.

The club is in good standing and this is in no small way a testament to the previous executive. To Eric Foley, Elaine Taylor and John Searle I thank you for your excellent stewardship and hope that we can maintain this going forward. To those on committee Maureen Ransley and Andrew Birkbeck thank you. To Maureen, enjoy the time you have now recovered as I know a lot was spent on our club. To Andrew and Twyla Birkbeck we hope you enjoy your new life in the South Island.

To Murray Stanley, thank you for sticking around. Your past knowledge will be greatfully received as we go forward.

Also thank you to Owen Duncan who I have convinced that if he was going to coordinate the events committee that makes him Club Captain. He has agreed to that position. Owen brings a wealth of knowledge having had this position before. Lets all get behind him and assist where we can.

Waikato VCC Double 50 Report.

After a very successful trip down to the International Festival of Historic Motoring in Nelson festival of Motoring, we arrived home very happy that our Model A did all the right things, travelling to Nelson and back without any Road Side Seminars.

Little did we know "Dora" was hiding a little secret that I discovered when we were servicing the car for the upcoming Waikato VCC Double 50 Rally. Inspecting under the car I spotted that the back main spring had broken. When it happened, who knows but I had a job on my hands to get it ready for the Double 50. With the help of the Model A Club I was able to get the Clubs Spring Spreader from Auckland to get it out and rebuild my spring out of another one sent down by a fellow Club member. It was a big job, but we now are back on the road and thanks to Club members, Model A's and Taupo VCC for offering help and guidance.

Now the Waikato VCC Double 50 was a great successful rally for Tony and Pam and Alma and Eileen. Taupo VCC Club members.

The day started with the Big Waikato breakfast at their Clubrooms. Starting at the Clubrooms Approximately 50 cars headed off at 30 second intervals arriving at Morrinsville RSA for our lunch stop. After enjoying our packed lunch, we again headed off travelling back to the VCC Clubrooms. A beautiful day travelling through the farmlands of the Waikato.

This year, with the fuel price sky-rocketing the Waikato Club made the decision to still call the Rally the Double 50, but it has always been 50 miles out and 50 miles back. This year it was decided to only do 50 km out and 50km back, cutting back the overall distance travelled. Smart move Waikato. The evening dinner and prize giving was held at the Resthaven Community Centre.

Thank you Waikato VCC a great Rally and special thanks to the 'Cook Team" for breakfast and dinner of Hugh and Bronya and team. Taupo Team, Tony & Pam, Alma & Eileen.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s ??

Well not really, Breakfast at Lacus is actually what it was. Another great turn out from members. A lot of repeat offenders but this is a great event and if you have never been you should give it a go. The food is great, as is the coffee and pricing is reasonable. There is also the fine company one meets.

Once again a trip out to Lacus for this monthly event. Another great turnout with some repeat offenders and some new ones.

One we haven’t seen in a while. Fiona MacDonald’s wee 1952 Morrie Convertible. Looks like its had a spruce up and looks real nice. Is an 800cc flathead.

ANNUAL BRASS MONKEY RUN

The shortest day of winter saw the Taupo VCC doing their annual Brass Monkey run in and around Taupo, ending up at the Stag Park Diner for a meal with mulled wine to warm us up. Great to see so many hardy souls braving the chilly weather with even a soft top down. The weather stayed fine but driving was sometimes a bit tricky with sun strike being quite bad at times. Many thanks to last year’s winner Neil and Lorraine Chave for putting the run together for us. It was fun and an interesting route.

Congratulations to Owen (and me) for winning. We will be running it next year as our prize! However we do have the coveted trophy to keep polished for a bit

Ladies Day and Parts Shed

Another great turnout for both events. The ladies group is always very productive with the projects they are working on. Some knitting, some making patches for larger quilts. All done while not looking and chatting. Multitasking at its finest.

Great activity at the VCC parts shed today, about 15 members passed through the shed between 10am and 12 noon. Some stayed awhile and chatted about "stuff" while others looked around at parts and some just moseyed on or stayed for a coffee/tea and cakes with the ladies craft club upstairs. An excellent turnout on a chilly day but the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. So if your interested in cars or just a chat, then turn up to our VVC Taupo parts shed get togethers, which are held on the fourth Thursday of each month. All members are very welcome and anybody interested in vintage and classic cars and potentially a future member, just turn up and mingle with our friendly team.

Again the ladies out did themselves with a supply of nibbles when the parts shed is closed at midday.

As always the club is happy to supply tea and coffee for members. However if you use a coffee sachet it would be appreciated if you could make a gold coin donation.

These sachets have been provide by members of the ladies group and it is unfair to see them out of pocket.

If you are looking for bits for your vehicle come down and see us. We have a large range of treasures that are just waiting for you to acquire. We also have an engine lifter and stand for hire.

A passionate secretary or a secretaries passion.

Most of us at some stage have had a hobby (or passion) that has gotten a bit out of hand. Myself, I collect peaked caps. I have around 70 from places I have visited, worked or events I have been to. It would appear our secretary Greg Nattrass has an affliction for little Morries. Here’s his story.

My Morris Minor collection.

After being gifted a large Morris Minor model from Barbara McLoughlin after the passing of Ray (former members of our branch) I had the car sitting here. A while later a friend of mine gave me 3 matchbox size cars, these all sat on top of a cabinet here. Then at one of the local Hobby expo displays I purchased another slightly larger Morris utility. This then has slightly snowballed. I was originally using

a shelf in our china cabinet to display them that got too small, A standalone cabinet was purchased, when it went into service it had 2 shelves, and the floor of it could be used to display. That cabinet had an extra shelf added…. Then a year ago that cabinet was too small. I have since purchased an old office storage cabinet as the collection continues to grow. That I am using 5 of the 6 bays (my partner has commandeered the 6 th bay). Since this one has been in operation I have added 2 glass shelves. So, at the moment I do have spare room for more, but plans are underway to get another glass shelf cut ready for the next expansion. Yes, I am allowed to keep them in the lounge.

The collection is currently in excess of 250, yes there is a few double ups (Teach me to check what I have before buying more) They are from all sorts of locations. I was buying a few out of the UK, but postage got excessive, so now I am a bit more selective. There is a police van in there that I bought of eBay, it came from Italy. At the moment the collection is not growing very fast, but there is still some that come up that I don’t have and if the price is right, they join the collection. As for value of the collection, I would hate to guess what it has cost me and at the end of my time, well who knows what will happen to them.

And now for a Dad Joke

While working at a pizza parlour I observed a man ordering a small pizza to go. He appeared to be alone and the cook asked him if he would like it cut into 4 pieces or 6 oieces. He thought about it for some time and then said. Just cut it into 4 pieces I don’t think I am hungry enough to eat 6 pieces.
