August 2026 Very sincere condolences to Ian McDonald and family on the passing of our friend and member Wilma. 59 years of marriage has been full of many happenings for this busy family. Wilma has been a dedicated member of the Club participating in events and Rallies not only in South Otago but joining in with Club events around the country. Wilma also helped with the organising of Motorcycle and Clutha Rally with Ian on several occasions, a willing helper in the kitchen always greeting visitors in her friendly way. Wilma loved jigsaw puzzles and always made a person feel welcome when visiting their home. A life well lived indeed. 5 August Wednesday Run Report from Shelia & Jay Paterson. Three cars 9 people travelled around the farming districts of Moneymore, Lovell’s Flat, Kaitangata and enjoyed afternoon tea at the Heart & Soul Cafe in Baclutha. Turned out to be a nice sunny afternoon and roads were all good with no dust. A very big thankyou to those who have supplied their email addresses for newsletters. This is much appreciated. Jay Paterson has agreed to continue on the Committee. Clutha Rally was discussed and a committee meeting was set for 4th August. Several changes discussed for this year’s event on 14th November. Look for information as it comes to hand. A wee verse I found in an autograph book from 1906 “Why Not Smile” “The thing that goes the farthest toward making life worthwhile, That costs the least, and does the most, is just a pleasant smile. The smile that bubbles from a heart that loves it fellow-men Will drive away the cloud of gloom and coax the sun again. Paul and Kaye McNabb have organised the next Wednesday run, which will be held on the 2nd of September, on wet or fine.
Leave the clubrooms at 1pm for a leisurely drive to Owaka. All to meet at the Owaka museum at 1.30pm for a look at the exhibits and displays. There have been a few recent changes made. The museum entry fee will be either $7 or $8 per person. Yet to be confirmed. At about 2.30pm, the antiques shop at 5 Sanders Street will be open for us to check out their offerings, and the book shop on the other side of the road will also be open for us to browse and maybe find something of interest. Around 3pm, we adjourn to the Owaka cafe on the main road for refreshments and a chat. Their fire should be going. Make your own way home. Please support these runs, as attendances have been declining. Mark them on your calendars!
Pot Luck Tea and Quiz evening – 6 p.m. Gary and Sue have organised a social evening for members and friends to come along and enjoy. It would be wonderful if we could see some who have not been to the Club for some time. Nothing too serious involved – a casual gettogether evening. Bring along some food to share and enjoy the night.
