Daylight saving ended with Easter, the days are certainly cooler, hopefully the lawn mowing can lessen now. Time to enjoy a good book – your Beaded Wheels of course, some television perhaps or tinkering in the workshop.
I attended over Easter the South Otago High School Centennial Celebrations. Fond memories of school days when life seemed so much easier. Bill Cross and Jim Beeby were there also, taking part in the cake cutting and sharing memories of early High School Days. Students of today certainly have a great facility for learning and hopefully appreciate the many opportunities afforded them.
9 members attended the March meeting, good to have Gary back after his knee surgery and Sue is taking care of things as usual.
The Club acknowledges the passing of Shirley Thomson who has supported Malcolm over many years and taken part in rallies, events and social occasions. Our sympathy goes to the family.
We remember with appreciation also Beverley Sell who has recently passed. She supported the Club over many years along with Phil. Her help with catering for Rallies, kitchen duties and always willing to give a hand were much appreciated.
Paul McNabb reported that he and Kaye have been to the South Canterbury Swap Meet – they had a good day and came home with some treasures
Several members took part in the Gore Rally with a lovely hot day enjoyed.
Jan & John Cook took part in the Vero International Rally based in Nelson. They travelled in their Riley.
John told of some trouble with the water pump but managed to complete Rally and return home travelling 3,000 miles.
An application has been received for membership for Stan Leishman. This was passed and we look forward to welcoming Stan along when time allows him to join in.
A Health and Safety reminder - At the meeting Ian McDonald shared an
article he had been reading from a Beaded Wheels magazine from August / September 2022 titled Tricks of the Trade. Page 19. It reads of a chap who was in the workshop using a belt grinder smoothing an edge of a hacksaw cut on a length of steel angle iron. After about 2 minutes there was a loud thump, then a brilliant fireball lasting just a second before extinguishing itself, he sustained second degree burns. Previous to this event the mans son had several days earlier ground off the heads of some aluminium pop rivets. The combination of the steel and aluminium grounds caused thermite which is explosive. A reminder to all to be cautious when in the workshop and clean up properly between jobs.

Gary has reminded us that the Annual General Meeting is approaching quickly and positions will need to be filled to keep the Club in good heart.
Wednesday Run 6 May Meet at the Clubrooms at 1.30 p.m.
Destination to be discussed at the meeting as there has been nothing decided at this stage.
