Well I’m coming back down to earth after the Vero - I have to thank everybody for their contributions to an awesome event. Of course there is aways the after event wash up to pay the bills and tie up all the loose ends.
Fortunately for me, I have been exceptionally lucky to have an organising committee you only dream of having. They have made so many mountains climbable and are still there helping me clean up - Thanks every one of you.
Back in the branch we have our swap meet coming up soon, with AGMs and Daffy Day events not too far away.
Speaking of Daffy day , check out the page 28 - The Public of Nelson blew us away with their patronage of the Public display day and as a result we were able to return some of the gate takings to the local branch of the Cancer Society.

Chairperson Report
It doesn’t feel that long since my last report, so this will be a shorter update, but there are still a few things worth sharing.
There has been plenty of positive feedback from people around the country following the very successful Vero International Festival of Motor Racing.
Events of this scale are years in the planning, and just as much effort goes in after the event as everything is wrapped up and finalized. Congratulations to Ray and his committee for delivering such a wellrun occasion. It has created a real buzz, not just within our club but right across from the local community as well, with strong interest from both members and non-members. I’m sure it will be talked about for a long time to come.
Closer to home, Mike, our Vice Chair, has been kept busy with the Murchison 150th celebrations. These milestone community events take a great deal of organisation, and it’s fantastic to see our club involved and supporting them. A number of our members took part in the street parade, proudly displaying their vehicles, which always draws interest and appreciation from the public. It’s a great way to showcase our cars, connect with the community, and promote what our club is all about.
Looking ahead, our annual Swap Meet on 9th May is now only a few weeks away. This is our major fundraiser for the year, and its success relies on the support of our members. A big thank you to Kit Brydon for leading the organisation. We really do need as many people as possible to get involved, whether that means helping with setup, lending a hand on the day, or simply coming along to support the event. If you’re available, please get in touch with Kit Brydon or a committee member.
Our AGM is coming up on 27th June, so it’s time to start thinking about nominations. I know you’re all lining up to take a place on the committee! On a more serious note, the club relies on the support of
its members, and it’s always great to see new faces bringing fresh ideas and energy. Being part of the committee is a rewarding way to contribute, and you’ll be well supported, so if you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now is a great time to put your name forward.
The Coast to Coast tour is on again this coming November, and the response this year has been nothing short of outstanding. Entries opened on Saturday 18th at 12 noon and the tour was fully booked within just seven hours, a fantastic result. We have entrants joining us from all around the country, which really highlights the strong nationwide support this event continues to enjoy. A significant waitlist is already in place in case of cancellations, further reflecting the level of interest. If you are unable to attend this AGM
i) You may appoint a proxy, and the Secretary must receive this in writing, (either email or letter), no later than 2 days before this Meeting.
ii) The proxy must be a financial member of the Nelson Branch.
iii) Nominations for Office Positions and Branch Committee may be received by the Secretary 10 days before the AGM. Nominations can also be called from the floor of the AGM.
iv) The Consent Form for the Office Positions or Committee Members must be completed with the Nomination Form. These will be available at the Club Rooms on the table.

AHUGE THANK YOU to our VCC Members!
Easter and Murchison’s 150th Birthday celebrations have come and gone, and what a wonderful weekend it was! A large number of old identities returned to the town and several family and school reunions took place over the weekend.
From the Mix N Mingle on the Friday, through film and light shows, Saturday’s awesome Parade, Sports activities and market stalls to the Celebration Dinner in the evening, there was something for everyone! First up on Sunday was a Remembrance service at the cemetery, followed by a teams challenge all culminating in the awards and presentations on the Sunday afternoon!
Saturday’s Parade of floats, decorated bikes/scooters and kids, was followed by over 30 historic vehicles many of which our VCC members arrived with! THANK YOU! Dignitaries were carried in two of our vehicles, Trevor and Colleen’s Rover carried 95 year old Allison Oxnam, who officially cut the 150th birthday cake and Rex Smith’s 28 Essex carried the weekend’s official guest, Murchison born, Annette King and her two sisters. Jim Fry [Motueka] brought down the Mitchell, once owned in our Branch.
Other vehicles important to the towns history, included the 1920’s International wrecker [Higgins Park] and the similarly aged McCaa Transport truck loaned from Founders Park, for the occasion. Both these old girls had been around with the formation of Transport Nelson Ltd in 1938 and served the later TNL Depot in the town!
The Richmond fire trust also brought down their 1938 Ford V8 unit, the ‘almost’ sister of the one we hold in trust, as they both served together at Collingwood in the 1970s when together they attended that town’s big fire which destroyed much of the town! This old machine added a bit of spice to the Parade when she ‘conked out’ [fortunately not on her way to a fire] and the local brigade turned out in their gear to push the engine around the show grounds!
A huge THANK YOU to Stephen Caunter [International truck and our Announcer], Trevor and Colleen Carsten, Kit Brydon, Geoff Clark, Geoff Roberts, Malcolm Baker, John and Rosie Herd, Rex Smith, Les Thomlinson and myself, for turning out a great variety of Parade and display vehicles. [hopefully I haven’t missed anyone] Again THANK YOU! Our friends from Reefton, who helped me with last year’s Biennial, Rally organizing, Zoe and Bruce, also arrived in their A35, to represent the West Coast Br, THANK YOU!

Club Captains Report
Well Autumn is well and truly here, the autumn colours are just amazing, it really is a beautiful time of the year.
Our morning tea numbers have been down on previous morning teas but there have been many people away, school holidays, warbirds over Wanaka, illness & catching up with family and friends after our Vero month of March. It is always great to see everyone who comes along.
The rising price of fuel and the war in Iran hasn’t made club runs any easier to sort, so we are travelling closer to home until we know what is going to happen out in the big wide world. The run to Queen Charlotte Tavern, Linkwater, has been put on hold and we will go to the Apple Harvest festival at Willow Bank just out of Wakefield instead. We still have some fun events to look forward to, so don’t cover up your beautiful vehicles or put them away for winter but come and join us. The more the merrier.
APRIL
Wed 1ST Morning tea, mystery lunch. We had 39 at morning tea and were well spoilt for food with Easter eggs, hot cross buns, savouries and cake. A huge Thank you as always to all the wonderful people in the kitchen. After all that food, we still had 11 come along to the Grape Escape for our mystery lunch.
Thurs 9th Club Night was a Quiz night. There were 13 of us broken down to three teams of four & the challenge was on. An enjoyable evening was had by those who came along.
Wed 15th Morning Tea followed by our mystery car. Thank you Lesley, John & Karen Grey for all the work in the kitchen. Wayne Price who normally keeps everything ticking along making sure we have milk, tea, coffee and biscuits, has been struggling with a pinched nerve in his back so hopefully we will see his smiling face amongst us soon.
Our mystery car was brought in by Trevor Carston and was another rare beauty under restoration. This was a 1910 Alldays & Onions first registered in 1912 with the registration number WM7. Such an interesting history to this car that is the oldest car in Nelson which was
Nelson new. The first owner was Tom Hunt who owned the car from new, then George Topless before Trevor and Colleen purchased it in August 2022. Thank you for sharing this treasure as it is a very important part of Nelsons motoring history.

Sun 19th Club run is to Willow Bank Heritage Village to partake in their Apple Harvest day. There will be a dedicated area to park when we arrive. Entry is $7 pp & tea and scones are available to purchase there, as well as some hot food, otherwise pack your own lunch or buy something delicious from the Wakefield Bakery. I have not put in a mystery lunch or mystery vehicle for May or June at this stage as we hope to have a lunch at Appleby school ( pack your own school lunch ) This school didn’t have many cars call in during the Vero Rally so we need to rectify this with a school visit from
our club. We will confirm this visit when we have a day and time that suits the school.
Our AGM is coming up the end of June so you have a couple of months to think about coming onto the committee or enter your car for Pride of Ownership or Restoration of the year so come along. We have around 300 members so a good turnout would be excellent.

Iam looking for an original "4-position and Off" switch (see 2 X attached photos) to purchase for the dash in my 27 Erskinewithout success so far.
It doesn't matter if the switch mechanism is faulty because that might be either repairable or replaceable with a new / after market rotary switch.
The main thing to have is the original face plate and switch handle.
I'm also looking for an original "Hearshey" combination steering column lock and ignition switch assembly with original key in working condition (see photo) to purchase

The car has a unique history, as it was my husband’s grandfather’s first car and was even converted to run on coal during WWII.
It has been stored in our garage for many years with the intention of a restoration, but we have realized that this project is no longer realistic for us with a young family.
