Just a quick reminder to get your entries for the Restoration of the year and Pride of Ownership to John Barker so he can Co-ordinate this event.
Like wise consider putting your name forward for the branch committee and or any of the management positions.
Under our constitution we can have up to 8 committee members over and above the management positions.
A good cross section of interests is a good way of strengthening the branch not to mention you can have a real fun time in doing so.
The success of the Vero has already brought at least 10 new members into the branch and others considering joining -it is a great time to be involved

Chairperson’s Report
As we head toward the end of another club year, it is worth taking a moment to appreciate what makes our branch special. Yes, we are brought together by old vehicles, oily hands, and the occasional spirited discussion about the “proper” way to do things, but the real heart of this club has always been its people.
Nominations are now officially open for committee positions ahead of our AGM at the end of June. Clubs like ours stay strong because members are willing to step forward, get involved, and help shape the future of the branch.
For some members, the thought of joining the committee probably ranks somewhere between trying to work out where that mysterious oil leak is coming from, deciding whether that new rattling sound is “probably nothing,” and attempting to diagnose a seventy-year-old electrical problem armed only with optimism and a torch with flat batteries. But the reality is far less terrifying.
The truth is, this club has survived and grown over many years because people before us were willing to step forward, lend a hand, share their knowledge, and occasionally volunteer before fully thinking it through.
To those who have served on committees over the years, thank you. Many of you have already “done your turn,” and probably several extra turns besides. The experience, wisdom, stories, and practical knowledge you bring are part of what gives this club its character. We still need that experience alongside fresh ideas and new enthusiasm. The best clubs are built when both work together.
And for those members quietly thinking, “Maybe it’s time I helped out,” this could be the perfect year to put your name forward. You do not need to know everything, own the perfect vehicle, or have years of experience behind you. A willingness to help and be involved is far more important.
Not everyone needs to join the main committee either. Subcommittees, rally organisation, working bees, grounds and building projects, helping at events, or simply lending a hand where needed are all valuable ways to contribute. Many hands make light work, especially when someone remembers where the extension cord was put “somewhere safe” last year.
This club is more than just a collection of vehicles. It is friendship, shared history, knowledge passed from one generation to the next, and the enjoyment of keeping these wonderful old machines on the road for others to see and enjoy.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed over the past year, whether publicly or quietly behind the scenes. You are what keeps this branch alive and thriving.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the AGM at the end of June and to another year of friendship, motoring, and adventure together.

If you are unable to attend this AGM
i) You may appoint a proxy, and the Secretary must receive this in writing, (either email or letter), no later than 2 days before this Meeting.
ii) The proxy must be a financial member of the Nelson Branch.
iii) Nominations for Office Positions and Branch Committee may be received by the Secretary 10 days before the AGM. Nominations can also be called from the floor of the AGM.
iv) Nomination Forms are available at the Clubrooms, on the table. Alternatively, forms could be emailed to you in an attachment. Any nominated person not attending the AGM should also fill in the consent form. Also available from the table
Any person elected at the AGM is required to complete a Consent form at the end of the meeting. This is an Incorporated Societies Act Requirement.

Club Captains Report
It has been a busy month with the swap meet, club night, morning teas, working bees, mystery vehicle and a ‘Funkana’ that will be over by the time you read this. These activities only occur with the support of club members, so Thank you to all who have come along to any activities at our club.
Next month is looking equally busy and we have our AGM, Restoration of the Year and Pride of ownership coming up near the end of June. Come along and have your say or fill out a nomination form and join the committee.
MAY Wed 6 Morning tea followed by a Working Bee
We had a great attendance here this morning with over 50 members enjoying a cuppa and a natter.
Thank You to Lesley, Jill, Dianne, Glenda and Wayne for doing the duties in the kitchen. After morning tea we had 24 stay on to dead head the Agapanthus behind the Club house and make a start on setting up for Saturdays Swap meet. Darcy Bovey and Barry Fickling cooked the sausages which we enjoyed with bread and sauce, savouries and cake and laughter.
Sat 9 Swap Meet
After a very wet Friday, it was great to see the sun struggle out and the rain stop for Saturday. There were a few sellers who didn’t make it to Swap meet due to road closures ( Marlborough and the West Coast ) but all things considered the day went well and we came out with a profit. Great work everyone and a Huge Thank You to Kit Brydon for organising this event.
Thur 14 Club Night Wot’s It
This is the second time we have held this event and again we had a real mix of unknown interesting items. We had 32 come along and again it proved a good evening.
Wed 20 Morning Tea, Mystery Vehicle
This morning we had our largest attendance yet with 62 people filling the club house with lots of chatter and laughter. We were also spoilt with fresh scones, jam and cream from the Barkers for Johns birthday, Savouries from Bevan Patterson for his birthday and afghans from Karen Grey just because she could. This was followed by the unveiling after unsuccessful guesses of our mystery vehicle, Paul and Luke Ewing ( Lloyd and Gwens son and grandson ) brought along their amazing Locomotive project. It took the lads 3 months to build it and what a beauty this beast is. It not only looks great but also acts a slow cooker with a huge cooking area that I’m sure could hold a sheep or two. Where ever “The Beast” as Lloyd called it, goes, it will draw a crowd and we thoroughly enjoyed seeing it today. It was hard to pull away from the Locomotive to attack the trailer in the court yard with still plenty of leftovers on it from the swap meet. Great to see some of it heading out the door but still leftovers that need to be gone so that Paul and Dianne can get their trailer back and head away to The Irishmans Rally Kings birthday weekend.

A quick shout out to one of our clubs long-time supporters, RMB, you know Richardson Motor Bodies, their work shop is a little tricky to find at 42c Quarantine road.
Why?, the building hasn’t moved, persons with a higher education than one’s self decided an upgrade was required and put in a new street, allocating 2/3 Boxman Place, Annesbrook to this location of magic and wizardry.
A quick squiz at google maps before you set out on your journey is recommended and alleviates the need for a cut lunch and compass.
Glenn, a fellow with legendary talents can be found toiling within and with a smile inquires how he can assist. “Well here’s the thing, word on the street is you can make old stuff look new again”, as I lift the lid on my challenge, a few special bolts and precious nuts that have seen more than a couple of years’ service.
Glenn shares his procedures in detail offering an option of colour finish from the final bath in his secret potion. We go for gold, although a deviation from original, the nuts will definitely benefit from this upgrade once tightened into position, after all a little bling gets attention & helps focus the eye

Here’s a thought, if you happen to be lying on your back and notice some nuts that have aged and would benefit from some attention, give them a good going over on the wire wheel and visit Glenn for zinc electroplating. Just one of his many talents which include repairs to caravans & campervans along with new panel fabrication of those rusty bits that need replacing. Did I mention Glenn is a wizard when it comes to Zinc Electroplating of most things metal, not to mention those special hard to replace nuts and bolts?

Signing Out, Thoughts and Message
What a pleasure it's been to be at the 'chalkface' of our great Branch for the last 10 or 11 years.
I've lost count of the exact service, but having just popped back from overseas to take my Fiat in the 2012 Wanganui Rally, I had the privilege of meeting a great gang of Nelson members whilst we were journeying up the River on the Waimaree! Returning to Nelson in early 2014, after a relieving stint in Queenstown, my arm was twisted to take on the Secretary role, which I did for about 5 years first with Kevin, then Jim and later Trevor, until retiring to Murchison early in 2020. I stayed on the Committee for a couple of years before again having my other arm twisted to step into your Chairman's role, following Trevor's retirement, back in 2022. Our Constitution allows for the 'top job' to be occupied by the same person for 4 years, but as we seem to often be rolling over after 3 years, I happily passed the baton to Joanne, last year. Since then I have remained as your Immediate Past Chairperson, but I now move aside as a Deputy needs to be found to assist and carry on after Joanne retires, a couple of years in our future!
Your Committee and Sub committees during all my time here, have been extremely hard working, and Nelson Branch has been foremost amongst the 36 Branches Nationally, in doing 'our bit' for the overall success of the VCC. Under my watch, we hosted the Nat AGM in 2023, the Sth Island Easter Rally and successfully bid to host the recent IFHM!
Your Committee consists of individuals with different interests and strengths, and although, on occasion, we have had some robust discussions going forward, we have had no 'fisticuffs, blowups or walkouts! Everyone continues to use the same songbook and sing from the same page as we have continued to move your Branch forward collectively, with the best interests of our 300 plus members in mind!
Now it is the turn of others to slot into your Committee and bring new strengths, ideas and events to give us new direction and variety in our activities.
Please consider what you can do to help in the Management of your Branch or join a sub committee to set up an activity!
You will only get back what you put in, and take it from me, other Committee members and your past Chairmen, it is a very rewarding and fun filled experience.

1920s Morris Cowley
The car has a unique history, as it was my husband’s grandfather’s first car and was even converted to run on coal during WWII.
It has been stored in our garage for many years with the intention of a restoration, but we have realized that this project is no longer realistic for us with a young family.
