26th MAY CLUB RUN Colin is organising a run to Ikamatua, to check out a private garage and collection followed by lunch at the local pub. Those who have been before will know that it is a quality lunch. He will be sending out details shortly and will need numbers for catering purposes. BRANCH AGM -9th JUNE At the Kumara Junction Café, gather from 11.00am for the meeting start at 11.30am. A roast meal plus dessert follows the meeting for $30 per head. I hope that you all read last month’s newsletter and realised that some of our Committee members are ready to hand over the reins, new and fresh ideas keep the Club interesting. After all, we own old cars and it would be sad to see them sitting in the garage for months on end because there is no need to take them out, we need the Club to give them a purpose. Not to mention the fellowship. The Committee has decided to subsidise the cost of the meal by 50% which means the cost will now be $15 per person. It has also been decided to hold a Club Forum, this will enable members to question the Committee on various aspects of our Branch and also to present any ideas that may be out there for our future. This will be the last newsletter before the AGM therefore Colin will also be requiring numbers this month for catering purposes, you will be contacted by your ringer but if you are missed, please ring Colin or us [David and June], phone numbers above to book in. We cannot expect the café to cater for people who arrive without having booked in. NATIONAL AGM – 16/17 AUGUST As mentioned in the last newsletter, we are hosting the National AGM in Greymouth. We will be looking for helpers in the way of transporting people to and from Hokitika Airport and also the Greymouth Railway Station on the 16th and 18th. Also on the afternoon of the 17th we will require helpers
to ferry people to and from Shantytown where non delegates will be visiting. If we don’t get volunteers, shoulders will have to be tapped. EVENTS ELSEWHERE I have received notice of the Snow Run at St Arnaud on 14th July, this year to be hosted by Marlborough Branch. Could those who are interested in attending, please ring me (768 4226) as there is a change in the payment procedure and payment has to be made directly to the Branch before the weekend. I would need to contact them to arrange payment from here.
Easter Rally at Ashburton Elaine and Pat Knowles have sent in a report on the recent Easter Rally which they attended at Shantytown. A smaller contingent than planned took off for the Ashburton Easter Rally on Good Friday morning. Elaine and Colin Peacock, travelling in their Rover, joined up with Elaine and Pat Knowles in their Consul. The weather was great, but traffic was heavy, particularly from east to west. After a lunch stop in the Springfield Park, we travelled via SH 72 and 77, beautiful scenery and quiet roads. We travelled through Methven which took us to Rally Headquarters at the Ashburton Racecourse. A cup of tea/coffee and biscuits/hot cross buns were provided as we collected our Rally Packs and caught up with Nelson friends. Barry and Margie Wilson from Blenheim, travelling in their 1929 Rover, made up the last of the "local" contingent, also Elaine and Colin's family from Rangiora joined us for part of the weekend. Around 172 vehicles met on Saturday morning at the Racecourse for the rally briefing. Interesting to note - there were only 15 Veteran vehicles and 15 Vintage vehicles, I guess a sign of the times. The day dawned very cold but the sun came out and improved as the day went on. The rally consisted of long, straight roads through dairy farming country, and we all converged at the lunch stop at the Methven School domain. This was a great opportunity to view all the cars and meet up with so many familiar faces. The afternoon route took us on different roads (still long and straight!) and included visits to a Historic Village, Tractor Collection and the local Rolls Royce and Bentley garage. This last stop was the most popular and the vehicles displayed and the workshop were immaculate. The meal at the Racecourse that evening was good value for our $16 per person, and the entertainment was "It’s in the Boot", run on the lines of Selwyn Toogood's show In the Bag. Around 400 were at the meal, and it was an enjoyable evening. The weather packed up during Saturday night/Sunday morning, and was very cold and wet for the Public Display, Field Trials and Concours. The Field Trials were cancelled, to protect the racecourse, and they managed to get most of the Concours entries under cover. Elaine and Colin took off mid-morning for Christchurch as planned, as did Elaine and Pat who decided to head home to catch up with the visiting family. The drive back to Greymouth was wet, foggy and cold, until we hit Otira, and then the sun came out! Barry and Margie Wilson stayed for the Sunday night dinner, said that it was a very good meal and evening.

NAME BADGES – Also, please contact David Campbell if you would like a name badge. The Branch supplies your first one.
VIC FORMS - A reminder to all members who have VIC cards that are due to expire, you will receive a personalised RENEWAL FORM from the National Office at least three months before the due date. You cannot download a form off the internet. They are personalised for each individual vehicle. Please fill in and hand to Branch Secretary. Please note that new applications can be downloaded from the website or contact the Branch Secretary. If you wish to participate in any National VCC Event, you need to have a Vehicle Identification Certificate, don’t leave it until the last minute as it takes some time for the processing of paperwork. VERO INSURANCE - If you take your Insurance out with VERO they will then pay the Branch a small Commission which helps with Branch finances. Please note that when applying for Insurance cover with VERO you must quote the Branch number which is 36 plus your membership number. Also you are reminded that this scheme is set up for financial members only.
