This is a social meet and greet group enabling the ladies to get to know each other.

The BOPVCCC are looking for a member to join our crew of Vehicle Identification Officers. The position involves the checking of the vehicle and engine identification plates as indicated In the VIC/Domas application forms together with confirming any relevant body/mechanical aspects, on behalf of the registrar VCCNZ, which may assist in obtaining the VIC/Domas. Although mechanical knowledge is an advantage, it is not a requirement as training is given. If you enjoy meeting people and think this is you, please contact any committee member for more information on this position.
There are two position available to be filled at this months AGM
A position has become available for a person to join the BOPVCCC on the committee.
The new Incorporated Societies Act 2022 requires all potential committee member to sign the consent form giving contact details which is then registered on the incorporated website & to make a declaration ensuring they meet all the requirements set out in section 47 of the Act e.g. not an undischarged bankrupt, convicted of a laundering offence etc. etc. See ‘Consent and Certificate of Officer Forms.
Members can be nominated from the floor at the AGM or be co-opted but will still be required to meet the criteria of the Act & sign the consent.
The second position is that of Club Captain which will become vacant at the AGM. This position would suit a member who has an interest in collating future runs and rallies. Don’t be shy, put your hand up! All help given to the successful candidate.
23rd August will see the return of the annual Daffodil Rally and Car Show.
Our Kaaren Smylie has been running around the country side organising the upcoming national event. Member and club treasurer Kieth Perkins has become the national poster boy for this fundraising event. A sub committee has been allocated and posters and lists are being drawn up. Please support this worthy cause for the Cancer Society.
!st November will again see our BOPVCCC Car Show, Swap Meet and Restoration Awards taking place. The committee is hard out organising all things necessary to run this, our main fundraising event of the year, but will need input from you, the members, to assist the running of this event.
This years event will include a visit from the Hawkes Bay VCC Branch of at least 25 vehicles

Don’t be shy in putting your hands up when requested for help. Head man will again be Bruce Tait.
Our Chairman Donn White has again secured our Christmas Lunch venue at the Okoroire Hotel, Okoroire for 5th December 2026.
Last years Christmas reception there was fantastic with a full contingent of members celebrating with a delicious Christmas buffet.

Despite a few showers, 29 members with 17 cars arrived for the Althorp Village Run and lunch, much to Elwyns relief.
Amongst the Minis, Ford Model A’s, The odd dodge , Galaxies, Chevs and various other models, there was a Citroen ?Light 15. The village people came out and inspected the cars and then we all went inside for a very nice fish & chip lunch complete with a yummy pudding. A very enjoyable day.

What an amazing May Club night we had starting with Donn White’s photos and story of the damage inflicted by the tornado that passed across the Tauranga estuary affecting several of our members homes.
The force of the tornado certainly came to light with the photos of the aftermath and the first hand experience that Donn had. We wish all the members a speedy resolution with the repairs to their homes and we are relieved that nobody was hurt.
Donn White’s next presentation was of the 2026 DINZ National Drift Championship Race at Bay Park Arena and included a TV1 sport clip plus photos of the Trophy presentation.
The winner and trophy receiver was non other than Tauranga’s Dave Steedman (Team DSR) who had presented his car at a club night a few years ago. Congratulations Dave, a wonderful achievement.
Last, but not in at all the least, was a presentation by guest speaker and speed enthusiast Trevor Parker, a presentation that had us glued to our seats. (This gentleman I would say is around our age brackets)
Trevor displayed at the clubrooms, the KIA Stinger Twin Turbo V6 that he used as an entry into the annual speed trials on Goudies Road, Kaingaroa Forest. 21st March 2026. (Look up this amazing car online)
Goudies Road was resealed in March 2023 and for this years speed trial was swept clear of debris and closed for the event with the appropriate timing equipment being set up on the measured 1/4 mile distance. An additional lead-up for acceleration of over 2.5kms together with a slowing down strip of 2.5kms was also provided.
The Stinger’s 3.3ltr V6 twin turbo engine drives the rear wheels through an eight speed auto transmission and Trevor set about modifying the on board computer to exceed its speed parameters which was completed just before the event. A problem then became apparent when the transmission shut down due too much power being presented. This problem was also rectified just before the event, nail biting scenarios!
The tubeless tyres had to be appropriately speed rated and include wire valves because of plastic valves melting due to heat build-up.
Appropriate race suits and helmets etc had to be worn, but as Trevor said, if there had been a crash at that speed, the air bags would probably have been of no use!
The dash cam video from Trevor’s car during his attempt, culminating in an average two way speed of 278km/h, showed the vibration encountered from the road surface plus, if you were quick enough, a bird hitting the front of the car resulting in a large dent from the impact.
The speed that Trevor attained was below his desired target of 322km/h due to limiting from the on-board computer and will work on resetting that for his next attempt at the speed record.
As an addition, we also got to see the dash cam video from the Turbo Suzuki Hayabusa bike travelling at an average of 380km/h, the outright road speed record at this event held by Patric Nussbaum,. Jaw dropping stuff!!!

A beautiful winter feeling day saw approximately 16 cars ( 6 vintage and the rest classics) venture into the Te Puna Minden hills. The sun warmed those brave souls running around topless… I mean without tops on... I mean without roofs ;-)
The questions weren’t too cryptic the hardest counting the cones entering Omokoroa just joking. We had a morning tea pitstop at Te Puna Quarry then continued our country jaunt onto the Village Green Bar & Café at Omokoroa.
Pizzas and a few beers later … and we concluded our outing with Elwyns little prize giving for answering the clues.
Thanks Elwyn & Pauline …. We enjoyed the run.

The ladies get together was again well attended with 17 ladies arriving, sharing a very pleasant mornings conversation. The food was good and with plants and clothing to browse, guys, never tell your partner not to purchase a plant as they may well purchase something “slightly” more expensive off the clothing rack!!!!!!! The raffle was won by Lynn Howard. The next Ladies Get Together is at the club rooms Thursday 18th June at 10.30am. All Ladies associated with the BOPVCCC do come along and meet up with a very friendly group.
Lynn and I turned up in the 29 Dodge DA early to the designated parking area, on a cloudy day, to what we thought would be a low key event due to the weather and were totally blown away by the sheer number of vehicles that had already arrived. We managed to squeeze into a spot next to the live music stand and set about assisting our parking wardens attempting to organise the long line of vehicles that were still queuing on the road.
Everyone eventually managed to get a parking spot and the area filled with the public eager to inspect the cars.
I did a count up but gave up after reaching eighty entries (there were more parked on the road) and started taking photos instead. Along with the cars from the BOPVCCC there were the cars from the Mini Owners Club and a number of vintage and classic cars I had not seen before.
Lynn and I met up with some other members and walked to a local cafe for a well earned coffee and cake.
The show was from 10am till 2pm. About 3pm we had a clear path to exit and headed home.
The show was well patronised by the public and judging by their smiles, a great day was had by all.
Many thanks to Chairman Donn White for the effort put into organising this event with the Mount Mainstreet Group. Oh.. And thanks to the weather gods for keeping us dry.
A definite pat on the back to everyone that came along and helped. Ed.
What a great friendly evening was had by all that came along to the May Nog n Natter at Tga. Citz. Club. 25 members turned up for a great feed at a very reasonable cost and enjoyed the get together solving problems, I am sure, of all the major concerns of the world, such as how can I get out of the car without squeaking….. June N&N is at the Rain Bar Papamoa, do come along and enjoy another great evening.

There are a few changes going on with the portfolio holders in the club. Kaaren Smylie has taken up the role as VCCNZ National Daffodil Day Rally Organiser, a very demanding position and has stepped away from being Club Captain. In the interim, Elwyn Pirie has taken up the role. After many years, Ron Elton has decided to ‘pass on’ his portfolio as BOPVCCC VIC Officer. The club and I am sure all the past VIC applicants he dealt with, are very grateful for his input over that time span. Your chance, members, to step into what can be very rewarding roles, don’t be shy.
The club outings (rallies) are always a nail biting thing to set up but are so rewarding when you see so many members turning up and participating in your event. If you have any suggestions and would like to set up a rally, then chat to any committee member. Your input will be gratefully received.

Travelling over 6,000 kms from Whangarei to Invercargill, this girl is certainly putting in the effort!
May Friday movie night was an absolute doozy with 38 members turning up for the BYO dinner and showing of ‘A Sicilian Dream’ the story about the original Targa Floria Race in Italy. The race featured cars from the vey early veteran era. I am not sure if it was the DVD, the lure of the ice creams (which were stretched way beyond their limit) or my personality of a snail, but the room was buzzing! One comment I heard was that with the amount of members on deck, the AGM could have been done and dusted.
If you have not been to a movie night before, then come along to the June evening. DVD to be Buzzed later.

In spite of the weather and the public holidays interfering with the months planning, the Althorp Village run, the Quizzas & Pizzas run and what became our end of month run
“The Mount Mainstreet Car Show” all turned out to be fantastic get togethers.
The June month will again start with a public holiday (Kings Birthday Weekend) but fingers crossed the sun will shine on us for another great months program.
Come along to as many events as possible and enjoy your club.
