From the Chairperson Chairman’s Chatter Hello Folks.
In our Branch Chairs absence, Colin suggested I cover his slot in this month’s Topical Torque, he is attending the Vintage Rally in the South Island with the Dodge Coupe and Pat as co-pilot, along with Kevin and Christine Fabish motoring one of their Essex collection, (I wonder who will be leading who astray) and the Butchart’s from Hawera motoring in their Nash. As I write this, Colin has maintained contact from the south. The Vintage Rally over two days covered considerable distances in a touring mode with no competitive sections. On the return trip home, a trip through the Molesworth Station will be on the agenda. The annual Maunga Moana Rally is over for another year and by all accounts a great success with the added bonus of a grand autumn day. Although the total entry was down just topping 30, the rally route took in rural areas of central and eastern Taranaki, tunnels included. Midday stop at Makahu Hall for lunch. For the entrants who subscribed the Makahu folk put on a country style lunch which drew very favourable comment. Thanks to John and Meg Muter as organisers of the event, they did a splendid job, top marks. Results are included elsewhere in this newsletter. Mike Hodgkinson has continued his re-write
Having Fun on the way to Murchison of the Branch Constitution with the draft now in the Dodge. Colin and Patrick on ready for ratification by the members of our their adventure in the South Island branch. The draft consumed considerable
committee time, followed by an assessment by the National Secretary/Treasurer who suggested a small addition, but with almost no alterations required.
The annual general meeting of the branch is not far away so give some thought to the committee positions. Meantime keep the old wheels turning.

MAUNGA MOANA RALLY 2021
I would like to thank all the members that helped with the organisation of the Rally last month. Rob did a fantastic job as Treasurer/Secretary as did Colin checking the routes and timing. Also the members acting as marshal’s made the Rally run smoothly, without any problems. The morning section started at Inglewood heading for Kaimata, TePoro, Kiore and finally through the tunnel to Makahu for a delicious lunch, catered by the local hall committee. The afternoon section returned via the Makahu and Kiore tunnels to Matau and Purangi finishing up on S H 3 at Wakara and finally through to the finish at the Plymouth International Hotel. With fine weather and no breakdowns, it turned out to be a pleasant event. Many thanks to all the members that entered, I hope you all enjoyed John. your day. Editors Report Hi everyone. It looks like the end of the summer weather is here. Time to get the
firewood organised and prepare for winter, it has to be better than last one, Covid wise at least. You will see in this Mag, the notice for next months A G M. You will also see that a motion will be put to the meeting to ratify the updated Branch constitution that Mike Hodgkinson and committee have been working on over the last few months. Most of you will have received an electronic version already, but there will be printed copies available if you wish. Please give some thought to the committee positions up for re-election, we sorely need a Club Captain, you will also find nomination forms at the back of this Mag. You will also see that our Morrie Minor friends are holding a monumental tour around the New Plymouth area on Anzac Day, you are invited to join in on what promises to be a very interesting afternoon. ANZAC DAY RUN
On Anzac Day the Morris Minor Club are holding an afternoon run, visiting a number of monuments around the New Plymouth area. We will meet at the Omata School, at the Holloway Rd/Waireka Rd Junction at 1.00 to 1.15pm. The run will end at Inglewood and we will then drive to our VCC clubrooms for a shared afternoon tea. The M M Club would like to invite any Branch members that would like to join us to come and take part. Please remember a plate for afternoon tea. An elderly couple was celebrating their sixtieth anniversary. The couple had married as childhood sweethearts and had moved back to their old neighbourhood after they retired. Holding hands, they walked back to their old school. It was not locked, so they entered, and found the old desk they’d shared, where Jerry had carved I love you, Sally. On their way back home, a bag of money fell out of an armoured car, practically landing at their feet. Sally quickly picked it up and, not sure what to do with it, they took it home. There, she counted the money - fifty thousand dollars! Jerry said, We’ve got to give it back. Sally said, Finders keepers. She put the money back in the bag and hid it in their attic. The next day, two police officers were canvassing the neighbourhood looking for the money, and knocked on their door. Pardon me, did either of you find a bag that fell out of an armoured car yesterday? Sally said, No. Jerry said, She’s lying. She hid it up in the attic. Sally said, Don’t believe him, he’s getting senile The agents turned to Jerry and began to question him. One said: Tell us the story from the beginning. Jerry said, Well, when Sally and I were walking home from school yesterday .. The first police officer turned to his partner and said, “We’re outta here”!
