The 2021 International Rally in Taranaki has had a hiccup with Colin Johnston having to pull out as Rally Director. We as a Branch will have the opportunity to hear all the details at a branch meeting where Diane Quarrie and Management team will be able to comment and give the Branch details as to why Colin has pulled out as Rally Director. This is a real blow for the Branch and for Colin.

Many thanks to all that entered the Breakfast run and the Mid-week run. At the Breakfast run the first the first instruction caught out a couple of competitors but Cumberland St has been there for a long time. Perhaps it was too early in the morning. The weather for the Midweek run could not have been worse, however a good number of members turned up. The motocross bike collection was amazing and I will be giving other members that were unable to be present an opportunity to see them on a Sunday run later in October. COMING EVENTS Sunday August 27 National Daffodil Rally for Cancer, full details elsewhere in this issue. The Clubrooms will not be open this Sunday.
September 16 The Rubber Duckie Motorcycle Rally, please phone Rob Gudopp if you can help out on the day. September 21 On club night Alan Henry will be showing a DVD of Pre- war car racing. September 28 The Midweek run from the Orlando St Playground car park in Stratford, meeting at 1.30pm. Saturday 30 The Brick Run, details will be in next month’s mag. Sunday October 22 A run to a motocross bike collection at Egmont village, then following this a visit to view Laurie Callender’s collection of Speedway memorabilia at Tariki. We will meet at the carpark next to the Egmont Village Service Station at 1.30pm. November 19 Potters Paddock Gynkhana, Stratford. I am planning some longer back country runs in both North and South Taranaki once the weather warms up. Safe Motoring John
NATIONAL DAFFODIL RALLY FOR CANCER- SUNDAY 27TH AUGUST This will take place from the East End Reserve at Nobs Line, Strandon starting at 11.30am. We are holding an easy non-competitive rally taking about 1 hour to complete and will cost each entrant $10 to be donated to the Cancer Society. Following this a public between 1 to 3.30pm.

Some of the members have offered to give rides to the public in their vehicles to raise funds as well. OtherTaranaki motoring clubs have kindly offered to participate which. will help to make the day a huge success. Members are welcome to bring a picnic lunch if they wish. Results of the BREAKFAST RUN

A good turnout of about 22 members’ saw the first car away at 7.30pm on an overcast Sunday morning.A short cruise round the suburbs, then out to Hurford Rd via Carrington, Hurworth and Frankly roads, saw us back into town past the tank Farm, Paritutu and back into town for breakfast at the Autolodge. After a count up resulted in a tie for 1st place a short quiz was held to determine the eventual winners, Doug and Jim, with Peter and Lynne Ingram coming in a close second and Brian and Alison Bolland in third place. A most enjoyable run and a very tasty breakfast, thanks John and helpers for organising it. The Winners

(Vehicle Identity Cards) Approximately three months prior to the due date National Office will automatically send out a reminder notice for VIC’s that are about to expire. Please check your VIC and if you find you have not received one of these, please advise the National Office. Remember that all VIC ID cards expire upon change of ownership, or 10 years after issue date (whichever comes first) Also its Subscription time again, invoices will be going out to all members in September 2017 for the period 1 November to 31 October 2018. To receive the $11.50 discount, payment must be received by the National Office no later than 31 October 2017. Membership cards are forwarded to financial members in November.

EXECUTIVE / ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
BLENHEIM AUGUST 2017 EXECUTIVE MEETING. [Friday Evening] Our current Branch membership stands at 185 as at 8th August. Generally, the Friday evening Executive meeting progressed quite rapidly through formalities and into general business with nothing attracting much debate. Health & Safety: David Yorke [Management Committee] spoke of putting a Health & Safety template together for the upcoming National Day. He also spoke to a question from the Manawatu Branch re the necessity to follow Health & Safety practices following a query the said branch made to ‘Worksafe’ who had indicated that the Health & Safety regulations were not applicable to an organisation which relied on Volunteers entirely. This advice was incorrect. [Hopefully our Guest Speaker for Augusts N & N will (have) enlightened us in more detail on the necessary interpretations of the regulations.] The work of the Communications and Marketing Officer, Ross Holden, is still a ‘work in progress’ with the Management Committee now to look further at this role. The rapidly increasing use of electronic media accessing the VCC web site, Face Book, etc was encouraging, with some branches having now created their own Face Book page. The National Secretary / Treasurer indicated there would not be an increase in the annual subscription for the 2018 year. Current members will be invoiced their subscription renewal during late August / early September this year. The National Accounts show a healthy surplus for the year. Don Muller, our National Archivist has been very active in his role over the last 12 months. He, and his wife Marlene, attend the archives once and sometimes twice a week. A very enthusiastic archivist. Following the call of all Branch written Constitutions by the National Office and they reading through same, it was revealed many of our branch Constitutions are in need of possible revision and updating. I asked of what progress had been made in the revision of the Incorporated Societies Act 1908, the answer from a management member, the ‘revision had gone to ground’, hence no progress of date. A suggestion was made a Template be created that would be of help for any Branch writing a new Constitution. The VCC representative to the NZFOMC, Tony Bartlett, in his report, outlined the concern being expressed because of the, in his words, the ‘variability of vehicle inspections’ and the difficulty in obtaining W.O.F. inspections for our older vehicles. Tony’s report also included the concern being expressed in the use of the Motor Cycle Safety Levy, part of the motor cycle licence fee, not being
spent on ‘safety initiatives / workshops’ Comment was also made about unsatisfactory outcomes for members who have imported vehicles without sufficient enquiry or due diligence prior to shipping. [I am aware of some very deliberate misrepresentations when it has come to the description of a vehicle for sale, some cases are nothing short of horrific.] The largest vehicle category by numbers is now the P60V class, now having exceeded the PWV class. Fuel Card Promotion. Further details to come from National Office. Some of the discounts available are very attractive. Formalities at the start of the A.G.M had an added dimension this year. As well as the usual housekeeping and case of emergency announcements, we were advised a First Aid person and a Defribulator were present. Following formal proceedings, reports from Management Committee members were presented and approved. No issues were presented to the meeting. Beaded Wheels: A small increase in Book Stall price had so far not affected sales. In Rod Brayshaw’s report he commented on the more positive attitude that may be starting to prevail at NZTA with regard to a 12 months WOF’s for our club eligible vehicles. At last a positive step but don’t hold your breath. The new North Island Club Captain was introduced to the meeting. By all accounts a real ‘bundle of energy’. The results of voting to the two ‘Notices of Motion were announced at the meeting. The result: #1 Application for Membership. For the motion 1102 votes 67% of the membership Against the motion 639 votes 33% of the membership #2 Aim and Objects of the Club, Section 3.1. For the motion 355 votes 22% of the membership Against the motion 1281 votes 78% of the membership As neither motion met the required threshold of a 75% ‘For’ the motion, both motions were lost. In total 19% of the club’s membership of over 8500 members voted, with very low voting numbers drawing comment and concern from the meeting. Although the second motion was lost, some discussion followed. From our Branch 36 members recorded their vote. The Management Committee is to continue looking at the streamlining of Membership Applications.

In response to a letter from a VCC member, a rather forthright discussion took place over the interpretation of the 30-year rule. National Calendar of Events. Management insisted this only be used for registering national events, not for Branch events that are organised for only the branch membership. Tony Haycock, the Clubs Speed Steward, noted there had not been any uptake of a speed event idea. Diane Quarrie, Nat. President, informed the meeting Colin Johnston had resigned his role as Rally Director for the 2021 International. No discussion took place on Colin’s decision. Some discussion prevailed over the concept of the International Rally. One idea from the floor was to identify two permanent venues for this event, one in the South Island [Canterbury – Cutler Park] and one in the North Island [Waikato Mystery Creek] John Goddard Trophy This year was presented to the Beaded Wheels team led by Kevin Clarkson. David Yorke gave a very stimulating presentation as a result of his, with the assistance of Roger White and Steve Trott, look into the future of International and the larger VCC of N.Z national events. The presentation includes a very comprehensive research into three major events; [1] Americana in New Plymouth February 2017 [2] Beach Hop 2016 [3] Art Deco Event, Napier 2016 Participation numbers, both vehicles and people, were ‘mind boggling’, as well as the financial churn in the areas these events were held. I am not sure of the total relevance of these three events to our organisations major events, but I am sure some of the successful aspects of these events could be ‘borrowed’. The presentation was inspiring – do I see the potential for this Management Committee member to give direction to our clubs’ future, I certainly do! David’s presentation is to be sent to all Branches. National Day. It was reported there had been good response to this event from most branches. David York used a Power Point presentation to promote an idea for streamlining new membership applications. His thoughts are a blanket new member application fee for the first year.
