Parts Shed Report for August .
The Parts Shed continues to be a hive of activity every Wed. morning with progress being made by the team in sorting, re-cycling, labelling and dismantling. We thank Joan Paul for her kind donation of Ford engines (Mark 1 Zephyr and XB Falcon) as well as an assortment of shelving, 1950s car radios, acetylene lights and other miscellaneous items. These are all available for purchase at this time. Car heaters seem to be a popular item at this time of the year, but we are also moving good stocks of wheel rims, tyres , 6 and 12 volt light bulbs and tune-up components for our older cars. On a beautiful sunny day, nineteen cars left the club house travelling up Beaconsfield Road, and around the Fairview and Claremont areas, before travelling back to Timaru via SH8, Cartwrights/Pages/Gleniti Roads, to the Scenic Reserve for afternoon tea. Great views and lovely weather made for an enjoyable get together. Thank you Warren & Kate for arranging this trip.

Dear Grant With reference to your statement at the 2018 Annual General Meeting regarding the apparent non- audit trail of $2000 ‘cash’. The Club Committee have investigated your allegation that this money did not appear on any of the Clubs accounts. On investigation the audit trail shows a clear transfer of the $2000 from the Swap Meet Serious Saver Account to the Swap Meet cheque account, as shown in the Club’s financial balance for the year 2015/16. Club policy is that all transactions are through the Clubs bank accounts and ‘cash’ is not used in any situation. I trust that this clarifies this matter. John Foster briefing the crowd at the start of the rally, entry numbers were up on last year which is gratifying for the support of the charity. John thanks all the helpers who helped to organise the day, the marshalls, the team on the registration and raffle sales and Darren of S J Allen for supplying the very grand mobile toilet unit for the homestead visit inland from Orari. I was a bit worried though when Darren towed the unit out the gate later in the afternoon that he had checked that no one was still occupied on board!! The day being superb weather wise made for a very successful event. ED Bill

Greetings I just thought I should touch base with an update of our upcoming rally The site plan is now complete and we have plenty of room for everyone. We will have displays happening all day with large machines, cranes, log truck to other stuff. Grand parades will be ongoing throughout the day around the main racing track with each section having an allotted time for a parade or to show a crowd pulling display. So far there are many classic trucks and tractors, 10? traction engines, and the old military vehicles and guns are also attending so the weekend is looking to be a lot of fun. Entries are coming in now but we need MORE!!!! Especially cars, both classic and vintage. Please encourage exhibitors to load all entries via the www.sctetm.co.nz web page or if that is difficult please use the attached manual form and please feel free to forward this email to whoever you think would like to attend. We want this weekend to be a success with lots of vehicles and machines, just anything with some or lots of HORSEPOWER is extremely welcome. Thank you and I hope to see you Labour weekend. Chairmans Report Sth Canty Branch VCC of NZ for September 2018 Hi Fellow Members, Since last month I have had the privilege of representing you at the Vintage Car Club of NZ AGM & Executive Meeting in Napier on August 34th . The Executive meeting and the AGM went smoothly ,better than I expected. High lights were, Founding & Life Member Andrew Anderson gave a short stirring address on the importance of putting the fun back into VCC events. The existing President Diane Quarrie was re elected plus the existing management team. Greg Terrill made an excellent presentation on the 2021 National ”Festival of Motoring” Rally to be held over a week in January 17th— 22nd 2021 in New Plymouth The result of the 2 notices motion mailed out to ALL members on the Post 1980 vehicle dating was that Motion 2 was passed by 1187 to 160 against Whilst the subject matter of the motions was slightly complex, it was disappointing to learn that only 13% of our branch returned their voting forms Starting next year, North & South Island Easter Rallies will be on alternate years,starting with Ashburton in 2019. National Subscriptions will increase by $5.00 P.A. from next year. The AGM was very ably Organised by the Hawkes Bay Branch who picked everyone up from & returned them to the airport. We also got to see the inside of Steve Trott’s amazing shed and some of his cars + Hooters Classic & Vintage car hire featuring many 1920’s cars including 5 Hupmobile touring cars. This was followed by lunch at the Branch Clubrooms before being dropped back to the Airport. The Annual Quiz night with Ashburton was held on August 16th, The 3 teams from Sth Canterbury convincingly retained the Trophy. An enjoyable night.
September 9th is the Opening Run with Ashburton, Meet at the Hinds Domain at 10 am.
OLD BOY’S - BIG TOY by ED BILL After Terry Wilson’s photo shown last month of the earlier exploits of our members, two very junior members of the day Alan Averis and Graham Rae were “ playing” with old motors .Well the two of them are still “playing with old motors” fifty plus years later! Here they both are tinkering with Alan’s latest “acquisition” the engine out of the ex Chatham Islands Rangatira, it’s huge. A little large for a truck re-power! This big diesel has been well maintained and still in great order, Alan and his team will now set it up to run with the idea of moving it on a low loader trailer so it could be taken to events and demonstrated. The specs are it weighs 14 tonnes, develops 800 H.P @ 400 rpm

Along a back drive was Gavin's large multi-storey shed – filled with memorabilia, projects and completed restorations. Along one wall were several Dodge vintage vehicles rescued and restored over the years, along with various post-war Fords and Dodges, several of 1950s and 1960s vintage. In a side garage were two Aussie ute projects on the go – Ford Zephyr Mk2 and Mainline, and alongside a machinery workshop full of tools for the different projects on hand. Out the back beside a number of old petrol pumps was an Irishmans Rally tribute – a rustic 1924 Dodge Tourer, complete with stenciled lettering of the different places visited on Irishmans rally from over the years. The raid was well organized with Group A and Group B spread across sites, including the pea-pie-pud club rooms lunch stop with parts shed open. Thank you to all who organized, catered, and let us roam within their sheds and projects. Kevin Manchester's Renault farm – 'Bernie Downs', Southburn

Due several kilometres west of Lex's at Southburn is the home of South Canterbury's key Renault enthusiast, Kevin Manchester – assembled in the garden were a variety of Renaults throughout the years – Dauphine, 8, 10, 16, 20, Clio, Megane, and to the side his Renualt 12 project, the engine recommissioned after over 16 years of non-use. Captivating the interest of many was Kevin's McCormick-Deering tracked tractor – a demonstration of the machine taking place in the nearby paddock.
This hefty TD 35 Diesel was the original crawler used on the Manchester farm over the years.

With State Highway 1 traffic belting past at a roaring pace, it was up a driveway of a bungalow – behind the gate, and not noticed from the road were an array of sheds, and a fair number of panel and paint projects taking shape. Within were a variety of roadsters – one being Murray Martin's Austin Healey Sprite, alongside a MGA – several Chevrolet truck projects, a full size 1950s Ford bodyshell, a Morris 8, a Chevrolet Camaro, a Holden ute and a rather 'landlocked' Triumph Herald estate, in a backyard accompanied by several ducks. It will be interesting to see all of these when completed and back on the road.

Lex's modern shed was larger than it first appeared, containing a variety of projects on the go within. Fitting in with his motorcycle and Mini collection – it was interesting playing 'spot the difference between the British and Australian versions present - were his Alvis cars – one of which the 3 1/2 litre Freestone and Webb project, one of the few bodies that were made for this model. In the sheds beside the Weir's house was the home of their vast collection, predominantly Chevrolets and Internationals – cars, trucks and tractors filling several sheds. Bill has several projects on the go, one of note being a rare 1957 Chevrolet 4door hardtop, another an oversized 1980 International 3388 tractor. The firing up of Bill's International C-1800 truck gained plenty of onlookers

In a large modern back shed, down from Clive's house with the 1928 Buick pride of place outside, and parked due east was the vast collection and projects of Clive Merry. Being a key Buick and Mercedes-Benz enthusiast, there were plenty of both within; a number of Buick projects along the back wall, and a timeline of Mercedes-Benz since the 1960s. There were a few Chevrolets present for good measure, along with a Daimler 2.5 V8, oval-window VW Beetle and – a Ford Mustang. A whiteboard showed the service/wof/ registration schedule for each, most currently running.
