From The Committee Reminder Christmas meeting, our Christmas meeting is on the 5th December it’s a pot luck BYO and from 6.30pm onwards at the Club Rooms. The Windsor Rally is this Saturday 1st December cars staring from alongside Scott’s Brewery at 10am, members entering are asked to bring a plate for afternoon tea, come down and support our members. It’s our main rally event and Kathleen and Rebecca have put a lot of effort into making it happen. On 23rd February we are holding our “All British Day” time to polish up your Austin, Wolseley, Rover, Ford etc. Clive Blunden is organising it if you need any information ask him. For those who favour 2 wheels the Gerald Lynch Blosse Motor Cycle Rally is on the 13th April. Robert Hutton is the organiser. A good supply of parts can be found at our Parts Department thanks to recent donations and purchases it’s open on Tuesday afternoons or call one of Toilers numbers in the Distributor, if you need a part for that restoration it’s the place to look. We had a good swap meet thanks to Lyn and the Team. Graeme is always looking for Articles for the Distributor, how about sitting down and writing one we all like to read about other’s experiences, instead of moaning that there is not enough in the magazine as some of our members seem to do. Adventure of an Old Restorer. I bought a second hand replacement petrol tank for the Morris as the original looked like it had been scraped along the road at one stage, it had quite a few holes in it, the new tank turned out to be homemade, nothing wrong with that as it was made of thicker steel than the original, but it was not made for a series 1 , the petrol filler pipe was out by about two and half inches, and would not fit into the cut out in the body, I cut it out and welded it into the right place, also there were no internal baffles, I did not want to cut the tank up too much so I cut a slit across the top of the tank and inserted the baffle and then welded up the slit along the top of the baffle, It stops the fuel sloshing around too much. Petrol tank now in place and new fire retardant petrol hose is in place up the driver's side of the car, opposite side from the exhaust system, I decided against the inline petrol pump and purchased a solid state SU type pump made in New Zealand by Fuel Flow Systems in the Waikato, same size and shape as the original SU pump and bolts onto the fire wall in the same place, also guaranteed for two years. Our Branch stores won out yet again, they found me an old inline glass bowl filter. I am not part of the throw away age yet, you only have to look at my shed to know that, bowl filters can me cleaned out unlike some of the inline filters that you have to discard and buy another. I was not too much up on the workings of a SU carburettor so I obtained a couple of books on it, and found the trouble, worn seals, Swift Automotive, Christchurch, supplied me with a overhaul set, and now it's working fine, have made up a air filter attachment that takes a Pod, the same thing worked very well on the Whippet. There is a web site just right for Morris 8 'nuts' like myself, Bob Bryan of England, I obtained all the drawings for the floor boards including the foot board across the top of the gear box, also the measurements for the wood blocks that the front seats rest on. The seat frames have all been cleaned off and I have taken them to Murray Frew of Glenavy to be upholstered, Jen and I have chosen Tan. Should have them back in the new year. VCC EASTER RALLY 2019 PRIDE OF OWNERSHIP AWARD We are holding a Pride of Ownership award in addition to the usual concours (Townshend) Trophy at the Easter Rally. This will be judged on the Sunday at the car display. The ‘Pride of Ownership’ awards takes into account the age of the vehicle, its condition and originality. It would, for instance, look favourabily on a ‘survivor’ vehicle, with its original paintwork, patina and (for example) whether it had its original factory stickers under the bonnet, boot and even the original supplying dealer’s sticker or badge. Other items that will be taken into account are cleanliness of the vehicle, both inside and out, including inside the boot and under the bonnet as well as the tyres and wheels. If the owner has the original (or copy) of the registration papers, owner’s manuals, sales brochures or period accessories, these will also be taken into account. Essentially, we are looking for good, honest survivor vehicles, not trailer queens. You will be displaying pride of ownership in your vehicle.
