Chairman’s Report First let me thank those of you who have rang and wished me well on my journey. I see by the minutes from our National Motorcycle Committee that registrations are coming in and all the hard work that has been done is all coming together. Well done team it can’t help but be a success. To non motorcycle club members please don’t be frightened to put your name down to help on this weekend. A big thank you to Chris, Sharon and my committee for your attention while I am out the chair. From Janice and myself we wish you all a very MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR. Club Captain’s Report The first event of the month, Armistice Day, saw Ray take his veteran car on the town Parade to transport the Mayor and Mayoress to the commemorations. Some of us went further afield, via the Lake and Golden Downs to Tapawera, where they had a large crowd for their service and a parade of horse drawn vehicles, veteran and vintage cars, as well as many static displays. A really good day. Thank you for all the people and cars that turned up for the Alzheimer's outing. We had enough cars for a rally! I would like to thank everyone for their support during the year, and wish you all a Very Merry Xmas and Happy New Year.

Secretary’s Scribblings... By the time you read this it will only be two weeks till Christmas and I hope the big fat jolly fellow in red brings you what you want, and that you all have a great time celebrating the reason for the season. We all wish Kelly the best for the forthcoming months and all our thoughts are with him and Janice at this time. Notes from our monthly meeting held last Wednesday. A note from the National Office, informing us that we have eleven members Unfinancial as at the end of November. I have contacted most of those of you who are on this list, so please get the subscriptions paid ASAP. If you don’t, then you will miss out on Beaded Wheels and our Branch Vintage Viewpoint. Also, if you have insurance through the VCC scheme with Vero, your vehicle will not be covered if you are not a financial member. There were three people who I could not contact so if you are one of those, please do what is right. Trevor discussed with us the National Motorcycle Rally - there are now very good entries in for that which has taken a weight off the minds of that committee, even though they have had to look at bigger venues than they first had booked. So well done that group. Now we look forward to that weekend in February for a successful Rally. Dale and her helpers in the Kitchen have been busy over the past month again. From your Committee, a huge thanks to all those who have been involved with helping, be it morning teas, lunches or making scones. A huge vote of thanks goes to Lorraine Pyne, Scone Maker Extraordinaire, (Rtd) who has made scones for the Club for over 30 years. Lorraine, please enjoy your retirement, and we hope to see you on Wednesdays now enjoying a cuppa sitting in the crowd rather than in the kitchen. On that note, we have had offers of help from 2 blokes to make scones, so thanks to them but more offers of help would be appreciated. The Redman room and kitchen have been booked out by a family for 2 days over Christmas, as their previous venue cancelled on them. We discussed charge out rates, and it was decided that we need to charge $150 for half a day and $250 for full day hire. I have been told that there was a very large hole dug around the stump at the top end of Patchett's Green, and on some days quite a number of blokes were seen peering into it. I wonder if they were wishing or perhaps praying that the stump would get up and walk out of the hole by itself. I am not sure how they got it out, but well done. I was quite intrigued by this and 6
went up last Friday to have a look, but to my disappointment, it was gone, and the hole filled in and ground levelled. Thanks to all involved. There was a watermain burst last week, to the side of the Clubrooms, at 2am in the morning. No one seemed to know who to contact, but in the end, it got sorted. There has been a suggestion from BHPA that each group have a name and phone number on or near the front of each club’s main entrance of a person who can be contacted in an emergency. In the Museum, the Model T car is now motorable so will be getting a WOF and registered, which will allow members to use this car on outings. Some driving instructions will probably be required as not many people will know how to drive it. There has been talk for some time about doing something about the noise in the Redman room when people are in there and it is often hard to hear. Don has done some research into this, and there are products available at a reasonable price. Bob and Lawrence are going to do a trial with a product to see if it works. As long as the product is fireproof and certified this will be installed. The last Wednesday morning tea will be on 19th December, then we will take a well-earned break until the 9th January when we will be back into it again. The next committee meeting will be on Wed. 16th January 2019, close off for a newsletter will be 7pm Wednesday 9th January 2019. Sharon and I wish you all a very merry Christmas, however you spend it. And, thanks for your support since I took over as Secretary. There has been a lot to learn, but I think I am getting the hang of it!

From the Blokes in the Shed‌ Yule Tide greetings to all branch members from the blokes. Thanks to all who used our wonderful facility. It's gratifying to be able to help folks find that sought after part. Progress continues in all aspects, with the container now starting to look good, for one. Another sound month financially. The stump of the big shea oak that was cut down by Ted a couple of years ago has been dug out and removed by a team of Farm Machinery blokes. Led by John Simmons, it took a bit of head scratching but eventually the "boys and their toys got the job done. The grass will return in due course. Thank you so much neighbours, a job well done. We finish the year on Wednesday 19th December and start again on Wednesday 9th January 2019. Rose and I attended the Bendigo Swap Meet last month and it has grown in size since our last visit and interesting as ever. We hired a rental car while there and went to Canberra and the incredible war memorial and museum. With Armistice Day celebrations in full swing, we found it all greatly moving. It was then on to Cooma, Thredbo across the Snowy Mountains, down the Murray River highway to Echuca for a steam boat (1906) ride. Such Fun. Cheers,

MEMO FROM THE MUSEUM Another year has gone by and I would like to take this opportunity to THANK all those that have given their Sunday afternoons to open the museum up, some days it has been very quite but others their have been people looking around. There has been visitors from many places including Australia, England and various other countries,, it has been interesting talking to these people. Also I would like to thank those that have done the vacuuming in the Redmond room on a Wednesday. Thank you to you all and a MERRY XMAS and a bright and happy New Year. Update from Your Social Convenor Not long now and that big jolly red fellow will be coming down the chimney (that's if you have all been good during the year). On the 6th Nov. we put on a BBQ tea for the Film Buffs club, they had a very enjoyable night, showing some old movies. The Clued up kids had a week at the park and we put on afternoon tea. I was away so a Big Thank you to the Ladies that put this on. On the 30th November we had our Xmas party with Santa and his fairy calling, and we also had a court sitting as there had been some naughty members, like catching undersized whitebait, little old ladies speeding and a bald headed man pinching brylcreem from a chemist, and I think the judge was after some pocket money for Xmas, as the fines were quite high. A lot of fun had by all. On Dec. the 6th we supplied a luncheon for the Awatere Garden club and on the 14th Dec. we are putting on a Xmas dinner for the Baden Powell Association. As the year draws to an end and I look back we have had a fairly busy one. I take this opportunity to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU to all those ladies that have helped in the kitchen during the year. To Lorraine Pyne, a special Thank you for all the scones she has made for the Wednesday morning teas. (I have got a couple of men that are interested in having a go at scone making next year, so if their is anyone else don't be shy) MERRY CHRISTMAS TO YOU ALL and travel safely if you are going away! Motorcycle Notes The November ride took us around the Queen Charlotte Drive via Havelock with lunch at the Cockle CafÊ and Bar in Picton. There was a good muster of eighteen members and friends all on two wheels apart from Trevor with the backup, good to see two of our lady members out both on club eligible bikes and Kim making his first appearance on his newly restored Triumph. This ride also set the scene for the much anticipated 250cc showdown between Deb on the BMW and Colin on the NSU, aka the disease. Trevor’s departure was delayed as one of the British machines failed to fire up, after ten minutes of kicking, swearing, sweating and vile threats the bike finally burst into life and disappeared from view at a very respectable speed, this did seem to set the standard for the rest of the run though. Leaving the park, I tucked in behind Kim on the Triumph, as we have all learnt motorcycle shakedown runs are just that, Brit bikes vibrate loosening previously tight nuts and bolts and on a newly finished bike it pays to keep a close eye on what’s about to disappear down the road unexpectedly. After a few miles it seemed the major lumps were hanging on to each other and it was time to speed up and see how the 250 battle was going, so I did speed up and after a while I sped up a bit more and when I hit the hills I knew I would catch them, nup never saw hide nor hair, the only bike seen was Zig heading back home bent over, one hand on the bars the other holding on to the petrol tap and intermittent black smoke coming out the exhaust. I only ever caught up to Deb when she stopped for a break at Linkwater. Colin was nowhere to be seen, alas the NSU suffered electrical faults (or it could have been a strategic withdrawal) so had limped home. On reaching the lunch stop both Colin and Zig had swapped to different bikes and arrived via the short route, a phone call advised that Kim had shed a chain and one of the other riders was returning to Blenheim for a trailer, leaving Trevor seized with feelings of incompetence and neglect having not seen them, to his relief they had taken a detour off the main road and fallen behind him in the backup . Mac arrived to have lunch with us and Phil arrived after having an earlier engagement. After lunch everyone headed home, some to wipe their bikes down others to figure out the reasons behind their bikes reluctance to preform , hopefully for them it will be an easy fix. Glenn

NATIONAL RALLY With one and a bit weeks to go the total entries stood at 70 odd which was well less than hoped for causing some of us on the rally committee some anxious nights sleep, apart from Trevor who was quite confident that all hell was going to break out in the last week. Fortunately for us and unfortunately for Carol who was doing all the receipting of entries; he was right,. At closing date the entry total was at 164 rally entrants and 228 people attending and enquires still coming in, the hardest bit now is wiping the smirk of Trevor’s face. As far as Vintage car club events go this is probably the largest club event outside of the Vero Rally, having a long tradition stretching back to 1967 and is held in high regard by club motorcyclists throughout the country. While we won’t be achieving the 200 bikes on the road that were present in 1977 when Marlborough last ran it, we will be well above several of the more recent events which is pleasing. As we get closer we will be asking for help with marshalling and setting up of venues so if you would like to help please let Trevor know . Trev
MOTORCYCLE EVENTS COMING UP Sunday December 16th
Leave the clubrooms at 11am on a short ride stopping at an appropriate place to raise a toast to Christmas before returning to the clubrooms for our annual Christmas pot luck lunch. The club will be supplying the BBQ, sausages, onions and bread, if you would like to bring something in the way of salads etc to share for lunch that would be appreciated also your own drinks, other than tea or coffee, the wife or mistress, not both. Lunch will be served between 12.30 and 1. For those not wishing to go on the ride the clubrooms and library will remain open.

A Drover named Bud was overseeing his herd in a remote mountainous pasture in Cooma when suddenly a brand-new BMW advanced out of a dust cloud towards him. The driver, a man in a Brioni suit, Gucci shoes, Ray Ban sunglasses and YSL tie, leans out the window and asks the cowboy, "If I tell you exactly how many cows and calves you have in your herd, Will you give me a calf?" Bud looks at the man, obviously a yuppie, then looks at his peacefully grazing herd and calmly answers, "Sure, Why not?" The yuppie parks his car, whips out his Dell notebook computer, connects it to his Cingular RAZR V3 cell phone, and surfs to a NASA page on the Internet, w here he calls up a GPS satellite to get an exact fix on his location which he then feeds to another NASA satellite that scans the area in an ultra-highresolution photo. The young man then opens the digital photo in Adobe Photoshop and exports it to an image processing facility in Hamburg, Germany . Within seconds, he receives an email on his Palm Pilot that the image has been processed and the data stored. He then accesses a MS-SQL database through an ODBC connected Excel spreadsheet with email on his Blackberry and, after a few minutes, receives a response. Finally, he prints out a full-colour, 150-page report on his hi-tech, miniaturized HP LaserJet printer and finally turns to the Drover and says, "You have exactly 1,586 cows and calves." "That's right. Well, I guess you can take one of my calves," says Bud. He watches the Bloke select one of the animals and looks on amused as he stuffs it into the trunk of his car. Then the Bud says to the young man, "Hey, if I can tell you exactly what your business is, will you give me back my calf?" The young man thinks about it for a second and then says, "Okay, why not?" "You're a Senator For The Australian Government", says Bud. "Wow! That's correct," says the yuppie, "but how did you guess that?" "No guessing required." answered the Drover. "You showed up here even though nobody called you; you want to get paid for an answer I already knew, to a question I never asked. You tried to show me how much smarter than me you are; and you don't know a thing about cows...this is a herd of sheep. . . Now give me back my dog. Sent in by Rose Preston.
