Greetings from the Chair......... Well, here we are already at the beginning of 2020 and I would like to wish you all a very happy New Year. Our family enjoyed a wonderful Christmas full of happy memories and we have now scattered all over the country (and the world) to settle back to new opportunities and old routines. Our first run of the season is behind us, thank-you to Simon O’Hara for organising it for us. The weather was hotter than perfect but in all other respects the day was without fault and the turn-out was impressive. Our first Club Night promises to be impressive too. Kaaren Smylie, North Island Captain will be with us to talk about National Rallies and other such matters. It is good to get a wider perspective on vintage motoring, hopefully, Kaaren will do just that. The following Sunday is our first competitive Rally – the Remembrance Rally – details further down. Also in February, we have the Stretched Gymkhana taking place on 22nd Looking forward, we have a busy couple of months coming up and your committee hopes that we have catered for a variety of interests in the Club. If you have ideas of things to do or would like to be more involved, please talk to a committee member. We are here to keep your Club an enjoyable place to participate in our shared interests. Club Captains Report A new year, a new decade. “Welcome to the 20s” has a vaguely familiar ring to it. The 1920s was the period some of our cars date back to, the "Roaring Twenties" or the "Jazz Age". We wait with interest to see what the current Twenties will bring. I hope club members have come through the holiday period in good health. Best wishes to those who are unwell or have suffered bereavements. We ended 2019 with a bang. More than 60 people turned for the Christmas barbecue at Neville and Beth’s home. Willie and Neville cooked up a storm on the barbecue and Beth provided salads etc as complements. A big thank you to all involved. We dined under sun umbrellas on the front lawn, an occasion that ended when a huge gust of wind cleared the tables and sent us on our way in the early evening. The meal followed a mystery rally, organised by John Clarke, that ended close to the venue, so we formed up and arrived in convoy. Blazing heat added to a most enjoyable day. The first rally of 2020 was the annual Coastal Run, organised by Simon O’Hara. That began with a section of straight-line navigation (not everybody’s choice of a start to a funday outing, but we eventually managed to separate the battling drivers and navigators). All survived as the rally continued on to end with a picnic lunch on a reserve at Riversdale on the east coast. Twenty-three cars turned out for the Coastal Run, with a handful bypassing the unsealed (and extremely dusty) Te Parae Road. A well-organised and successful club outing. After lunch, some of the cars continued on up the coast to Castlepoint and then home. · Finally, I have made contact with Neale Ryder, Wellington Club Captain, regarding closer relationships between our clubs. This is something I want to formalise (our club sprang from Wellington) and a good opportunity to get this under way is the Masterton A&P Show. Neale, pictured below, has a very old Vauxhall he’d like to exhibit and it would be good to have a strong entry from our branch to support him. The show is on from February 14 – 16. The 15th is Saturday and that looks like the best bet. Please phone me if you are able to come. I have reminded him about the Rex Porter Memorial Rally – Kevin Ball

Upcoming Rallies and Events Sunday February 9th Remembrance Rally Start at Clubrooms morning tea at 9.30 for a 10 am start. Heading west and south and lunch in Martinborough - picnic byo Returning to clubrooms for afternoon tea and prize-giving. Should be finished by 3.30 Saturday 22nd February Stretched Gymkhana Masterton A & P Showgrounds. Driver’s briefing will be at 8:45am, with the event expected to finish mid/late afternoon (BYO lunch / bbq sausages and bread will be available). Details and entry form on our website
Saturday 14th March Rex Porter Memorial Rally The Rally Assembly point is at the Vintage Car Club Rooms at Clareville A&P complex Rally Briefing at 9.30am & first Vehicle away at 10.00am. This will be an all-day competitive rally and will include most aspects of rallying. The route will be approximately 100 miles long More details and entry form on our website

Opening Hours for the Spare Parts Department The Spare Parts Department is open on the 3rd Sunday of the month from 9.30am to 12 noon. This will enable those members who are unable to get to the spare parts during the week. Don’t forget our spare parts department is also open the first Tuesday in the month from 9am to 12 noon, or you can contact Frank Lipinski (06 379 7167) for a private appointment.
Library Book Sale – There is still a great selection of books available to purchase. These books are either duplicate copies or are not required by the club.
