Chairmans Notes Greetings one and all - I’m told the working bee was well supported. I had a Tour Group though here that morning. See Frank’s report. - Glynis Robinson (Last year’s ladies’ run winner) organised, with helpers, a great afternoon with places of interest for Club members to view. Excellent turn out and weather and a nice change going to Glynis and David’s place for afternoon tea. Winner and next year organiser Dale Whitaker. We look forward to it and what’s in women’s sheds. Remember anyone can participate but the winner can only be a lady driver. - December club night was a cracker of an evening with nearly 70 members present to view items of interest, motor vehicles and a record 4 motorcycles. Only 1 car this year (3 didn’t quite make it but will be presented next year). Kevin Herdman's 1953 Ford V8 Customline, Mike Marshall’s 1956 Ariel, Lloyd Williams’ 1920 Triumph S D , P e te r Qu i l te r ’s 1 9 5 3 Competition Matchless 600 and Bill James’ 1956 Triumph. All excellent restorations. 1st motor vehicle, Kevin Herdman, 1st motorcycle Lloyd Williams. Well done to the winners and also all the members who presented vehicles. A lot of work but very

- Remember a box of rusty junk will always be that. Repaired and restored it becomes an item of interest that you and future generations will enjoy. Items of interest not very well supported. A better effort required next year. The winner of the Christmas Hamper raffle was Lee Turner. - December 14th Christmas Parade, assemble in Cook Street or Boy’s College Car Park 1pm. This year club vehicles will be promoting VCC and Vintage Weekend, If you don’t want to enter a car, dress up in vintage clothes and walk down the Avenue handing out flyers for the Burma Rally and Vintage Weekend. January 8 Club night is our traditional picnic night which will be a noggin and natter at the Clubrooms 5:30pm onwards. Come along in your Club vehicle with families and friends and grandchildren and enjoy this social evening. Bring preferred meats for the BBQ and a salad for the tables. (Sausages, patties, some meats, some drinks and nibbles will be supplied by the Club). - Burma Rally and Vintage Weekend is next month. Get your entries into Linda asap. We require marshals for the Saturday Ave park up and manning the VCC gazebo. If you didn’t put your name forward at Dec Club night phone me or Frank. For “Bruce’s Wellington Anniversary Run” on the Monday assemble at the Cornmarket for a 9am start. An interesting run around the outskirts of the City with a late morning tea at a place of interest. All Club members welcome. You don’t have to be a rally entrant. Branch members, a plate please for a late morning tea and farewell to our visitors. - Rally Secretary - Good news, Steve Hibberd came forward at the last Club night and is taking on this role. Many thanks Steve. The Committee is looking forward to your involvement. - The Club Truck is back up and running. Last month I fitted 4 remetalled con rods and a new set of pistons to the engine. Apprentice Rob O’Keeffe did the valve grind and assisted me. - New Year’s Day Bulls Run. Assemble 10:45 Bulls Town Centre. Bring lunch. - New Year’s Day - Taihape GumBoot Rally. Jack the Ariel is up to his trick again! I can’t help it, I really enjoy embarrassing Mike when he thinks he can trust me to behave myself! While nobody’s watching I run perfectly but in front of all his motorbike mates I play up just because I can. Recently Brenda and Mike hosted a weekend event for the Ariel club, everyone met in my shed at 1:30 on the Saturday and 8 Ariels and 3 other makes set off to Alan Hyde’s to view his large collection of bikes. On the way there my carburettor decided to flood. I managed to get the needle valve stuck and refused to go any further, so Mike had to put me on to a trailer and bring me home to his extreme embarrassment ! After a pleasant afternoons ride everyone else returned to a delicious roast meal dinner put on by Brenda and Carol Copplestone and with 10 around the table plenty of bike stories were swapped. On Sunday everyone rode to Clive Bardell’s to see his collection of bikes. The Manawatu Classic Motorcycle Club joined us for lunch in my shed where Brenda, Carol and Colleen Marsden had prepared 4 crock pots of delicious soup plus buns, bread and sausages as well as biscuits, tea and coffee and there was a good catch up between the 2 clubs. When everyone left I was returned to my usual place in the naughty corner until my flooding carburettor was fixed. Cheers until next time,

From the desk of Frank James, Wanganui Branch Club Captain Hello to you all. Thank you to everyone who helped at the Club Working Bee on Saturday 16 November with a good tidy-up overall of Club grounds and buildings. Peter’s help with the trimming of the hedges made the maintenance job so much easier for us – thanks very much. The Ladies Run was held on Sunday 24 November 2019 organised by Glynis

Robinson. It was a very enjoyable run with a couple of visits to places of interest for the 40 or so members who came along – great to see a fine selection of some 20 cars around the streets of Wanganui. Congratulations to Dale Whitaker and Linda O’Keeffe for being joint winners on the day. Club Night on Wednesday 4 December included the Restoration of the Year and we viewed a number of interesting cars and motorcycles as well as a few unique ‘items of interest’. Thank you to everyone who contributed with congratulations to Kevin Herdman for his very well restored 1953 Ford Customline and Lloyd Williams with his amazing 1920 Triumph Motorcycle. A great evening with a Clubroom full with members to enjoy the night. We look forward to seeing you at the Christmas Parade on Saturday 14 December – meet in Cook Street from 1 o’clock with the Parade set to begin at 2:00pm. Club Night for January 2020 will be on Wednesday 8 January and will be a BBQ picnic in the Clubrooms grounds – bring along your favourite foods and drinks and we’ll supply meat from the BBQ, buns and a few drinks. See you all there. Vintage Weekend is drawing near with the Burma Rally to be held on Sunday 19 January – please get your entries in as soon as you can and if you are not Rallying please let me know if you can help with Marshalling during the Rally. Hi Everyone, Following the success of the Targa 2019 VCC Time Trial, we're well under way preparing for "The Ultimate Time Trial 2020". NZ Classic Car Issue 349 Dec 2019/Jan 2020, available Monday 9th December 2019: Please refer advert attached for next year's event which appears in the next issue of NZ Classic Car, available from Monday 9th December 2019. This is a "must buy/must read" issue, of which an extra 6,000 copies are being printed. It comes with the 2020 calendar featuring pics of amazing classic cars, along with info re our 2019 VCC Time Trial and two brilliant articles written by two of this year's VCC Time Trial entrants. Targa 2020 VCC Time Trial: The route is still to be confirmed, but heads-up it will likely start from west/north of Auckland & head to Whangarei/Bay of Islands, before returning/skirting Auckland & over to the Coromandel before returning/finishing in Pukekohe. The Rally organisers assure you of an enjoyable weekend of fun and excitement, as you motor and explore the ‘Highlands’ of Taihape in the Central North Island. Over the two days you will travel over a few sealed roads, numerous unsealed roads, and farm tracks which will test your motoring skills. You will also view some of the most spectacular countryside in the North Island. Rally Briefings on both days will be held outside the Gretna Hotel in Hautapu Street, Taihape.

Burma Rally - 19th January 2020 The Burma Rally will take place over Wellington Anniversary Weekend and Wanganuiâ€™s popular Vintage Weekend . VCC members and Burma Rally vehicles play an important part in the weekend. Entrants are invited to display their vehicles, enjoy Vintage Weekend activities as well as taking part in the Burma Rally. It is recommended that you book your accommodation now. Rally packs will be available on Saturday 9am - 3pm and from Sunday 8.15am. See the rally programme below for details.

Friday 17th January:

PROGRAMME

5:30pm Official Vintage Weekend Launch and Burma Rally Meet and Greet in the Jubilee Room, The Grand Hotel, corner of St Hill and Guyton Streets. Finger food will be served, cash bar available.

Saturday 18th January: 8:30am Rivercity Market opens on the Riverbank. Vintage Weekend activities continue throughout the day. 8:00am-4:00pm Victoria Ave. Please be parked by 9.00am. Follow instructions from marshalls and park in especially designated areas for display. Look for the VCC sign to collect rally packs. Enjoy the Wheels on Victoria Ave Car Show, Caboodle Street Carnival, period clothing stalls and lots more. 4:00-5:00pm Classic Cruise. Meet at the Mitre10 carpark. Entry off Taupo Quay or Heads Road. Pay $5 to the Vintage Weekend Trust, on site, to be in the spot prize draws. 6:30pm The Grand Hotel. Enjoy a, prebooked, light dinner in the main dining room, full cash bar available . The Classic Cruise prize draws will be announced after 7pm.

Sunday 19th January: Bring your own picnic lunch and tea/coffee making gear including your own thermos of hot water. Rally packs can be collected from the Tail End Charlie at the start of the rally. 8:15am Assemble on Taupo Quay, by Moutoa Gardens. Follow parking instructions from the marshalls. 8:45am Briefing, all drivers and navigators must attend. 9:00am First vehicle away, starting times as indicated on your rally pack. The rally will finish with afternoon tea at the Clubrooms, Patapu St. Wanganui East. The Parts Shed will be open during this time. 6:00pm Pre dinner drinks at the Laird Park Bowling Club (entry from Blind Foundation and Netball Courts carpark, Peat St). 6:30pm Dinner and Prize Giving. We encourage period costume to be worn at Rally and Vintage Weekend activities, however it is not essential. Prizes will be awarded for the best dressed lady and gentleman at the prize giving dinner.

Monday 20th January: Bruceâ€™s Wellington Anniversary Day Run 9:00am Meet at the Cornmarket Reserve, corner of Somme Pde and Dublin St. The weekend will end with a late morning tea provided, at a special place of interest.

This rally is open to vehicles as defined in the rules of The Vintage Car Club of New Zealand (Inc.) Eligible entrants must be current financial members of The Vintage Car Club of New Zealand (Inc.), or overseas residents who are members of a recognised Antique Motoring Club. The entrant must either be the driver/ rider, navigator or passenger of the vehicle entered. Invited guests are deemed Non Competitive and should not interfere with the competitive section of the rally. Actions that may bring The Vintage Car Club of New Zealand (Inc.) into disrepute will incur disqualification. We prefer that you carry a fire extinguisher. Any entrant found using any electronic navigation device may be disqualified. Restricted to the first 130 vehicles - no late entries accepted.
