NOTICES
January 9 — Club Night— As in past years there is no organized club night but the club rooms will be open as usual for those who wish to have a natter and a catch up. January Sunday Run — There is no Sunday Run this month. January 19 — Cromwell Car Show 11:00am. The parts shed will be open during the car show and the yard at the club rooms will be available for public parking. A fee will be charged. VOLUNTEERS Volunteers will be needed to assist with field trials at both the MG Rally and the Alvis Rally in March of 2019. Nothing too onerous, and your help would be greatly appreciated. If you can help please contact John Martin 445 0598.
Copy deadline for next edition FIVE days after meeting day. Stories and photos unable to be used in next edition will be saved for later editions. Chairman's Report
Our Christmas party on our regular Wednesday Club night was a real success. The feedback I received from membership was encouraging. One comment was having it on a Wednesday was more accomodating. Could be people are full on at weekends. Point to ponder. Roddy Maxwell peeled and prepared the new spuds absolutely beautiful. Maureen performed her excellence in decorating our tables, and OH! that large Santa that Karelan bought added to the excitement of a packed hall. But the real treat was the way the membership as a whole turned up with a Christmas dress flair and the potluck food was scrumptous. Alf O'Sullivan added to the night with a full on raffle of all the prizes the club had collected over the years. 90 in all ranging from rally Tshirts to oil packs adding his flair to the entertainment. “Well-done everyone�. On the home front I have been (over the last year) restoring my 1974 Ford Capri GXL V6. I have owned this car for 25years. Initially classic motor racing it but since year 2000, has been in storage. I reconditioned the motor and gave it a good coat of paint and nearly ready to put it back into use. I have the vinyl top to replace and put the front and back screens back in. Watch my dust. Have a safe Christmas and will see you next year with a new vigor ready for another busy program. Murray George

Editors Comments Again I have a couple of things to bring to your attention: 1) Please read the notice on Page 9 regarding the fees for a hard copy of the Puff’n Stuff If you are getting a posted copy, you must respond by 1st January 2019 or you will likely not receive your copy. 2) For those long term members who would like a badge to commemorate their years of continuous membership, there are 25,35 and 50 year badges that you can apply for. In order to obtain one of these you must apply through the Secretary Murray Pryde. 3) You will notice on page 13 there is an ad for the National South Island Easter Rally hosted by the Ashburton Branch. Anyone who wishes more information on this either contact myself or the Ashburton Branch. It would be nice to see a good turn out from the Central Otago Branch. We have had some response to item 1 with a few of you opting to just get the email version of the Puff’n Stuff. Thank you to those who responded.
Hopefully most of you are now fully prepared for Christmas and all that comes with it. We have a shared responsibility in our house, for example gifts (wife’s responsibility), food and cooking (wife’s responsibility), putting up Christmas decorations (wife’s responsibility), cleaning house for guests (wife’s responsibility), relaxing with a good glass of wine ( I take a leading role here). I can just see all the emails coming in after that last paragraph. Another year has nearly gone and I am rapidly becoming convinced that it somehow speeds up as we get older. However we managed to take part in some very good runs and rallies throughout the year and with any sort of luck, we will partake of many more in the year to come. Since joining the COVCC we have met many great people and made some very good friends and that is one of the great things about the New Zealand vintage car scene. So for all those that we have met and for those that we have yet to meet, Lynne and I would like to wish each and all of you a

Minutes of the last Committee Meeting The minutes of the last committee meeting are displayed on the bulletin board in the Club rooms. Please read them.
Please note At the last committee meeting it was decided that due to increasing costs of printing and postage, there will be a fee for the paper version of the Puff’n Stuff. $30 per annum for the posted version. $15 per annum if picked up from the club rooms. Email copies no change. These prices are effective starting 1st Jan 2019. Those that want a hard copy must pay the fee into the club account 06-0921-0035-742-01 and contact Karelan or Greg (442-0962) with your choice. Those who change to the email version must contact the editors at yeaperson@xtra .co.nz with your email address. Sunday Run 16th December 2018 Four club and half a dozen modern cars assembled in Tarbert Street Alexandra on a glorious day for the December Sunday run (I didn’t count the people as I was too busy eating my lunch). It was great to see a few less familiar faces out to enjoy the run, organised by Sharron and Barry Walker. After a bit of a yarn we received an instruction sheet and headed off towards Omakau, crossing the Daniel O’Connell Bridge through Ophir and on to Poolburn. We then turned into Auripo Road travelling along the left hand side of the Ida Valley in front of the Raggedy Range towards Blackstone Hill. There had been some evidence of the recent flooding around Ophir, looking across towards Omakau, and as we moved further up the Valley there was still a lot of surface water around. We diverted out to the main Ida Valley Omakau Road via Boundary Road avoiding the lowest part of Ouripo Road, before returning to follow the hills via Ida Valley Station and Agnew roads and along Hills Creek Road. As you drive up the valley along these back roads you get a good feel for the development of the area with the remains of early mud huts and later large homesteads dotted along the route of the Central Otago railway (now the rail trail) with it’s substantial viaducts and cuttings. At the junction with the main Wedderburn Becks highway we stopped to view the old stone store on Lesley Anderson’s property. Her holiday house, the store and old school are all that remain of the Hills Creek settlement. Lesley has carried out substantial restoration work on the old store which was original built by one of the local publicans as a house for his daughter before becoming a store. In latter years part of the front wall and an internal wall were removed allowing a road grader to be stored there, with the back yard serving as a depot for road gangs. The building was in a pretty bad way when Lesley and her husband purchased it and the work to get to this stage makes car restoration look easy! Leaving Lesley’s place we headed back down to the Lauder Cafe for afternoon tea and a long chat before heading home. A great day out thanks Sharron and Barry. Noel Hassad

North Otago– Windsor Rally On Friday afternoon, 30 Nov. the Yeamans and the Martins met up at Tarras on our way to Oamaru. John & Wendy were in their MGA and we were in our TR2, lovely driving weather, tops down ( yes, of course I mean the cars) but we did make a small concession and left the side curtains on. On arrival at Oamaru we were met with large signs along the highway into town telling us that there were water restrictions and could everyone please conserve water. We weren’t too sure what was going on because they had just had a few days of massive rainfall, but we found out that the huge runoff had contaminated their water supply with sediment etc. and they only had a couple of days supply of good potable water. We were allowed a shower though, so things weren’t too bad in the confined space in the car the next day with the top up. Saturday arrived with a drizzly start so having put the top up the night before, that’s the way it stayed. John and Wendy met us at our motel and we headed down to the old Railway Precinct for checking in and also checking out the competition. Our 60 mile route took us through the city and outlying areas including several small towns — very picturesque and very green with signs of the recent heavy rains everywhere. We were off to a good start as first instruction was “Left from start”, hey even we can get that right or should I say left? However instruction number four “ Second Right—Wear Street” kind of threw us because we still have not seen Wear Street. We did a quick mental calculation, I mean quick for our age because it took us three blocks to do it, and two turns later were back on track. We think John and Wendy probably did much better. Lunch break and the field trials were in Maheno. We,the Yeamans, didn’t do too well at these either but had a lot of fun. After lunch a new set of instructions took us back to the club rooms in Oamaru for afternoon tea and prize giving. As you might guess, the Yeamans did not have their name called out here but John and Wendy won 3rd place in the Post War Vintage class. John and Wendy continued on to Timaru while we drove back home to Wanaka. All in all a very enjoyable couple of days. Rallys at Oamaru are always good, they have a fantastic selection of good roads with great scenery and they always organize a good rally. Lynne & Don

Parts Dept. The Parts Department is the place to go if you are looking for that electrical and related bits; points, condensers, spark plugs, distributor caps including some magneto caps, and that is only part of two shelves. A lot of this is NOS . At the working bee the floor in the tunnel barn has been cleared, there are quite a few bits for Triumph 2000 s and Hillman hunters including instruments Carburettors manifolds, steering racks, also quite a lot of BMC stuff. There are filters, fanbelts, gaskets, motors, gearboxes, new speedo conversion drives ie mph to KPH make your car 20% faster! We are selling a quantity of 200 universal beam (RSJ) in good condition. 3x 6m , 6x 3.1m, 4 x 3,9m $25per m or $1000.00 the lot. Build mum a clothesline.
