Cheviot Coast Run 2016 Colin Lewis and Digby Gemmell organised a run to Cheviot, the general plan being to drive there, support the town by eating and drinking their fare and driving back along the coastal route via Gore Bay and Motunau. The plan was realised and the day worked out well. Six cars and one motorcycle turned up at the Peg Hotel, all with drivers or a rider and most with passengers. Oldest car was the Lightfoot’s Standard, with the editor’s 55 B31 next with the others being of the ‘more modern, but not modern’ variety, though diversely manufactured in a geographical sense. The main road journey was pleasant enough and the lunch venue at the Two Rivers Café was good. The town was quite busy and people were obviously quite interested in the old vehicles. One knowledgeable observer noted that his father had a Zephyr just like Michael Williams’ one. Presumably the ‘Colonial’ variation. We all thought it a compliment, but I understand Michael didn’t. From Cheviot we proceeded coast wise along the Gore Bay Road, beautiful flowing terrain and only marginally spoilt by some pedestrian modern device whose operator couldn’t contemplate letting anything past.
