Cheviot Coast Run 2016 Colin Lewis and Digby Gemmell organised a run to Cheviot, the general plan being to drive there, support the town by eating and drinking their fare and driving back along the coastal route via Gore Bay and Motunau. The plan was realised and the day worked out well. Six cars and one motorcycle turned up at the Peg Hotel, all with drivers or a rider and most with passengers. Oldest car was the Lightfoot’s Standard, with the editor’s 55 B31 next with the others being of the ‘more modern, but not modern’ variety, though diversely manufactured in a geographical sense. The main road journey was pleasant enough and the lunch venue at the Two Rivers Café was good. The town was quite busy and people were obviously quite interested in the old vehicles. One knowledgeable observer noted that his father had a Zephyr just like Michael Williams’ one. Presumably the ‘Colonial’ variation. We all thought it a compliment, but I understand Michael didn’t. From Cheviot we proceeded coast wise along the Gore Bay Road, beautiful flowing terrain and only marginally spoilt by some pedestrian modern device whose operator couldn’t contemplate letting anything past. Seal turned to shingle after Gore Bay and I’m guessing this was about 45km. The shingle was pretty thick and skatey from my post on the BSA and a couple of interesting tank slappers were experienced, one of them witnessed. I understand from those in cars who had time to focus less on the road surface that it was a nice drive. A brief stop at Motunau Beach preceded a quick blast to Greta Valley CafÊ and some important social chatter before the trip back home, helped by a nice tail wind. You notice these things on a motorcycle.

Vintage Car Clubs magazines available on-line. The Vintage Car Club of New Zealand is creating a number of new online features that will be of advantage to members. The first one is now up and running. At a recent meeting of the Club Executive it was suggested branch monthly magazines and newsletters were made available for reading on the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand website. Magazines are now able to be read by going to http://www.vcc.org.nz and clicking on “News from our Branches” on the menu down the left side of the home page. Then click on the magazine you want to read. Each magazine will be posted as soon as it is received and will appear in the alphabetical order of the branches. The current monthly magazine for each branch will be removed once the current months is received. There are a number of magazines already on the site. You can read them at vcc.org.nz/news-from-our-branches To ensure your magazine or newsletter is posted please send a PDF file to the Vintage Car Club Communications and Marketing Officer at comms@vcc.org.nz. If you print your magazine please send me the print PDF or just turn your word file into a PDF. In the event that you have any problems turning your magazine or newsletter into a PDF, please contact me and we can work through it together. I would be grateful if you could pass this information on to the person in your branch who produces the magazine or newsletter. Irishman Creek Rally, Sat 3- Monday 5 June 2017. Start time is 8am for an 8.30 departure from Twizel. There is accommodation in Twizel or 30km up the road on Omarama. Alternatively you could start at 6 in Fairlie. Ring for bookings as we have found that websites show this weekend booked out but this is not the case. Saturday and Sunday will be in Fairlie so please make your accommodation arrangements with this in mind.
