MID WEEK RUN – THURSDAY JULY 11TH 2019 ON AN OVERCAST COOL DAY, SIXTEEN CARS LEFT THE CLUB ROOMS HEADING THROUGH TIMARU VIA OTIPUA/ WAI-ITI/MORGANS/PAGES/ KELLANDS ROADS, TURNING RIGHT INTO CARTWRIGHTS ROAD AND ONTO SH8.
TURNING RIGHT INTO LEVELS PLAIN ROAD, WE CARRIED ON TO SH1, OVER THE BRIDGES AND LEFT INTO WAITOHI-TEMUKA ROAD AND INTO EARLS ROAD, CARRYING ON INTO TE MONA ROAD. WE RAN INTO SOME LIGHT RAIN. WE THEN TRAVELLED THROUGH SEVERAL ROADS AT THE BACK OF GERALDINE, WITH LOVELY VIEWS, AND QUITE A FEW CORRUGATIONS, ENDING UP IN WOODBURY. AFTER A DRIVE AROUND THE SETTLEMENT WE THEN HEADED BACK VIA LYSAGHT, TRIPP SETTLEMENT, MAIN NORTH ROADS TO THE GERALDINE DOMAIN WHERE THE WEATHER HAD CLEARED ENOUGH FOR US TO GET OUT OUR SEATS AND ENJOY AFTERNOON TEA. Hi Fellow enthusiast’s, A quieter month just past , At the July Noggin & Natter, Oliver Irving showed video footage of the recent Irishman’ Rally, and Gordon Handy spoke about the new St John’s Health Shuttle & the need for volunteer drivers. Thank you to both of them. Evelyn & I attended the Mid-Week run on July 11th in the Buick, Shame about the corrugations. A convivial cuppa at Geraldine. Thanks’ Barry Yates for organizing it. Coming up we have the Annual Quiz night with Ashburton on August 1st, The garage raid to Ashburton on Saturday August 10th. PLUS The Daffodil Rally for Cancer on August 25th. We are hoping for a good turnout for this and there are fliers available for members to distribute for this. Just give me a call. See you on August 1st at the Quiz night & Noggin & Natter Ashley

This year we are taking advantage of Waitangi Day getting close to the weekend with an extra day away for those who want to. Oamaru has a variety of accommodations available and we already have a holiday home booked to provide the host venue for our communal meal.
Nothing else is set in stone but the rough itinerary was laid out in the last Tricar. As usual no entry fee. Instructions provided before-hand . Club eligible vehicles welcomed but not essential. Nothing is mandatory just a relaxed weekend. Would hope to see some new faces among the regulars. See the attached pages relating to one man's car collection of over 700 cars in South Dakota. The collection starts with 1957 models, mostly Ford with around 175 57's & 26 wagons, 117 58's, 33 59's & so on. He has one row of 18 cars all makes from 57. He then has about 80 Ford pickups from the 60's plus many others. He fits new headlights so they shine in the sun. Grant Mehrtens

CALLING FOR HELPERS FOR THE NATIONAL VETERAN RALLY 18-19-20 OCTOBER. This is just a heads up that the National Veteran Rally Committee will be requiring helpers in the following areas. We will need help on the FRIDAY NIGHT for the finger Dinner in the clubrooms, We will need help on SATURDAY MORNING for marshalling at the clubrooms & Photo shoot 8-30ish, AS WELL as down on the bay for the open day from about 10-30am We will need help on the SATURDAY NIGHT to help with the evening meal/ Bar-B Que in our clubrooms We will need help on the SUNDAY-RALLY DAY, at the designated lunch stop We know the rally isn’t until the 18,19, 20 October (the weekend before the Mt Cook Rally) but if you know you could help then please let Pauline Young know, by emailing her wpyoung@xyta.co.nz or phone or txt her on 0275399225. All British Day
Hello from a fellow Canterbury VCC member. I am currently restoring a 1920 Davis Phaeton and am currently in the middle of rebuilding the engine, which was dismantled and packed away in a crate approx 50 years ago ! The same goes for the rest of the car - a big jigsaw of parts to put back together , but slowly starting to get to the running chassis stage - just the engine to complete before commencing the body work. The engine is a Continental 7R six cylinder and I am looking to see if anyone in your club has a spare parts engine in their workshop / parts shed as I am missing some parts to complete the rebuild. Notes from the Library

Some inroads have been made into dealing with the magazines referred to in the last Tricar. Most of the several boxes of NZ Classic Cars are out on the duplicates table in the Club Rooms, but 26 copies of issues not in our collection were removed first, leaving only 11 issues pre August 2018 that we do not have. Meanwhile members please take away heaps of them! Does anyone want to take some and drop them off at their doctor’s surgery or other places where they might be appreciated? Anyone wanting to build up a collection of NZ Classic Car here’s an opportunity that includes a lot of early issues. I have not had the time to process all the rest which are secreted under tables etc in the Library and they will just have to wait until I get back in 2 months time. Also received were three manuals from James Lang, MGA and B Repair handbook, Holden Sunbird, and Mitsubishi Shogun, while Grant Mehrtens has donated an interesting poster featuring veteran cars for which we will try to find a spot where we can display it in the Club Rooms during the National Veteran Rally. Thanks to both these gentlemen.
I will be away in August and September but Committee Members will open the Library on Club Nights and if required on Wednesday mornings. If you take anything out please make sure to record it in the book and also record returns and replace on the shelves. Thanks Barry

PARTS SHED Lawson Badham born 1932 died 2019: Many of you would have known Lawson who was an Automotive Electrician in Timaru all his life. After his retirement Lawson spent many hours in his home workshop reconditioning starters, generators and alternators etc. He also had an extensive collection of spares, lights, lenses etc. and a large selection of service manuals. Upon Lawson's passing his sons have been charged with settling his affairs and have kindly donated his lifelong collection of very useful automotive parts and manuals. The SCVCC is very grateful to receive this kind donation and extend our deepest sympathy and grateful thanks to the family. John Campbell
