VCC CAR MUSEUM REVIEW During this year, the committee has been undertaking a review of our Museum facility. Over the last few years, it is fair to say that a number of the vehicles in the Museum have been treated by their owners as convenient storage, rather than exhibited. There have also been a few cars that have been in the Museum for well over 10+ years. The Museum is also due some maintenance and upgrade especially in relation to the floor and lighting but with the question over our tenure at our grounds, this has previously been deferred. The vehicles displayed have not been consistently described, and opening times, especially since the demise of the Information Centre are also being considered. Now that the club has received positive indications for the tenure of its buildings and land, we can now consider the future with more certainty. After consideration, the committee has adopted the following recommendations with respect to our Museum. Currently members are billed $2.00 per week for ‘storage’. This will now change to $12.00 per month (or part thereof) for ‘display’. Fees will now be billed six-monthly. Stands with details of the vehicle, history etc. will be obtained and displayed on stands on laminated sheets, along with any other items of interest (eg. sales brochures). Time limits will be set for display vehicles, ensuring a regular turnover. Displays will reflect the full range of VCC eligible vehicles (through to the 80’s). A ‘Car of the Month’ will be invited to be displayed at no charge and publicity of this vehicle will be in The Blowout. Other vehicles invited by the custodians to be displayed will be at no charge. Displayed vehicles will need to be groomed prior to entry and be of an appropriate standard (taking into account their condition), clean and tidy, with seat covers and loose and personal items removed. Owners will be required to maintain and clean their vehicles at least four times per year. Ashburton VCC members may visit the Museum free of charge at any time (may need to produce their membership card or badge). The Museum will be open when other events are taking place at the grounds. A committee member will now report on the Museum at each committee meeting. The Museum floor will be upgraded and painted with professional garage floor paint. The lighting will also be upgraded to LED. Now that we have found it necessary to chain off our road access, a professional gate sign will be obtained with contact details for the Club, Museum and Parts Shed. Veteran and Vintage Posh Picnic, Sunday 9th December
The annual posh picnic will be held at a stately home in the Rakaia district and will involve a return mileage to Ashburton of approx 40 miles. The event is This Photo by intended only for vehicles manufactured prior to 1932 and picnickers are encouraged to wear clothing reflecting the era of their vehicle. Butlers, handmaidens, footmen and other hangers on may use what ever is required to get them to the venue. The organisers have requested the presence of Harold and Megan but have yet to receive their RSPV. Picnickers will require afternoon tea and will be judged on the suitability of their accoutrements, conduct, and suitability of clothing. Please meet at the property of the Hon Bruce McIlroy, (look for the Bentley sign) cnr Racecourse Rd and Alford Forest Rd by 1.15 PM ready for the off at 1.30 PM. Chairman’s Report Well this year is going so fast that the year is all but over. The Tinwald Christmas Festival is on the 9th December and they would like some cars at this please, from 11am- 4pm at the Plains Railway. The Presbyterian Support would like some cars on the 21st November at lunch time to give some people a ride. The venue is yet to be confirmed. Please contact Peter Jacob or me if you can come to this day. October Club Night was Sue Power speaking about her time with the Paramedics in New Zealand and overseas. There was a small turnout on the night with only 22 people turning up. I can’t work out what we have to do to get people to these nights. The Christchurch Swap Meet has been and gone with a very wet Friday but Saturday turned out all right. I hope some people got some bargains at this event. Please don’t forget the P60/P80 Run on the 11th November leaving Ashburton Domain on West Street at 9am sharp. Also the Commercial Run on the 24th November meets at Clubrooms at 9am for cupper and leave at 9.30am. Please contact Ron Galletly on 3081940 by 17th November. Vintage & Veteran only Posh Picnic is on the 8th December with the Xmas BBQ Tea held at the Clubrooms from about 4pm on. Bring a salad along to share, sausages will be provided. Things are ticking along for the National South Island Easter Rally. Craig & I would like to take the time to thank the members for their kind thoughts after my son & brother; Tony had a bad crash on a motorbike in Australia early in October. He is on the slow road to recovery now and has just started to walk again after an 11hr operation on his leg, plus other Injuries, so once again, a big ‘Thank you’ to you all.
