CLUB CLEANING ROSTER 2019-2020 During the month, and preferably before the main calendar event, please give the clubrooms a thorough check over, as in: Clean the toilets and hand basins, check kitchen, window ledges etc, and sweep the floors. Window cleaning, washing walls etc will be done at working bees.
Note any required maintenance and pass on to the Building Officer– Warren Mackay, ph 09 4061955 If your date doesn’t suit you, please swap with someone else. For any other enquiries please contact the Club Captain.

The Far North Branch of the VCC does have a policy that pets are not brought to any Club events. We do ask that this policy is respected.

The Vintage Car Club of New Zealand
From the Chair……. It was sad to hear of the passing of George Coulson, one of our longtime members. It was only about 3 years ago, he cycled from Bluff to North Cape, a very fit man. They did not have a public funeral due to Covid restrictions so they are having a memorial service on the 3rd of October at 12 o”clock at Geards Funeral Home. Vince and Naomi will represent the Club at this service as well as any other members who wish to attend. I would like to acknowledge the hard work Warwick has put in to the Club since 2008, as our Southern Rep, at a time when contact to members was made by Telephone Tree. Times have changed, and now all members can be contacted by one person by email, with the click of a button. Thanks Warwick , you deserve a well earned break. I am pleased that Murray has taken on the position of Southern Club Captain, a person in charge of all motoring events of any kind. Get your cars out for those Friday pot luck lunches/ dinners.
Thank you Murray for taking on this position. Thanks for your support at the Father’s Day Rally. A good turnout and I think, an enjoyable day. A privilege to be able to visit Vince’s panel beating workshop and view his panelbeating skills. The proposed visit to Nudi Point in Takahue has been postponed because of other commitments. Planning is well in hand for the Sausage Sizzle lunch at the Clubrooms on Saturday 3rd of Oct. Note that because of this there will be no Nog’ n Natter on Friday night. Please feel free to bring friends and we hope to see members from other Clubs and a good selection of classic and vintage cars. Happy Motoring,

Club Captain’s Report….. Spring is here upon us and the grass should be growing. Our Fathers Day run organised by Winston and Glenis started at Vince Mason’s panel shop in Kaitaia where we were shown Vince’s various restoration projects. Our run went thru to Ahipara and up to the Bayview Motel where we enjoyed a fantastic Stone Grill meal. Great views of Ninety Mile Beach and Shipwreck Bay.

Sausage sizzle and chips available (Small Charge $5) On the Saturday 31st October is our working bee at the clubrooms.

Kaipara Vintage Car Tour Kae and Paul Bond with Gloria and Murray Cormack have planned a 3-day, 2-night Kaipara tour on 15 to 17 November. We wonder if any other FNVCC members would wish to join us. th

SATURDAY 28 NOVEMBER 2020 In order to avoid clashing with the Kerikeri run/ walk event traffic we have moved over a bit. As this is an event we share with our folks from Whangarei and Dargaville, we need to offer a bit more than a saunter down the road to a café. SO, as usual we will meet in KAWAKAWA by 10.30 to start at 11.00. If we are lucky the new Hundertwasser complex in Kawakawa will be open for a visit.

Our run will be out East, featuring some gravel roads, great vistas and history. We plan to visit a winery and luncheon at the restaurant which should prove memorable. For those who do not want to lunch out a picnic lunch is suggested but of course, is weather controlled.
and appreciation of George Coulson. He was a man of many talents. His business and people skills were well appreciated in the Club. He first joined the Club over 20 years ago, when he bought a Ford Prefect car. He was regular at our Club meetings and events and enjoyed being involved with the Auto Spectacular, continuing his membership long after he sold his car, because he loved the Club interaction and friendships His membership lapsed after our Club relinquished the organisation of the Autospectacular. Later he had regrets about this, and reapplied to become a member again, even though he did not own a vintage car. We were glad to have George back as a member again. When he became very sick he enjoyed our Club newsletter-”The Focus”- as well as the Beaded Wheels magazine from the national office. George loved old things and history. These magazines helped lift his mind and give him an interest while he was sick.
Closer to the time we will pass on final details which will require committed lunch bookings. In the mean time crank up the vehicles and book in the date:

George was a good member of our Club with wise input. A man very easy to get along with. It’s unfortunate that his memorial service clashes with our Club open day where we have invited other car clubs to come along and join us for lunch and an afternoon together. George’s service will be held on Saturday 3rd of October at 12 noon at Geard’s Funeral Home, Kaitaia. Naomi and I will attend as Club members and friends, to represent the Club.

ART DECO FESTIVAL 2021 THE VETERANS ARE COMING Come to Napier and join the HBVCC for Art Deco 2021 from February 18th 21st. Kindly sponsored again this year by Euro City Ltd In 2021 the Featured Group will be Veteran Motor Vehicles (all will be over 100 years old). We are expecting 50 plus Veterans thus year and already have 25 Veteran entries as at 10 September. Cars, commercials, motorcycles, highwheelers, steam , electric and petrol. Veterans entered already include an 1895 Velo Benz, 1903/4 Oldsmobiles (3), De Dion, Calcott, Hupmobile, GWK, Dodge (3), Sears, L’etoile, Darracq (2) , Cadillac , Mitchell, Holly, Briscoe, New Pick and 5 Model T Fords. 2021 will be the 90th anniversary of the 1931 Napier Earthquake. We want to get as many EQ survivor cars to attend the 2021 AD Festival as possible. A commemorative banner or similar will be presented to all qualifying vehicles. To qualify your vehicle must have been in Napier or Hastings at the time of the EQ. Please contact me if you have such a vehicle or know someone who has. The same applies if you own or know of any First Response Vehicles that may have been present during the EQ. (eg Ambulance, Fire Engine, Police, Military). For 2021 the main annual rally is again on Friday and we plan to have a touring run plus a picnic lunch at a great lunch venue. On Saturday we will have the morning tea and car show and popular choice at the HBVCC clubrooms, followed by the grand parade. Sunday events include breakfast at the HBVCC clubrooms and the Gatsby picnic in the afternoon. There are many other events offered by Art Deco Trust on the Friday and Saturday nights. Come and join the other 180 plus club eligible vehicles we expect to enter the 2021 Event. If you are entering a Veteran there are special additional events for you on the Wednesday and Thursday of Art Deco Week. If you plan to attend these please plan to arrive in Napier on the Tuesday. Otherwise we suggest you plan to arrive in Napier on Thursday 20th so you can attend the Dinner at the Clubrooms that evening. We have prizes for the best dressed couples again this year. Dinner tickets are limited so be in quick.
