Club meetings on the second Tuesday of the month at the Aurere Clubrooms at 7.30pm.
CLUB CLEANING ROSTER 2019-2020 During the month, and preferably before the main calendar event, please give the clubrooms a thorough check over, as in: Clean the toilets and hand basins, check kitchen, window ledges etc, and sweep the floors. Window cleaning, washing walls etc will be done at working bees.
Note any required maintenance and pass on to the Building Officer- Peter Mason, ph 406 1409. If your date doesn’t suit you, please swap with someone else. For any other enquiries please contact the Club Captain.

From the Chair……. Greetings The formalities of the yearly Annual General Meeting with reports, financial accounts and election of officers for the coming year are all completed for another year. All roles have been filled, and a real big thank-you to those members continuing in their areas of responsibilities. We all appreciate Graeme Moore for stepping up for the position of Club Captain as he is very busy with other interests. Graeme brings great enthusiasm to the role and has spent considerable time on the Calendar of Events for the next twelve months. With reduced participation on our normal events the rallies and activities need great variety to accommodate our membership needs. Some rallies, such as this years Brian Parker Memorial Rally, have been far longer than our usual runs, while the Mother’s Day and the Molloy rallies have been/will be a lot shorter in distance travelled. We need to be confident with the change and variety, and have events appealing to a wide selection of our members. Let’s get behind Graeme and his helpers and support his programme of events.

Gloria and myself were organisers last year, and Winston made the museum available again as a destination, but unfortunately these resources are not available this year. Due to other commitments, our band of active members were not available as organisers this year. Last year eight VCC branches did not participate in the Daffodil Rally. This month is our Annual Luncheon and Prizegiving at the Mangonui Cruising Club premises. This proved a tremendous location for our purposes last year. It is a great opportunity to socialise and record the achievements of members for the year. All details in Focus. Matters mechanical: Modern traffic and road densities. Any members who have driven on our main roads in a vintage car for any great distance will know this can be a stressful experience. We can’t change the traffic but let’s discover roads less travelled by the public and chill! Vintage motoring is still worth it and there are great places to see in NZ. Hope to catch up with you soon.

Hi, I’m a Vauxhall enthusiast who is restoring a 1934 Vauxhall ASX sedan. I live at Wakefield outside of Nelson and I’m struggling for a couple of parts and wondered if there was anyone within your club who may be able to help me out. The parts I need are: 1
The key/light switch which has a built in regulator (hard to describe what it looks like– but like an older oven switch– a flick switch with a central key hole. Hope that makes some sense to your members).

Two headlight top bottoms– either with Vauxhall or Lucas written on.
I am happy to pay for these parts if someone has spares they are willing to sell. Thanks for your help with this matter. Would love to hear from someone and make progress getting my Vauxhall on the road. David Ching.
Hi Folks Just a reminder to keep an eye out for scam emails. Always be on your toes. If someone requests money or gift cards, it is probably a scam. A quick way to check if an email appears to be from someone you know, asking for something unusual, put your cursor over the person’s name in the “from” field, and the email address comes up for you to check. Mulled Wine
I just discovered my age group! I am a Seenager (Senior Teenager). I have everything I wanted as a teenager, only 50/60 years later. I don’t have to go to school or work. I get an allowance every fortnight. I have my own i-pad. I don’t have a curfew. I have my drivers license and my own car. I have an ID that gets me into bars and the wine store. I like the wine store best. The people I hang around with are not scared of getting pregnant, they aren’t scared of anything, they’ve been blessed to live this long, why be scared? And I don’t have acne. Life is good! Also, you will feel much more intelligent after reading this, if you are a Seenager. Brains of older people are slow because they know so much. People do not decline mentally with age; it just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains. Scientists also believe this makes you hard of hearing because it puts pressure on your inner ear. Also, older people often go to another room to get something and when they get there, they stand there wondering what they came for. It is NOT a memory problem; it is nature’s way of making older people get more exercise.
1½ lb sugar
1½ pints water
2t cinnamon
2t mixed spice
4oz raisins
3l Velluto Rosso
Thinly pared rind & juice of 2 lemons & 2 oranges, plus 2-3 clove studded oranges and extra slices of lemon & orange. Put sugar & water in a large pot and heat to dissolve. Add spices, rind & juice. Bring to boil for 5minutes. Remove from heat, pour into bowl, add oranges/cloves and leave to infuse overnight (at least 6 hours). Just before serving strain into large pot, add raisins and bring to boil, then add wine and reheat but DO NOT BOIL. Float slices of lemon and orange on top. ENJOY! *******************

Molloy Trophy Rally Saturday 29th June A sunny morning, we Rex and Sandra pick up Steve and Stephanie in the Wolseley to drive to clubrooms from Kapiro. Morning tea was ready at clubrooms upon our arrival there. Vintage cars participating included an Austin A90, Pre 1920 Essex and Chev, Wolseley, Fiat, Left hand drive Falcon. Ruth and Winston are organisers of the Rally. We set off from the club rooms 11.00ish to drive up to the property of Andrew and Gail ( Ruth’s neighbours ), near Taipa View Rd. We have questions to answer on our Run sheet. We arrive at end of drive way to Andrew and Gail’s place, park. We are welcomed and walk to the house via the entrance covered walkway with the idyllic beauty of natives, rocks each side. The deck beams we walked on were from the old Whangarei wharf. Two Americans, previous owners had the walkway and home built. THEN, wow, we sight through a courtyard, lounge area the “SEA”, spectacular. We all spill onto the deck to view the sea, beach, horizon and surrounding farmland. Ruth spoke to us of the history of the property, which was previously owned by Ruth, very interesting. Next was a lovely walk through native bush carefully looked after by Andrew with pest trapping for possums, feral cats, rats. Andrew spoke of the pest trapping he has carried out, some seasons having trapped 60 to 70 possums in the 9 acres of bush. Very interesting and informative. In the middle of the walk Andrew showed us a large mature native tree he has yet to identify, there were two of these trees, the foliage so high up you could not see to identify. Leaves fallen to the bush floor were not identified by any of us for certain, Tawa, Towai ? Art works were in the native bush to sight when walking the bush, behold we walked through the Pearly Gates of the bush. At the end of the walk we passed Puriri trees and Kohekohe trees in flower. Andrew and Gail have 40 acres . Gail has livestock, who greeted us as we walked past . Back on the house deck have a drink of water and soak up the sun and view again. Andrew chatted about the property and home. Dot Com was going to buy it at one time , but it didn’t eventuate. Dotterels nest on the beach we view below. Andrew is a Dotterel protector and has successfully moved nests when threatened by the tide. Thankyou Andrew and Gail, caring protectors of their beautiful place. Andrew and Gail accept the clubs invitation to join us for Potluck lunch at the clubrooms, a pleasure to have them join us. OMG we did it again. A superb lunch. The Mulled wine being an elixir of warmth and enjoyment. Three course lunch, delicious seafood soup for starters. The biggest pavlova I’ve ever seen, great conversation. The Winners of the Molloy Trophy 2019 are Robyn and Warren Mackay. Congratulations Robyn and Warren. Thankyou Ruth and Winston for a great rally. Rex and Sandra
