CLUB CLEANING ROSTER 2019-2020 During the month, and preferably before the main calendar event, please give the clubrooms a thorough check over, as in: Clean the toilets and hand basins, check kitchen, window ledges etc, and sweep the floors. Window cleaning, washing walls etc will be done at working bees.

Finish at Matthews Museum– complimentary afternoon tea. FNVCC Clubrooms open from 5.15pm for BYO drinks, fruit punch available. Dinner to follow. Food and hot & cold drinks available at lunch stop

Northern Club Captain’s Report….. A Very quiet March partly due to a short halt on things due to COVID restrictions once again. The planned event at the Mangonui Waterfront Festival was cancelled as a result of COVID. People put a lot of effort into these events and to have it cancelled is such a shame. Good luck next year.

The Electric Vehicle debate still goes on. It has been an interesting month of published articles regarding the Government’s desire to reduce Carbon Emissions and remove Internal Combustion Vehicles from our roads. The Climate Change Commission is recommending that battery-powered vehicles be widely adopted as we transition to a low –emissions future. However this statement is raising many questions that need to be addressed. There has also been another article talking on the Carbon Footprint of electric cars. Although they produce just one-third of the lifetime emissions of a petrol car, electric vehicles aren’t completely clean. Carbon is created in the mining, manufacturing, shipping and recycling of the parts that make up every vehicle. It is reported that a petrol-fuelled Toyota Corolla’s lifetime carbon footprint is 3 times larger than a Hyundai Ioniq EV. However, 10.7 tonnes of carbon emissions are produced in the construction of the Ioniq EV compared to the 6.6tonnes for the Corolla.
Many Automakers are aware of the issue. General Motors has pledged that all its vehicles will run on lowemission fuels by 2035 and its manufacturing will be carbon-neutral by 2040. What will the carbon emissions be to achieve the technology needed to achieve these targets? Meet at the wharf carpark at Totara North 10.30am for an 11am rally start. The rally is approximately 90km, with a significant proportion on unsealed roads. Both the morning and afternoon sections are touring only, giving the vehicle occupants the chance to view the varied landscapes of the Far North. The drive section finishes at Matthews Vintage Museum Aurere for a complimentary afternoon tea. Following this the competitive section will be undertaken in the museum, where there will be a variety of questions on exhibits. The FNVCC clubrooms nearby will be open at 5.15pm, for a dinner with BYO drinks at 5.45pm. (Non-alcoholic punch will be served.) Food and hot and cold drinks are available for purchase at the lunch stop. Please Note: All arrangements will be subject to any Covid requirements. Conditions of entry: • Vehicles must be entered by a financial member of the VCC of NZ. This is obviously not the best representation, having been scanned from a plain paper print-out, but gives some idea of what is in store.
The Far North Branch of the VCC does have a policy that pets are not brought to any Club events. We do ask that this policy is respected.
