The outgoing committee would like to acknowledge the great enthusiasm displayed at our June AGM where we went from not having any prospective candidates to carry the Club forward to several of you putting your names forward, Thank you all for your attendance and great support to this Club as it approaches 40 years. Congratulations also to Tom Griffin on receiving the Frances Hunter trophy. To enable out of town committee members to attend the new committee is trialling Zoom meetings, a great initiative and I’m sure this will help attendance during the winter months. An email was sent out recently looking for a TV to use to run these meetings- if anybody has a TV that they would be willing to donate to the WCVCC it would be gratefully received. It does not have to be Smart but 40” or larger with at least one HDMI input. Thank you all for considering this. ROSCO MUDPLUG After weeks of adverse weather, the day dawned cold yet fine for the first round of the ‘Mud Plug’ challenge. Everyone was expecting the course to be wet underfoot and a challenge for the drivers; they weren’t disappointed. Numbers were good with 21 entries so there was a bit of variety out there. Round one saw Avon Hyde going first and scoring the highest for this test with a modest seven! With competitor five managing to score six points, with the rest of the field managing two points or less. News quickly spread that this course could be too tough to which the committee replied tough! The second test proved more favourable with three drivers scoring top points of 20 with a further 5 drivers scoring 10 or more. The rest were left floundering in the ever deteriorating conditions. The courses seemed to be getting easier as course three had 12 people managing a clear round and maximum points. The same smug committee members now feeling validated! Course 4, the infamous bush section! On this course, the committee, had changed from the traditional start point (often deemed too difficult) to a supposedly easier entry...THEY WERE WRONG. So much so, a unanimous decision was made to re-start the course from vantage point five. This left only three competitors unable to make double digits. After an early lunch (due to low scores) test five, six and seven were the reverse of three of the morning courses. Courses five and six proved more favourable for the majority of entrants. However, although severely altered with an apparent easier approach, test seven (the old one) proved very difficult for all but two competitors who only just managed to reach double figures. All in all a very enjoyable day, with lots of smiles and many stories to be told. The West
Coast branch of the VCC would like to thank Rosco Farming for again, providing a wonderful and challenging venue. Also a special thanks to Rosco for allowing not only his farm but his massive engineering workshop to be used for the event and after match barbeque, providing a warm and dry environment. VIC FORMS - A reminder to all members who have VIC cards that are due to expire, you will receive a personalised RENEWAL FORM from the National Office at least three months before the due date. You cannot download a form off the internet. They are personalised for each individual vehicle. Please fill in and hand to Branch Secretary. Please note that new applications can be downloaded from the website or contact the Branch Secretary. If you wish to participate in any National VCC Event, you need to have a Vehicle Identification Certificate, don’t leave it until the last minute as it takes some time for the processing of paperwork. If you sell your vintage vehicle and it has VIC Certification please notify NZVCC, POBox 2546, Christchurch. Ph 03 366 4461 or email: admin@vcc.org.nz VERO INSURANCE - If you take your Insurance out with VERO they will then pay the Branch a small Commission which helps with Branch finances. Please note that when applying for Insurance cover with VERO you must quote the Branch number which is 36 plus your membership number.
