The Christmas luncheon at the Union Hotel had a good attendance and was enjoyed by all, including Santa (again). Thank you to you know who ??? It was a nice end to a good year, thank you Colin for your organisation. Colin will be in touch with everyone with details of this month’s Club Run to Ross. Keith and Frank Bradley have assisted with this outing, great stuff guys. We welcome two new members to our Branch. Chris Hutchison has transferred from Nelson and his partner Jeanette Sandri has joined as a joint member. They are the proud owners of an Austin 7 which has been made up as a hearse. It can also be converted to a ute. We look forward to meeting up with on our runs. Entry forms for the Scenicland Rally on 16th March are now available, they have been emailed and posted to non email members. If you know of anyone who has missed this notification, please give me or Marie Woolhouse a call. John and his team have put much planning into the event, it would be good to see members support our annual Rally in greater numbers.
2021 VERO INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL OF HISTORIC MOTORING A notice from Tony Haycock The 2021 Vero International Festival of Historic Motoring would like to announce that our website www.historicmotoring.co.nz is now live. We would like to invite all our members and off-shore friends to go to the site and register your interest in attending the VCC’s showcase event. This will assist us with projected numbers and the type of vehicles we will need to cater for. We would also like to introduce our official accommodation suppliers for the Festival, the Plymouth International Hotel and the Auto Lodge Motor Inn. Both are offering special discounted rates for Festival entrants and offer a full range of accommodation from selfcontained motel type units to luxury suites. EVENTS ELSEWHERE WHEELS at WANAKA – Easter Weekend 2019 I have notification of this event to be held on Saturday 20th and Sunday 21 April. SOUTH ISLAND EASTER RALLY … 19th to 22nd April 2019 – Ashburton Branch 50th Anniversary. I now have entry forms for the above Rally. Please contact me if you would like one. We do have a group travelling to Ashburton.
MEMBER PROFILE – TOM GRIFFIN Tom was born on 1st October 1945 at Reefton. He went to TeKinga primary school, followed by Christchurch College primary, Ikamatua primary and Reefton High School. He obtained a mechanical apprenticeship at Brown Walters Garage and started there on 21 December 1962. Tom left after five years and joined the firm of Greenhill Transport as a driver mechanic where he worked for four years. When they folded he went to Schaef’s Garage for 11 years and after there he went to the Grey County Council workshop, with subsequent amalgamations he went to Westroads Ltd for approximately 24 years. He finished up at Vehicle Testing NZ for about 4 years before retirement. Over the years Tom has owned … baby Austin 7, Morris 8 Series E, 1948 Chevrolet, Mini Minors, Morris 1300, Holden EH Wagon, Holden HQ Wagon, 1954 Chevrolet sedan, Honda Accord Sedan, Mazda Wagon, Subaru Wagon, Toyota Rav 1996 and Toyota Rav 2003. Tom married Daphne (Piner) in 1972 and they have three children – Tania, Angela and Neil. Now there are six grandchildren to spoil. Tom joined the Vintage Car Club in 1977 when the West Coast came under the Christchurch Branch of the VCC. During this time he obtained the remains of a 1930 Chevrolet Sedan from a paddock at Rimu near Hokitika and after 35 years odd, it was finally on the road, warranted and registered. We see it on our Club Runs now, a beautiful vehicle.
Tom says the club itself evolved with membership growing and with help from Christchurch a sub-branch to Christchurch was formed and later, on the 11th July 1983 the West Coast Sub-branch became a full branch of the NZ Vintage Car Club. We had our 35th anniversary as a full Branch on the 11th July 2018. Over the years Tom has taken office as Chairman, Secretary, Club Captain and has been Treasurer for approx. 30 years. Tom was appointed as our first Patron at the Annual General Meeting in 2016 in recognition of 42 years service to the Club.

NAME BADGES – Also, please contact David Campbell if you would like a name badge. The Branch supplies your first one.
VIC FORMS - A reminder to all members who have VIC cards that are due to expire, you will receive a personalised RENEWAL FORM from the National Office at least three months before the due date. You cannot download a form off the internet. They are personalised for each individual vehicle. Please fill in and hand to Branch Secretary. Please note that new applications can be downloaded from the website or contact the Branch Secretary. If you
wish to participate in any National VCC Event, you need to have a Vehicle Identification Certificate, don’t leave it until the last minute as it takes some time for the processing of paperwork. If you sell your vintage vehicle and it has VIC Certification please notify NZVCC, POBox 2546, Christchurch. Ph 03 366 4461 or email: admin@vcc.org.nz
VERO INSURANCE - If you take your Insurance out with VERO they will then pay the Branch a small Commission which helps with Branch finances. Please note that when applying for Insurance cover with VERO you must quote the Branch number which is 36 plus your membership number. Also you are reminded that this scheme is set up for financial members only.
