Secretary Snippets The world is becoming a very small place there are “no far away countries now.With air travel available to us. We can now visit or reside in others countries within a few hours or days. We can communicate with other through out the world wiithin minutes,(iphones) and know of their disasters, earthquakes, triumphs etc.within a short time.Therefore this virus, covid 19 is easily spread throughout the world, and not just not in one place. There have been several items of support from the President and the North Island Club Captain which I have included in this newsletter. There is also a note that the Beaded Wheels will be sent to members by email this time
There will be no meeting or trip this Sunday, due to the lock down rules. Norma My Travel Plans for 2020 Iv’e been to many places,But I’ve never been to Kahoots. Apparently,you can’t go alone. You have to be in Kahoots with someone. I’ve never been in Cognito.I hear no one recogises you there. I have been in Sane. They don’t have an Airport; you have to be driven there, I have made several trips there, thanks to my children,family,friends and work. I would like to go to Conclusions,but you have to jump,and I’m not much on physical activity anymore. I have also been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go too,and I try not to visit often. Iv’e been inflexible,but only when it was very important to stand firm. Sometimes I’m in Capable,and I go there more often as I’m getting older. One of my favourite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get. Lately, Iv’e been to a place called Lockdown, • I am at home in my little bubble,in isolation for 3 weeks,so far. While the country is in lockdown I am only able to visit the super market for groceries or visit chemist for medical supplies. • Unable to travel any distance.

MESSAGE OF SUPPORT Dear North Island Branch Members Without the risk of repeating to you the same messages that keep appearing regularly in your INBOX...and on all your social media platforms...that is Be Safe, Be Strong and Be Kind, I wanted to reach out to you in my capacity as North Island Club Captain with a quick message during these unsettled times we are all experiencing. Should you have any questions or queries with regards to VCC cancellations, scheduled events, etc, please feel free to contact me anytime by email or phone? I will be available to assist you as best I can. With no rallies or meetings to attend, there will be no tripping around the countryside for this 'old duck' I will be staying put. As well if this lockdown does go beyond four weeks, I will make an effort to phone each and every Branch Chairman to check with you that your members are all keeping well. Covid-19 It is official the Chairman and Committee of the Bay of Plenty Branch the hosts of the 'Highland Fling Rally', along, with us the organizers, and in consultation with the National President and the Management Committee, have made the tough call to cancel/postpone the Inaugural Highland Fling Rally until a later date. I do appreciate many of you will be very disappointed, however, the current crisis we are facing is very fluid, as the situation is significantly shifting daily. The Government announcement last evening to cancel all gatherings of 100 people, with the number of Covid-19 cases increasing, has compelled us the organizers to make this decision somewhat sooner than later. REFUND - I ask please that you supply your bank account details to me, and I will refund any monies you have paid. APPAREL - Those members who have ordered and paid for apparel from 'Robert Embroideries', please contact them directly with your bank account details, and they will provide you a refund.Phone: 06 358 6287 Many of the entrants of this Rally are in the age group that could be most affected by this pandemic; therefore, the cancellation of this event is nothing compared to your well-being and safety. I have recently received two messages from the National President about the Covid -19 Crisis. As you can see several events have been already cancelled.
Dear Members, National Office, myself and members of the Management Committee have been fielding questions about what we are going to do in relation to the VCC and events such as the NI Easter Rally, Executive Meeting, Highland Fling, 2021 International Rally and branch events such as Club nights. As you will all be aware, the situation is changing daily (or even hourly). It is important that we take our time to evaluate options and make the right decisions for our members rather than knee jerk reactions. I have been discussing options with the organisers of the NI Easter Rally, Highland Fling and 2021 Rally plus several Branch Chairman. I propose that we will wait until the end of the week before making any decisions (unless the situation drastically changes). The Government has advised that more guidance on smaller gatherings will be delivered later in the week. I am anticipating that the minimum number of people allowed in a group will probably be reduced from what it is currently. One of the issues is that there isn’t any definitive timeline of when this crisis will abate and so it makes it very difficult when thinking ahead, for instance regarding the 2021 Rally. We are monitoring the situation and more information will follow on the weekend. I am fully aware that a lot of our members fall into the high risk category in terms of this virus and if we have to make the hard decisions regarding postponement or cancellation of our events, then that is what we will do with a heavy heart but knowing that it is the right thing to do. Subject: MESSAGE FROM THE NZVCC PRESIDENT Dear Members, As you will be aware the COVID-19 crisis has had an impact on almost every aspect of life in New Zealand and the Vintage Car Club is no exception. This unprecedented and previously unimaginable situation is evolving daily, if not hourly.I sent an email out to branches on Tuesday advising that it was important that we took our time to evaluate options and to make the right decisions for our members, rather than knee jerk reactions.You will be aware that the Government has now issued a ban on groups exceeding 100 in number but that may be reduced further going forward. Expert advice is saying that the peak of the pandemic could possibly be as late as August.The Management Committee of the Vintage Car Club held an emergency meeting last night to discuss the crisis and the effects on upcoming national and branch events.In relation to the Vero International Festival of Historic Motoring, in conjunction with the Festival Director Greg Terrill, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the Festival until early 2022. This decision was not taken lightly. Due to the uncertainty around how long it will take for the pandemic to run its course and the potential of facing a financial loss, if due to lack of entries the event had to be cancelled, it is the right decision to make.The Executive Meeting which was due to be held in Wellington on Saturday 28 March is also cancelled and we have also decided that our National Day Daffodil Rally will also not go ahead for 2020.I also had no option yesterday but to cancel the National North Island Easter Rally and by now all entrants should have been directly contacted by the event organisers.During the next week or so we will be contacting the organisers of national events that are being held later this year and early next year to discuss what options we have in relation to those events. We will keep you posted on that.Because the International Rally will now not be held in 2021 it does give us room to move national events into next year.Some branches have already made the hard decision to cancel meetings, club nights, branch runs and events and even to postpone annual general meetings. A communication has gone out to all branches today with a strong recommendation that they also review all of their events with a view to cancelling or postponing them, at least until the end of June or until the situation improves.The club website and Facebook page along with branch websites will keep you updated and the next issue of Beaded Wheels will have up-to-date information as of going to print.I hope you understand the reason for these actions. Over half of our members are in the high risk bracket in terms of this pandemic. The cancellation of events now will mean that we’ve done our very best to keep our members safe.
