1898
The first imported motor cars arrive in New Zealand. Member of Parliament, William MacLean, imports two Benz vehicles from France, dubbed ‘Lightening and ‘Petrolette’.
1900
New Zealand’s first electric tram arrives.
1905
Two men complete the first car journey from Wellington to Auckland – taking seven days!

A farmers’ conference calls for vehicles of speeding motorist to be ‘locked out’ of 3rd and 4th gears to force them to slow down.

The Christchurch City Council imported their first Walker Electric Truck.
1931
With one car to every 7.1 persons, Wellington East is the most motorised place; with 12 persons per car, Wellington West and Auckland South are the least motorised.
1934
First national traffic census is undertaken.
1937
A Traffic Code is distributed to every home, motor association, all safety councils and others.
1940
Drivers 70 years-old and over must be re-tested to ensure they are still fit to drive.

I will require a vote from all members so it will be the members that decide not me. All the members need to put a yes or no on a slip of paper no names, so no one will know how you vote.

The second required is more participation, it is very disheartening when Suzanne or me or another member organise a Sunday run, film nite, fish n chips etc and will get the same half dozen or so turn up. We need more of a team effort, after all there is 60 or so members

We would like to offer your group the opportunity to come and have a look around our museum. We do group bookings for any number and at any time that suits. We are able to provide a cuppa and a biscuit for any groups that would like to, or we can do lunches at agreed costs. The charge to visit our museum is only $10.00 per head and includes the cuppa. We would love to be able to host your group.
Club Captains Report I hope you are all getting back to normal, what ever normal is! I must say I am finding it hard to get motivated to do anything, not a good space to be in. However the 157th anniversary of Henry Fords birthday is on the 30th of this month. I had hoped to organise a run etc, but the weather is not exactly the best to take out A treasured vintage car, not to mention a barbeque. So Barry has kindly offered to try and find a suitable film or documentary, or both, and we can have a film evening instead. Will e mail details shortly. The Ashburton Aviation Museum has group tours on offer at $10. per head plus a cuppa. This could be an interesting day out with a difference. We could have lunch at Ashford village, then continue on to the museum for the afternoon. This wouldn’t be a run as such, but those who wish to give their vintage car a blow out remember we will be on SH1. I hope to organise this for late August or sometime in September. As we will need to book for a tour of the museum l will need a rough idea of numbers, also for lunch at Ashford cafe . Please bear in mind I will not be chasing up members to register, so if you don’t contact me you will miss out. Regards and safe driving Suzanne. Celebration of Like for Ian Melton (Bluey). Correspondence;-Letter from community Link re volunteers morning tea 25/6, Thankyou letter from Melton family & to invite members to a memorial service at the T&C on 12th July. Quotations for Club Flag from Cosmic Windblades, Don Wakenshaws membership, A letter from Marc Pimm re Waimate High School Ball 19-09-20 asking if someone would supply a car to take his daughter. From Head Office Papers Registration forms etc for National AGM at Wanganui. Moved Lyndsay Hossack & Peter Hinde passed Treasurers Report;-as attached. Hall Convenor;-The Chairman, Steve reported that Margaret Rogers said that the plumber would come to fix the ladies toilet asap, catching up from lockdown. Scottish Country Dancing want to use clubrooms on Wednesday morning & Atkinson exercise group o Tuesday evening. Parts;-Keith said that they have been given a whole lot of scrap by Bruce Milne & are getting the loan of a truck & carting it through to Oamaru General;-Steve said that Robert Gibson has donated a Log Book for the Club’s Austin Car. Henry Ford Run, Steve said that the Club captain & other organisers were working on it & still hoping that it could be held close to the end of July. Ferguson Tractor, A lengthy discussion whether to sell ,, Motion, ‘That we sell the tractor’ Moved Peter Bootsma & Bill Ryan Passed, with 3 against, Lorraine & Owen Richardson & Richard Terry. Motion, ‘That the Ferguson be put up for tender.’ Moved Bill Ryan & Robert Todd, passed The meeting was remined that the 2 ton Crawler is in the late Ian Melton’s shed & the plough is down in his paddock on Wilkin St, to be collected. Swap meet 5-09-20 need an Organiser & helpers to arrange, left to next meeting. In lieu of the cancelled National Cancer Day, it was proposed that the Club organise something for that day, all agreed. Jonathan Dyson has donated a ‘Rheem’ water heater to replace one of the Zips. A photo shoot to be arranged of John Bell handing over the keys of the Austin Maxi to the Club. Trevor Holland requested that a letter of thanks be sent to the Davis Family for the donation of a series of car magazines. Next meeting 16-07-20 Meeting closed at 8-15pm for a coffee break, to be followed by the AGM
