October 1908, Ford introduced his company’s first car, the Model T. Throughout his career, Ford introduced the moving assembly line technique of mass production, the $5 workday, and afforded most Americans a chance to buy a car. By 1918, half of all the cars in America were Model Ts (Henry Ford Biography). Values, Morals, Philosophy, and Philanthropy Henry Ford placed great emphasis on respectability and did not tolerate any uncouth activities. The company’s “Social Department” monitored employees’ drinking, gambling, and family lives. Henry did not permit any uncivilized behavior to be associated with his company.

HI Everyone Even with the late start to the year, I feel we Are on top of things. The swap meet is well under way, with most of it organized We are going to have a day for the cancer society The same as on the Saturday last year with The b,b,q,at the market and a car display The classic car club are right behind it again so hopefully we will have another Successful day with a good turnout of cars Last meeting we had good turnout and had a Lot of positive comments, I would like to see this to continue,I would like all members with good Ideas for events, Sunday runs fun nights/days to Put pen to paper and write them down so we can discuss them at the meetings you can also email them to Suzanne or myself. If we keep going the way we have started we Will have a successful year THOUGHT FOR THE MONTH LIFE IS A SMALL GAP BETWEEN BIRTH AND DEATH SO IN THIS GAP BE HAPPY AND TRY TO MAKE OTHERS HAPPY------ ENJOY EVERY MOMENT

Club Captains Report The last monthly meeting netted some good suggestions from the floor, and all are worth consideration. On Sunday 2nd August we have an afternoon to celebrate the 157th birthday of Henry Ford with a couple of videos, and afternoon tea, if possible please bring a plate. Starting at 1pm The next event is the swap meet and car boot sale on Saturday 5th September. If you want a site contact either Steve or me to reserve a place. A visit to the Ashburton Aviation museum is planned for a Sunday in October. We will need to have an idea of numbers to book a tour of the museum, and for lunch at the Ashford Cafe. Then I can set a date, so contact me this month if you are interest. Murray Dempster has a collection of war memorabilia, and also some interesting rifles etc, and he would be pleased to show us around his small museum. We will wait until the weather is much warmer, probably in November. This won’t interest a lot of you, but is certainly worth a look.
Garage # 6 1960 Chev Bel Air , Harley Davidson late model , Comaro , T bucket , Solex motorbike , Old flat v8 on a stand , running ( music to the ears) Petrol pumps, oil engines and lots of collectibles. Garage # 7 3. Very and rare collectible cars , 1923 Diatto from Italy , 1913 DeDion Bouton from France , 1923 Ansaldo from Italy . Garage # 8 This was the workshop for the restoration of the steam trains in Oamaru. Here they are restoring on a large level , a passenger railway carriage . We were able to look at the following engines : D5 A , 234 , TR35 , Bio Hudswell from Clarke & Co Ltd Leeds UK 1924 . Lunch was much appreciated the annual Pea , Pie & Pud. Damned good pies , if I say so myself. Followed by a compulsory stop at both Glenavy Pub and Studholme Hotel on the way home. A great day , with great people . Very enjoyable indeed . Oamaru Garage RAID 18.7.2020 I cruised down with Noel Frew , in his Comaro . Pretty cool. Quick drink at the Club rooms, lots of people there. Then we were on the road to Garage # 1 Here was a restored Morris Minor Van , and work in progress on a low light Morris Minor Convertible. Hoping to have it finished before the end of the year. Garage # 2 Lovely shed and restoration area , a credit to the owner. Vehicles to look at and under restoration were : 1930 Model A Tudor restored. 1974 Falcon 500 Restored , 1958 Wolseley 1500 , 1958 Wolseley 690 almost ready to drive , Wolseley 1550 ( rough ) and a 1936 Wolseley sedan and last but not least a 1970 MGB Mark 2. Garage # 3 Here we found a 1973 Mitsubishi Galant GT2000 , 1955 Chev Truck 1500wt , Another 1955 Chev Truck , a 1956 , 1300 Chev Truck , 1955 thrift master Chev truck. 1958 Chev Belair sedan ,immaculate. 1967 Chev impala sedan also immaculate. 1953 Morris Minor soft top , 2 Ex Army jeeps 4 x 4’s , and number of motorbikes. Garage # 4 All beautifully presented in this garage . 1967 Ford Mustang , 1987 Falcon S , 1968 Hillman Imp , 1956 karrier Van . 1916 Willys Tourer , 1932 Hillman Max , 1952 Hillman Max Mark 4 . You Always Do What You've Always Done, You'll Always Get What You've Always Got.” ~ Henry Ford Firstly welcome to our new secretary and thank you for stepping into the role, I know Owen will be pleased(although you have done a great job Owen….) in regards to the Chairman dilemma I think we have an opportunity to maybe do things a little different. The club can either run as a Team or it can run with a strong Chairman leading, but as we have seen in the past when you have a strong Chairman(or Woman) the club gets relaxed and makes the chairman do most of the work or come up with the ideas….. so maybe it’s time for a change. Now this may seem radical but how about making some big-ish changes?? First have no set Chair person, Secondly make the General meeting bi monthly, Feb, April, June, Aug,Oct,Dec. The Newsletter could also be bi monthly and hence twice the size…Make June solely the AGM, and Dec the Christmas party/break up. This means you only have 4 meetings to organise and choose 4 people each year who chair a quick set meeting, then have to organise something Car Related for an hour, like a movie night, or a guest speaker, pizza night, quiz night etc etc so the meetings are fun and entertaining. I would be happy to be one of the 4 even if it was every year…..Every 3 years we host a charity auction this could be in July to fill in the year. On the alternate months, the committee made up of Secretary, Treasurer, Vice Chairman, Club captain, hall room convener, Newsletter editor, and 1 from Parts get together for a Team meeting round the table with coffee and a set agenda(could even be at a café) for an hour and do the business. January could be a planning meeting setting dates etc and the committee set who will do the four meetings and hand pick people to do the Rally, Swap Meet etc. With a good secretary and good set agendas and plans the club could run as a team…… By not having a set Chair, maybe it will make others feel they need to step up…….. While Steve has done a good job, I think to stay with the status quo would just lead to a slow decline…….What are your thoughts???? Regards Peter Bootsma Project Manager
