Motorcycle Report A good turn out with 10 bikes comprising one AJS (being run in with a rebuilt engine), one BSA, two Hondas , one Matchless, one Moto Guzzi, one Norton , one Royal Enfield, one Triumph, one Yamaha and 2 pillion passengers. It was pleasing to see Brian brought his grandson on the bike run . Chairman Ron was there to see us off as we rode off around 1.20pm heading south on SH1 to the Maungapai turn off carried through to Maungakaramea heading across Weki road. One of our fellow riders had a break down and I was one of the group that went to help rescue the rider. Unfortunately I needed to be rescued myself with a broken wire to the battery powerless thanks to Peter and Cam for the use of extra tools I learnt a valuable lesson with the difference in strength caused by vibration between soldered wiring and crimped wires and what extra equipment to carry in the future. This event only reinforced my appreciation of riding in the NVCC bike section where we all look out for one another on bike rides. Now back to the ride once we sorted out these small problems we rode on to Whatatiri road and we encountered all those wondrous things you do on country roads there had been some light rain so we were being careful and came around a corner to the sight of several large cattle being herded in our general direction time to put brakes on is quite breath taking the young guys leading the cattle were doing a great job keeping them together and waved us through and we headed up to Poriti to meet and discuss the events of the ride as per usual once this concluded we departed and went our separate ways A great days riding with the weather getting warmer hope to see more riders next month. Dargaville Doings
On Saturday 5th October, 6 cars from our area, along with vintage cars from Wellsford/Warkworth, parked in the display area in front of the Matakohe Museum on their Settler’s Day celebration. Many hands-on activities throughout the museum and outside, kept the children and adults alike, well entertained. Our midweek run, set by Bill Fitness, took us to Warwick Savage’s work shop where he moulds, virtually anything in plastic. Warwick makes all his own moulds and tools and he is currently making small racing boats, about 20cm long, an international recognised class.
We went onto Kevin Morris who has a 8000 plus bottle collection, ranging from large carboys to miniature perfume bottles, all colours, shapes and sizes.
We sat in his shed kitchen area for afternoon tea, looking out over the farm land and valleys, and away to Tutamoe. Thank you Bill for an entertaining afternoon. On Sunday 20th, 5 cars were on display to support the Dargaville Museum Open Day. Next month we meet on Wednesday 20th November, 1pm at the Boating Club Car Park. Combined Clubs’ Northland Daffodil Rally

The 1914 Jewett is enormous and the absolute centre of attention at Wednesday Shed Day on its first outing. This is an excellent restoration and, most importantly, Arthur is delighted with it. “I got the Clancy/Young experts on to the upholstery and hood job,” said Arthur. B.C.

October Club Run Arthur’s October rally was very well attended on a fantastic day. Peter Meares rolled up in his back-on-the-road, very high-interest, 1934 ‘Bustle-Back, two-seater, Morris Minor. Peter has owned the car for years, and now it’s ready to rally. I should point out here that this is not a big car. The entrance doors are tiny. In hindsight it might have been better for Peter to appoint a more agile navigator . . . one whose joints had been in for a service. “Come on” ordered Pete. “Get in. We have to go first.”

so we gurgled off up the long Maunu slope with navigator firing out a stream of rally instructions from the sheet. That 850cc Morris engine is quite nuggetty and willing. It likes to work, and when Peter ‘asks it the question’ there is a response, especially down hill, wind assisted.. SO - no problems all day. A really excellent drive, which must be very satisfying for Peter who had singlehandedly trailered the Morris the 1000kms.home from Golden Bay recently. Thanks for the ride Pete. New Plymouth Motorcycle Rally 2019 Left Whangarei towing bike behind the bus on Friday at 7.30am and after several diesel stops arrived New Plymouth Top 10 at 4.30pm. Big meet up with everyone for dinner, soup chicken spuds and vegs. Followed by ice cream, yaaa. After a blustery night New Plymouth surprised us with a perfect day. Sunshine, no wind and a wonderful view of the mountain. First part of the rally was going to be slow through the forest to the first check point with the usual silent checks on the way. Morning tea at Okato hall. After the ½ hour morning tea stop time was to be made up on the long straight roads until Kaponga which was the end of the timed section and from there to the lunch stop there were only silent checks. The lunch stop was at the Tawhiti Military Museum this was also the end of the rally and sooooo wonderful to be able to actually eat outside. The museum viewing cost $15 each, but was value for money. Could have stayed there for hours. The exhibits were varied and interesting especially the models depicting the Maori wars, coal mining, farming, early century clothing etc. The models varied in size varied from 2 inches to life size and depending on the scene. They were all hand painted. there were hundreds of them including people, horses, dogs, trees, and full sized figures. We spoke to the owner, to keep himself busy he makes all the figures, trains buildings and furniture. Fascinating On leaving we had a route to follow which took us right around the mountain through Eltham, Stratford, and Englewood etc then back to Top 10 motor camp. The Rally overall was 119 Miles (for some) Dinner and prize giving was held at the Beach Street hall Fitzroy. Same caterers as last year, they put on a wonderful dinner.
