Chairmans Report Well, that’s another calendar year gone by, it makes one wonder where the time has gone. We have had a fairly successful year and our membership continues to grow while other clubs have a declining membership. A car run every month and they have been good runs, mixed numbers and everybody who has participated has enjoyed themselves. The motorcycle group also have a run at the beginning of every month and I have been there to see them off whenever I was able to. A good team of like minded individuals who just enjoy their machines and getting out and using them and long may it continue. The Parts Team under Lawrence's guidance have been steadily working on getting the parts shed a lot tidier and keeping the club vehicles clean and in running order. The stock continues to be replenished by donations from individuals and businesses and also adds to the clubs coffers from sale of parts. Besides that it has proved to be a good social environment and morning tea is a great time to discuss a variety of topics. Brian Wrack has beavered away on the 29 Chev truck motor mostly on his own and it now has had a overhaul and is knock free for the first time for years. Thanks Brian. Lynora Reilly has persevered with the library and with the help of Lou and Peter and a few others it is looking better than it has for years. Recently we held a working bee to scrub the walls, ceiling and trim and it was nearly all committee members with some others so thanks to them. It would have been nice to see some more general club members there as well, maybe next time. Trevor Reilly has done a great job over a number of years in not only managing the Clubrooms bookings, but continuing to keep it looking good. Most people don’t realise how hard he works at this and between him and Lynora they put a lot of time into the club. Donna deserves a big pat on the back for reviving the Rattles and Squeaks and it is now a magazine to be proud of. Thank you to the regular contributors as it keeps us all up to date on what is happening. Most people wouldn’t know but in behind the scenes Lynora Reilly (and Trevor) get all the paper copies collated and sent to those few members who don’t have an email address. That is quite a lot of work and it would make it much easier if we could just email to everybody, but they do this without any thanks in most cases. The first Wed of the month morning teas are getting more popular and we are seeing people at them who we never see at any other time. In fact they are getting so popular that we could do with a few more plates of morning tea food as the same few who bring it along every time are finding it harder to stretch it out. If you haven’t been to one of these then it's time you did, good people and lots of interesting conversation. Since daylight saving started again we have started our third Friday Dinner meetings again. In January as it has 5 Fridays it is actually on the 4th Friday the 24th and we have guest speakers so come along with your BYO dinner from 5:30pm onwards. BBQ is available. Feb it is back to normal on the 3rd Friday 21st. Great to see the regulars but plenty of room for more. Having a full committee has certainly helped this year. We have a really good team. A fairly new committee and Ans first role as secretary, a bigger job that she thought it would be but she has settled into it nicely. Keith in his Club Captains role has ensured a variety of events have happened and been set by more than just a few of us. The last one, our Christmas lunch and gymkhana went well and the organizers did a great job in setting up some fun events. Our annual calendar events, the Swap-meet and Car-show, the Motorcycle national event and the Far North Tour all went extremely well. These are all all run by a very small team for each event and do involve a lot of work for a few individuals without in many cases any recognition from the bulk of the club members. In behind every one of these events is Christine Garden who for the first time for years is not on the committee but still works harder than most on these important club events. A big thanks is owed to her for this. As a club member, how about doing your bit for the club by putting your hand up to help with one of these events next time we run them. I’m sure you will get more satisfaction by helping that just standing on the sideline thinking "its OK, somebody else will do it". Lofty Salter as our website guru has updated the calendar on the website and it now shows events planned through to July 2020.
On a personal note, I have a couple of surgical events coming up which are going to require some recuperation time so I may not be available for some events for the beginning of the year. Coming up in March is the next NZ VCC executive meeting and as I will not be able to attend this, Lou Schoenmakers as the deputy Chair and Ans as Secretary will be attending this on the clubs behalf. Finally I would like to thank all of you who have contributed to the club over the year. Firstly the committee, a great group of members who run the club and dedicate their time without complaint. All the members who have helped in some small way with the running of an event or just by turning up and participating in an event. I’m sure I will have missed many of you who deserve thanks but to one and all a heartfelt thanks for just being part of it. It takes all of us to make a great club so let's all be part of it. “Last of the Summer Wine Picnic”
Sunday 12th January. Gather at the Clubrooms by 10.30am. Come rain, hail or shine. This is a fun picnic so please come wearing something to depict a character from the “Last of the Summer Wine” TV show. We will rally to the venue where there are plenty of trees and shelter if the sun is not shining. Bring picnic food and drink, chairs etc . Library Report WOW! At the Committee meeting 28/11/19 I asked for a date for a working bee to spring clean the Library. It was done! I wrote an advertisement and submitted it to the Editor for printing in Rattles and Squeaks. It was done! From 9am onwards 07/12/19 the Team arrived carrying equipment to suit their size. I asked that the ceiling be washed with a mop. The walls with a cleaner from bottom to top. It was done! Each member who came took a section of wall. And completed the task – books and all. It was done! Vents and surrounds be scrubbed and cleaned. All windows polished until they gleamed. Any books in the way be dusted and wiped. Put to one side while their shelves got a swipe. And when all was pristine. The books be returned to their place in the scheme. It was done! The Librarian promised a cup of tea with biscuits and all. It was done! Targa 2019 VCC Time Trial. This year's event was most successful involving 40 VCC entrants & support crew from 11 VCC branches throughout New Zealand. As with last year, several entrants joined the VCC specifically to enter the Targa time trial, and the enthusiasm from some of the new & younger members was most heartening. Motorcycle Report Motorcycle ride 1st December 2019 An early start this month with an 8:30am breakfast a Serenity Cafe (town basin), a good turnout for breakfast with 3 partners that don’t ride also attending for breakfast ( awesome to see them ) and Chairperson Ron to see us off. This ride was organised by Errol Gray who also handed out Orange Vests which had been donated to us from Northland Road Safety. A 9:30am start with 14 Bikes from modern Moto Guzzi to 1952 Matchless, the destination was Warkworth by 11:30 to a Motorcycle workshop. Lofty gave a riders briefing with the first stop to be Kaiwaka to re-group. A quick change of spark plug for one of the Matchless as it got onto SH1 and a trouble free ride to Kaiwaka and then the next stop at the traffic lights carpark at Warkworth. The bikes had no trouble keeping up with the normal traffic flow on SH1 between 85 to 95 Kph. A short ride to Donn’s Classic Motorcycles having many imported Norton, Triumph and BSA from the USA and a couple of motorcycles up on workbenches under repair. After an interesting general talk on what they do and a look at the bikes we made our way to Matakana to have lunch, ( we changed our plans to have lunch at Warkworth as the line off traffic was over 5 Kms long trying to get through the traffic light at SH1 ) After lunch at Rusty Pelican we headed north following the Matakana Valley road ( with no instruction) . The first group must have taken a wrong turn while heading towards Mangawhai Heads and ended up behind Lorraine and Robert doing tail end Charlie. Robert’s phone rang as we approached the roundabout at Ruakaka , the call was from Peter Lovatt, “Where are you” he said, we are at Waipu Cove and Don Points has broken down. We returned to Waipu Cove to pick up Don’s bike. A good day out was had by all I think, we have had a few good comments about the day. So thanks to all who put time in to organise the day. Robert and Lorraine Young. Tail End Charlie’s. PS. Other minor breakdowns were Lofty who left the start and his bike stopped due to the petrol tap not being turned on. On the way home Brian Taylors throttle cable broke off. Adam ‘s speedo mounting broke off and Simon Clearwaters battery and box fell off and bounced across the road.

Club Captain’s report Well it is Xmas again not that long since the last one!! December Sunday 8th event went well and it was great to see such a good turnout. Nice to see new members and older Members that we haven’t seen for a while. Great company, good food and an interesting gymkhana. Wind & sponges caused some upsets. Thanks to the Club Members who did all the work. Our next event will be Claudia's January Sunday 12th 2020. Gosh doesn’t seem that long ago we ushered in the new 20-00s. Wish You all a Merry Xmas & hopefully a prosperous new Year. Keith
