Secretary’s scribblings Well February is already coming up fast, and I’m half organized to go to Wellington together with Lou in March as representors of our club to the Executive Meeting. Really looking forward to meet with the people I have until now only known via the phone or email. I will write a report here when I have come back. For now I like to remind you that you all should have received your new BLUE Membership card, if not, then you have to get onto this quick otherwise you lose your continues membership and you will have to apply again for your membership. You need to be a member if you insure your Vehicle and/or House and Contend with VERO. Also don’t forget to go for your Suppliers to Kamo Parts and tell them that you’re a member from the Northland Vintage Car Club to get your discount. If you have moved house, Changed Phone number, or E-mail Address. Please let me know on northland@vcc.org.nz so I can sent the changes through to head office. The entry forms for the Easter Rally and the Taupo Country Road Rally are on the Notice board. If you need one I can make you a copy. I also put one up from a company “The Ball Joint Doctor” in Coves Harbour AUS. You can get replacements for antique or very old steering and suspension Ball Joints, Bushes and Components. I can make a copy from that to. There was some confusion in the Recent Beaded Wheels of the date of this year's Swap Meet from the Wellsford/ Warkworth Branch, the correct date, is February 29th. New Members: This month we welcome Linda and John Pattinson from Omapere to our Club. They own a 1972 Chrysler Valiant this is the car Linda’s dad, Stu McCully owned. We hope to meet you soon at one of our events. Claudia has a lot of photos from our last Club run, “Last of the summer wine”. If you like to have copies, from you having tea, or the guy’s outside at the black smith, let me know and we can send them to you in an e-mail. There are also photos from the picnic. Dargaville Doings
Last month, as is usual at Christmas time, we combine the monthly meeting and midweek run to a take-away tea meeting, and this year, followed with a fun night. The ‘meeting’ decided on the trophies for the year. Club Person – George Tier Mechanic of the Year – Bruce Jeffery Hard Luck – Doug & Bev Grant Night Rally – Ngaire & Rob Wade Golden Nut – Rob Wade Monthly ‘Senior Moment’ cups – Brian Wrack and Doug Grant Next the eagerly awaited Christmas desserts, and what a selection to behold. Von and Claudia had planned a few games to entertain. Team leaders, Doug and Barry chose their members for the first task – to see who could build the highest tower using the supplied box of blocks. Team Doug won this one. Next, they were given a bag of beads, fishing line and instructions as to the colour order to be threaded. Again Team Doug prevailed. In the last team game they had a balloon pump and a ping pong ball and each member had to blow the ball along the floor around a marker back to the next one. Team Barry took line honours. The last ‘highlight’ was for all – sit in a circle and pass the parcel. Everyone had to open a layer and find the name of a vehicle which they had to match with a labelled bag. The bag contained certain items of attire which they had to put on. Much hilarity. See photo! This month we took a picnic tea to the Reserve at Maungaraho Rock and spent a pleasant Sunday evening with friends. Great to see three generations of the Wade family joining the group. FEBRUARY – Meeting at 7.30pm - 12th at the Dargaville Aero Club, Hoanga Road. Mid-week Run – Wednesday 19th starting at 1pm at the NW Boating Club Car Park. Bring your afternoon tea, chairs etc. All the mid-week runs usually start at 1pm on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, except September which is an all-day ‘Birthday ’outing. The NVCC Spares Shed In the past our Northland Vintage Car Club membership has relied on the parts shed for the assistance in making our vehicle an object of beauty and action. Over the last few years the layout and sorting of donated and gifted parts has changed. Similar items are now boxed together and are in catalogued spaces. The work has been carried out by a group of dedicated members, who meet on a Wednesday morning and are there on the last Saturday of the month. This is to ensure all other members of our club and affiliated clubs have the option of finding, sorting out and purchasing parts to suit their needs. The sorting of vehicle parts is only one part of the use of these premises and of these days. The club vehicles are also maintained and kept operational by this dedicated band of knowledgeable enthusiasts. The best bit is that it brings “others” to the club rooms parts shed for technical assistance, to hear stories of days of old and to share the problems of life, as the participants see them. Some of the solutions raised in these sessions, over the cup of tea or coffee, may not be very practicable but give an insight as to how others may see the problem. At times the number of bums on chairs does leave little space to walk through. There is always room for more. So if a member needs some part of a vehicle, is looking for some company or just wants to make contact with like minded persons, feel to join the others on the premises during the open times. Those present, who have a world of knowledge between them and who are willing to share that knowledge will make you welcome. Open

Waipu Car & Bike Show Hi to all NVCC members, Just making you aware of the Waipu Lions Car and Bike Show. This is Waipu’s big car event of the year. Last year we had 600 plus cars and 160 bikes turn up. I am involved as a Waipu Volunteer Fire Fighter and also as a Waipu Lion member. A portion of the proceeds to go to The Waipu Volunteer Brigade this year. All the proceeds go back to the Waipu and Bream Bay community. If you are interested in coming along as a group please let me know, and as long as you turn up together I should be able to arrange for the members to park together. . Entry is free to car and driver. There will be food stalls and the day starts around 0900hrs but please be early as it takes a while to get through the grid lock and to register and park your cars and will finish around 1400 to 1500hrs. The lions Mussel fritter are always popular if you are in quickly. Ron Dixon
Library Report We are at last seeing folk wander over to look in the library – most have made positive comments about the changes in terms of the presentation from by the door. Some can be persuaded in for a closer look – Hurrah! But best yet we have had a couple of members come in, find the book they wanted and with help they have photocopied pages they need to take away. Other folk have discovered that when they find the book they want, it is very easy to “check it out” and at a later date to “check it back in again” The Team continue with the sorting of the different categories of books – with the aim to have each section in alphabetical order. (at the same time as checking the book condition) This is being done shelf by shelf so will take some time to complete. However, if you would like to adopt a shelf or a section of the Library, the library Team would be very pleased to have you join them – contact Lynora - ph 435 6366 We still have most of the Back wall to do – this is the magazine collections area. Club Captain’s report Well the festive season is drawing to a close and most are going back to work. Hope everything went well. We are into a new decade. Where did the last one go? Car Club wise Claudia's event went well & great turnout. Thanks Claudia. Also Thanks must go to Club Members Alan & Rosalee Jessop. Good venue & interesting shed & workshop. Next Run is to Bert & Judy Parishes beach bach. First time Marion & I have been to this location . So there are still new places to discover. Event is on Sunday 9th February Leaving from NVCC Clubrooms Kiwi North Assemble at 10-00am Leave 10-30 am, bring everything for a picnic . Water & toilet available at venue. Also good shade . The main M/C rally is getting near as is our Swapmeet . Well that's it from me. Cheers Keith.
Spares Report Greetings and best wishes for 2020 from the Spares and Vehicle team. Over the last two months we have been working on the club vehicles. We decided to look at the Club's Model T truck, (Kuitai) as it has not been going for a while. After a bit of work we managed to get it running although not that well. Talk about the blind leading the blind, my knowledge of Model Ts is very slight, I was not really sure how to drive it. Luckily, Rob Hughes was on hand and has had a bit to do with Model Ts and was able to give us some pointers. After a short drive it was was running so bad that it was hard to decide if the transmission was functioning properly. However, a spark plug clean and an adjustment of the mixture the engine was running smoothly again. The next drive was much more encouraging and the gearbox worked well. We were fortunate to have a visit from Roy London who is a Model T guru. He checked the band adjustments and took it for a short drive and said that it was running fine. Bruce Cossen has kindly donated a couple of solar powered trickle charges to the club. The spares have two 6v batteries, a big one which Brian has recently acquired for the Chev truck. This one we can use in the Chev, the Model T and the V8 truck. The other one is a small one which fits the Austin 7. The problem we have is that because of lack of use these batteries tend to not last too long. I am reluctant to use a normal trickle charger in the shed as I do not want to leave the power on in the shed when we are not there. If the solar powered charges that Bruce has given us work OK it could solve the problem. We are most grateful to Bruce for his generosity. The Wednesday mornings are going well and are really well supported, with a steady movement of parts being sold. Don’t forget that we are open on the last Saturday every month from 2pm to 4.30, feel free to come in and have a browse and a chat.
