Chairman’s Report: Moving the Old Parts Container Sunday 31st October We pulled and pushed the old parts container level with the new one. Thanks to David Bryson on his big yellow machine and Peter Hadley with his tirfor winch and much grunting and lifting with jacks it was soon in the position Steve wanted. Thanks to all those who helped on the day. Ohiwa Campout with Gisborne Friday 5th – Sunday 6th November This year it was our turn to host the Annual Get-together with the Gisborne Branch. However Gisborne had a weather emergency and some had to pull out of travelling over to the Ohiwa Holiday Motor Camp. Four cars from Gisborne were able to be with us at the camp, Ray Squires, Rod Clague, Gavin and Helen Leckner and Robert and Marie Moffit, which meant we couldn’t get the trophy by default, we had to fight for it. Thirty of our Members joined in some part of the weekend. Karen and Mark set the run, which saw us in and out of Opotiki, up hills, down dales, in and out of no exit roads, up a dirt track to a computer controlled milking shed, I think one of only three in NZ which probably wouldn’t work if the cows weren’t as smart as they are. We, that is Gail and I got a bit bamboozled toward the end of the run, probably our fault as others managed to find their way around without too much trouble. It was a great run Mark and Karen, give yourselves a pat on the back. The meals and breakfast all went very smoothly as did the raffles and prize-giving (results are elsewhere in the magazine). Thanks to all of those that helped in some way to make this weekend so great, without you all mucking in it wouldn’t happen. Mid-week Run On the 17th Harry and Gay arranged a run to Okere Falls and lunch at the local cafe. Unfortunately Gail and I couldn’t be there, but there were 13 Members there who enjoyed the day. November Club Night and Pizza Dinner On the last Club Night for the year, Joy had suggested we have a Pizza dinner night, we had 23 Members sit down for pizza and dessert, a very enjoyable end to the year, once again thanks to all of those that helped with the chores. It would be good if we had a Club Captain to write these little stories and I could maybe write something more serious, but I guess that wouldn’t work as I don’t know anything serious except Covid 19. So on the serious note At our November Club Night a motion was proposed and seconded that those attending any of our Branch Events must be double vaccinated. This was passed with a majority for and none against. This is in line with the Government’s new traffic light system coming into effect soon and also to protect ourselves and families. A message has been sent out to all of those wishing to enter our East Coast Rally, that they must be double vaxed. There won’t be any parades this year because of Covid, but Harry and Gay’s BYO lunch at their place on Saturday 18th December will be our last event for the year. It is always a great afternoon so I hope to see you there. If not, you and your family have a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year and let’s hope we can keep Covid at bay and get back to something that life used to be like, but in the meantime keep driving those old vehicles.
