Chairman’s Report: As mentioned last month, some Members may be due a Service Badge. if you joined before 1996 you will be. However some of Membership Applications, Meeting Minutes and other Branch Documents seem to have been lost for the late 1990’s to the early 2000’s, so our Archivist is unable to help with joining dates. Please give Karen or myself a call if you think you are due a badge or if you have an idea what has happened to this paperwork. A couple of TV shows you may be interested in – maybe some Members already watch them, but for those that don’t they are on ‘Face TV’ Channel 83 on Sky Friday nights 7.30pm onwards, ‘REV’ then ‘Classic Restos’ then ‘The Hot Rod Show’. ‘Classic Restos’ is quite interesting, it is an Australian show of Classic Cars mostly Holden’s and Ford’s and a few others, Hot Rods etc. It’s a good watch. The other one is ‘The Hot Rod Show’ a New Zealand Production with Co-Host Doug Bell from Waimana. He is the most enthusiastic Petrol Head I have ever seen on TV or live. Although Hot Rods are not necessarily for me, it interests me on what these enterprising people can design and make. As for Doug Bell, the show is worth watching just for his enthusiasm and knowledge of Hot Rods and Custom Cars. It would be great if we could take a leaf out of his book, some day, somehow. Drive Safe Les Jonathon White 12/09/1938 – 17/07/2021 Jonathon was a Foundation Member of our Branch Sadly he passed away on Saturday 17th July Long time Members will remember him and his Vintage Rolls Royce Mangakino Hop Saturday 10th July 7 Members cars made the trek to Mangakino for the Lake Hop. 4 cars entered the display at $20 per car and I don’t know, but a guess would be over 400 cars on display, plus spectators cars, who would know, but if the organisers had charged a gold coin donation they would have made a fortune for their charity. There were a great range of vehicles on display, most of them Classics and Modern Classics, Custom Cars and an assortment of Vintage era vehicles and Hot Rods. The three diesel powered motor bikes fabricated out of ‘whatever’ the builder had around at the time and what was going through his head allowed them to build these masterpieces of engineering. I could go on forever, but I won’t. As we headed home a little early, I wonder what it was like getting out of Mangakino when the show was over. Mangakino certainly put on a great show. Well done.

Ohiwa Camp Out. Our annual get together with the Gisborne Club. You are welcome to come to all or part of this event. It is based at the Ohiwa Motor Camp. They have motels, cabins, caravan and tent sites. If you don't have a vintage on the road, come along to Club Runs in your modern
Mark Spackman has come across mechanical parts for a 1928 Dodge including engine, gearbox etc. The current owner has converted the car into a hot rod so has quite a bit of surplus parts. Ph Mark 021 176 6629 Midweek Runs are temporarily on hold due to the number of local and away events happening.

WHAT NOW: A couple of weeks ago I had a phone call from a lady that said she was from ‘What Now’. I said “that’s a kids programme on TV you’ve got the wrong age group”. She stopped me from waffling on and st said that they would be filming in Opotiki on the 1 of August and would like a Vintage Car for the presenter. To cut a long story short, I gave her Mark and Karen’s number to ring. Mark and Karen took up the challenge and presented their Hudson to ‘What Now’ for filming at Opotiki at 7.30am on Sunday morning. Thanks Mark and Karen for taking your time on behalf of the Vintage Car Club to display your beautiful Hudson to half the kids in New Zealand. Maybe it will inspire some kids in the future to want to own a Vintage Car. Les
