Chairman’s Report: What do you know, the end of another month, time to write a few lines of encouragement to drive and enjoy your old or classic vehicle. The Branch has mostly two runs a month, Harry and Gay generally arrange a run in the middle of the month to a cafe or picnic spot, a scenic drive or a place of interest, it is very popular with Members with between 8 – 12 cars on the day. So if you are at a loose end on a Wednesday in the middle of the month, look out for the mid-week run and join in with us. Each month we also have a Sunday run the same as the mid-week runs to a picnic spot or place of interest with sometimes a little competition thrown in, with quite regularly 15 cars. If you don’t have your old car on the road, bring along your modern, people are most important, cars are a means of getting there. Then on the first Sunday of every second month we attend the Classic Car Breakfast at the Red Barn, we regularly have 10 of our Branch Cars at the event with Classics from other car enthusiasts and Clubs. Come along for breakfast or a coffee or just to look at the many different Classic Cars parked up and it is another excuse to drive our old or classic vehicle. Then we have all the other things going on ‘The East Coast Rally’ ‘Night Owl Run’ ‘Rally for Cancer - Daffodil Run’ ‘Christmas Parades’ etc. Jump in your old or classic vehicle sometime and join in with us, we would love to see you and I am sure you will enjoy it. The March VCC Executive Meeting: I was not involved, so I don’t have too much information. The “proposed new Logo” didn’t go ahead with 18 Branches against the new Logo and 10 Branches for, with 7 votes from Management, the count was 18 votes against and 17 votes in favour. So the current ‘Wings Logo’ remains. The Cancer Society (Daffodil Day) will be held on the 21st August this year. I see that there were 537 new Members in the last year and the Club has 26,126 vehicles on their data-base. Our Branch AGM: Don’t forget our AGM is coming up in May, all positions are available, it you think you may like to become a Member of the Committee in the coming year, fill out the ‘Nomination Form’ that you will find on page 3 in the mag. If you don’t fancy a Committee Position, there are those Ancillary Positions that help keep the Branch ticking over. On Sunday 11th March Steve and Joy took us on a run to Lake Okataina, via the back roads of Manawahe, skinny roads with plenty of dust, which was great for the old cars, with plenty of good scenery (we should use these great old roads more often). After a picnic at Lake Okataina, Harry and Gay lead us to a school camp and took us on a walk to a waterfall about 1km in the forest, unfortunately the waterfall had very little water because of the drought in that neck of the woods. They said at night the waterfall is alight with glow worms. We saw this small bird that we couldn’t identify, check out that photo on page 6, maybe you know what it is. At our March Club Night it was moved that we rescind the double vaccination position the Branch took at the November Meeting. This was voted on with a majority for and one against. So we can now get back to normal with all Members vac’s or not able to attend all of our events indoors or outdoors. Sadly, we note the passing of one of our Branch’s founding Members, Tom Woodham. Condolences to Tom’s family. RIP, a true gentleman. Drive Safe Les .1.
