Chairmans Report - AGM 2021 - I am very pleased to present this report for the 66th AGM of the Wanganui Branch of the NZ Vintage Car Club. - This time last year things were quite different with Coronavirus 19 affecting everything. - Club nights have been well supported and we have had some very interesting guest speakers and entertainment over the last year. (We are always looking for more.) - Rallies are continuing to attract good numbers. New Year’s Day Rally, Taihape, Castrol Motorcycle Rally, Burma Rally/ Vintage Weekend over 4 days now, annual rally and Daffodil Rally were all well supported. This year’s Vintage Weekend was well received by competitors, the general public and visitors to Whanganui. Record numbers and, once again, the city was abuzz for the four days, 55 entrants on my Monday, Bruce’s Run. - We have had very interesting Sunday outings every month thanks to Frank J and members who have taken the time to organise these events for the members. - Club membership continues to grow and we have had some interesting people and vehicles come into the branch. - Club room improvements have continued over the last 12 months and the six monthly working bees keep everything spic and span for the visitors and members. - To my committee, Club members, volunteers, supporters, advertisers, and sponsors, a big thank you for all the wonderful support you have given me over the last year and hope all will continue to do so. VCC Executive meeting 20 March 2021 1.
Executive meeting in March is mainly reporting , plus checking on Policies decided on previously. There were 11 apologies from Branches that were unable to attend.
2. LONG SERVICE AWARDS - The number of 50 year badges continue to grow – up to 380 now. There have also been 56 60 year badges awarded. Our membership continues to age and in discussions later delegates gave their views on gaining new members. 3. South Island and North Island Club Captains reports were presented. North Island CC report highlighted the Highland Fling - a number of our branch members will have attended it by now. The National Day – Cancer Society event for 22 August is now under Kaaren’s guidance. 4. REGISTRAR’s report from Rod Brayshaw is always interesting - VIC applications continue - now up to 12017 … Shane has recently completed VIC applications for non members - one especially will result in a new member for the Branch. But more importantly the Card is recognised by those testing for WOF and should assist us in keeping our vehicles on the road. It is important that photos supplied be the correct size for the cards. Instructions are given on the form. 5. REGISTRAR – outlined the new group “Vehicles of Potential Interest” These will probably be between 20 and 30 years old , low mileage with significant history - They will receive a DOMAS for identification for future historical records. 6. REGISTRAR – 6 month WOF is still being discussed - VCC and the NZ Federation of motoring clubs are endeavouring to gain 12 month WOF. 7. VERO INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL. Report confirmed entry fee – and the entry form is now available on line. Members can either get to the site through the VCC website or direct - https://www.historicmotoring.co.nz/registration/. I tried as soon as it was announced only to find that the Branch list was not complete – this has since been corrected. Please register early – and also confirm your accommodation bookings. We were assured that Veterans would be catered for – over the 5 days . 8. VCC FACEBOOK - there has been good support , currently 2484 member - and our own Branch Facebook is also well supported. 9. ON LINE Membership – a notice of motion was tabled and discussed. It will be voted of at the AGM in August. It is seen as the way to improve membership and make it easier for members . 10.SPECIAL INTEREST Groups - The Management Committee (Christchurch based) was directed to investigate. A motion was tabled for discussion. There are several more steps to take before members are given the opportunity to vote on the remit. In principle I feel that it would be a good thing to bring in the one make clubs –
increasing our overall membership. I know that a large number of Hillman/Humber Club members are also VCC members – but there are still many who are not. 11 AGM CHRISTCHURCH - To be held at the Rydges Latimer Hotel Christchurch. As it is the Club’s 75 birthday there will be additional events and rallies. I think that I will drive down in the Vanguard and make a week of it. 12 CC STAFF. Julie Cairns has resigned and the new Admin lady spoke. There was also a presentation on the new software now used by the office. It will make reporting to branches a lot easier. 13 NEW VCC LOGO - President Diane Quarrie made a presentation of the new logo with examples of letterhead, window stickers , Beaded Wheels front page, Many liked the new logo - further information will be circulated. I have given our Editor a scanned version for the Rivet so that members can get an idea. 14 NATIONAL EVENTS. Chairman Bruce outlined our plans for a “Commercial Rally” to be held in November 2023. A formal presentation and vote will be made at the AGM. 15

We have decided to have our rally this year, after twice having to call it off due to the Coviv 19 restrictions. The date has been changed to the 30th /31st October 2021 (after Labour Weekend) We have booked the RSA for the dinner on the Saturday night The route for the rally is been finalised at the present time. The Entry Form for the rally will be forwarded to you soon. Also there will be an informal get together at the RSA on the Friday night at 6 p.m. (Instead of usual Pot Luck Tea) Branch News In the middle of last year we “gave up” our Branch rooms due to the high cost of electricity and insurance. We now share rooms and space with the TRAC orgaisation in Bell Road (across the Railway Lines from the main street the north end (near the turn table} in the old Goods Shed. Manawatu Branch PV-PWV-P60-P80 Rally Quite a few of us joined Manuwatu Branch for their rally on the 1st of May. A simple format led us on quite and extensive tour of the mid section of the lower North island. Everything started with two general knowledge questions at the start and then over the Pahiatua we went answering ten questions on the route. Answer sheets were handed over at the Pongaroa Hotel at lunch with a chance to stretch our legs and fill our tanks. (For those who remembered) The afternoon run took us to Dannevirke for the presentation, (And the chance to fill our empty fuel tanks) After the presentation we were treated to a short history of the area we had visited, a great way to close the day. Thanks for having us.

38th Annual Castrol Motorcycle Trial Because of the Covid 19 lockdown last year the 38th trial had to be postponed. This year there were 35 entries for the Annual Castrol Autumn Motorcycle Trial with one unable to start due to illness. The competitors began leaving the clubrooms in Wanganui East to begin the timed section at 9.30 am on Saturday morning. The course this year took them north up the Wanganui River Road through some beautiful scenery of the Whanganui National Park. This led onto Raetihi Primary school where a good lunch was provided by the parents of the school children to raise funds for an upcoming trip. The afternoon section was untimed and saw the bikes return to the clubrooms again via State Highway 4, the Parapara Highway. Dave Henwood although wining his class, had to return in the afternoon on the tail end charlie’s trailer due to fuel problems. All other competitors returned under their own steam. The dinner and prize giving began at 6.00 pm again at the clubrooms. A beautiful dinner was provided by Eilidh Pitkethley and some willing club members. The overall winner was Glyn and Cathy Clements on their 1982 Honda CX sidecar. They have been attending our trial for many years. The Coleman cup which is presented for the highest scoring local club member was won by Sam Wilson on his 1960 AJS 650. Willie Wood was our oldest competitor at age 85 and Melissa Tate was our youngest. The day was a great success and very much enjoyed by all with some saying they had never been up the River Road. The weather was very kind with only one short but very sharp shower at Raetihi at the end of the timed section. A big thank you to all helpers who gave their time to willingly, without which the trial would be unable to run.

Your club needs YOU We are rapidly approaching our AGM and as normal all positions are open to applications. We have three positions this year where the present incumbents have expressed a desire to retire.
Chairman,
we have an unwritten rule that 3 years is a fair stint for a chairman and Bruce has been in the position for four so he’s ready to be relieved. The chairman has the full committee and the whole of our membership to assist in keeping the club cogs well oiled, it’s a team leader’s position.
Club Captain, Probably the busiest position on the committee but again there is a wealth of experience within the club to help in bringing the newcomer up to speed. The most responsible section of a club captain’s duties is the setting, running and organising our two big rallies, the Burma and our Annual Rallies but also the monthly runs/activities are under his jurisdiction.
Rally Secretary,
Steve has offered to stay in place to help the new incumbent until next years Burma Rally but we need someone to work with him as soon as possible so he can show them the ropes.
RIVET Editor. I have been producing the RIVET for quite a few years now and it’s time for a change. A new format and fresh ideas would breath a bit of life into the publication. I will be available to assist in the technical requirements as it is produced electronically. There is plenty of software out there to help publish club magazines so the scope is wide open.

Rally Regulations 1. This rally is open to vehicles as defined in the rules of The Vintage Car Club of New Zealand (Inc.) 2. Eligible entrants must be current financial members of The Vintage Car Club of New Zealand (Inc.), or overseas residents who are members of a recognised Antique Motoring Club. The entrant must be either the driver, rider, navigator, or passenger of the vehicle entered. Invited guests are deemed Non-Competitive and should not interfere with the competitive section of the rally. 3. Actions that may bring The Vintage Car Club of New Zealand (Inc.) into disrepute will incur disqualification. 4. Any entrant found using any electronic navigation device may be disqualified. 5. Any vehicle changes made after the closing date will see the entry moved to the non-competitive class. 6. We prefer that you carry a fire extinguisher in your vehicle. 7. Club Captain’s Report for May 2021 Hello to you all
The Annual Castrol Motorcycle Trial was held on Saturday 17 April with fine weather shining on everyone after an early morning downpour with thunder and lightening sent all riders seeking out their rain-wear but the weather gods were kind! The ride to Pipiriki via the Whanganui River Road then onto Raetihi and after lunch home through the Parapara Highway was thoroughly enjoyed by the some 36 motorcyclists who took part. Our Guest Speaker for May Club night was Des Warahi the General Manager of Mainstreet Whanganui and he gave an enlightening talk on the Mainstreet organisation and the work they undertake to keep our lovely City looking so good. Thank you Des great to have you at our Club. The Club Run for May will be on Sunday 16 May 2021 with Shane and Noeline Hobman no doubt setting an entertaining drive for us. Meet at the VCC Clubrooms by 1 o’clock for a 1:30 pm departure – bring some afternoon tea along to share for when we return to the Clubrooms. Don’t forget the Club ‘working bee’ on Saturday 22 May 2021 – come along ready to go at 9 o’clock Saturday morning – some lunch will be organised to keep you all well nourished. Our Club’s AGM will be held on Wednesday 2 June 2021 - come along at 7:30 pm and listen to what your Club has achieved over the past year. If you would like to help in some way over the next year your nomination will be well received. See you there. Our Annual Rally is set down for Sunday 6 June 2021 – if you haven’t entered as yet please do so before 24 May 2021.
