Chairman Bruce’s notes I am very pleased to present this report for the 65th AGM of the Wanganui Branch of the VCC of NZ. As our Club membership continues to grow we are seeing more and more vehicles coming into the branch. A number of vintage, PV, P War and Post 60 cars have arrived this year. We have lost a number of valued members over the year but each month receive a number of new membership applications, (3 last night). Long may it continue. Our branch membership now stands at 220. January 2019 our NZVCC membership stood at 8560 members with 20228 vehicles listed on the club database (A 357 vehicle increase from January 2018) Another entertaining year for the members: Sunday runs, tours, rallies, promotions galas, displays etc. with good turnouts to most events. Keep it up as organisers of events appreciate a good turnout for all their work. Our biggest rally / vintage weekend in January. This has gone from strength to strength since 2012. It now covers 4 days and attracts people and vehicles from all over the country. The club committee has hummed this year. A great group of members, and I am forever grateful to you. Special mention to Frank James, 1st year Club Captain and retiring rally secretary Linda O’Keeffe. The Wanganui branch (incl. flag and gazebo) have been well promoted during the year and we have also had great coverage from the Chronicle, “Midweek” and “River City Press” of our outings around the city. (3 pages RCP last week’s rally). Wanganui Branch has always had a high profile in this fair city. Sponsors, advertisers and rally pack and raffle donors are always appreciated and make the running of any event that much easier. Thanks to you all. Presentation of 25, 35 and 50 year badges has continued this year. Congratulations to all participants. Clubroom and ground improvements have continued and working bees have been very well supported over the year. Remember this is your Club and Clubrooms. Cheers Bruce A Chairman 2019

May Sunday Run Well last month’s run was enlightening, I’m not sure how many members had actually visited a gallery before. Our Host, Rick Rudd, was on hand to guide us through a very interesting seiries of rooms with a fabulous selection of pottery that certainly had everyone talking, The run had a competetive side and the first clue was hidden in one of the rooms, after a little Number Plate obscured to searching and various opinions on the avoid any objects on display we were off to visit stop embassment number two. but what parking! Mind I thought I was the only Whanganui resident you it did drive that had not visited the “Cameron Block out again. House”. It seems I was wrong as everyone I spoke to, most of whom were Whanganui born and bred, had not called in on any of the many times they had driven by. We were all very impressed with the presevation and information on the blockhouse and the reasons these structures were erected. A great stop and useful next time we have relatives passing through, thanks to the Camerons, past and present. Third stop was to Keith’s favourite, “Collard Castle”, our hosts Maggie and Larry were on hand to lead us through what has been achieved since our last visit and where they plan to go in the future. This project, to which we as a club have been involved from the onset is absolutely fabulous and it goes from strength to strength. The scale never ceases to be overwhelming but blends perfectly room to room and staircase to being able to park the mercedes in the lounge along with 50 or so guests. The dining table, apparantly aquired from a German castle is at least the size of a normal dining room. Where else do you visit and are wary of the Draw bridge dropping on your head. All in all a very interesting Sunday afternoon, see you next year.

Couple in their nineties are both having problems remembering things. During a check-up, the doctor tells them that they're physically okay, but they might want to start writing things down to help them remember .. Later that night, while watching TV, the old man gets up from his chair 'Want anything while I'm in the kitchen?' he asks. 'Will you get me a bowl of ice cream?' 'Sure.' 'Don't you think you should write it down so you can remember it?' she asks. 'No, I can remember it.' 'Well, I'd like some strawberries on top, too. From the desk of Frank James, Wanganui Branch Club Captain Hello to you all. Thank you to Keith Turner for organising the Club Run on Sunday 26 May 2019 which included visits to three places of interest with the final place being at Collard’s Castle at Turakina where we all enjoyed our afternoon tea after taking in a tour of this amazing building. The Annual Rally which was held on Sunday 2 June 2019 attracted some 50 entries but at least three cars didn’t make the start line for varying reasons. The day was fine but cold with a strong southerly wind blowing. The morning run out through Fordell and Kauangaroa, down the Turakina Valley Road to the township then back through Okoia to the lunch stop at our VCC Clubrooms took competitors some two hours. The afternoon run was a little shorter than the morning and took everyone out through Brunswick, Kai Iwi, Mosston and eventually all found their way back to the Clubrooms for a cuppa. The overall winners of the Rally were Lee and Karen Taylor and congratulations to them. The Club’s AGM was held on the evening of Wednesday 5 June 2019 with some 34 Club Members. The meeting went well with just the one position - that of Rally Secretary still to be filled. All other positions remain unchanged. Alex and Lynn Garrett were presented with their 25 Year Badges. We look forward to seeing members at the Clubrooms on Saturday 22 June 2019 for a working bee to do general tiding-up work around the grounds and buildings – we’ll start at 9:00am and should be finished by 12 o’clock noon with a break for morning tea mid-morning. Our July Club Night will be on Wednesday 3 July 2019 with Kyle Dalton being our Guest Speaker who will talk on the History and Heritage of our River City Wanganui. Dave McDermid has kindly agreed to take us out for a Club Run on Sunday 21 July 2019 and we look forward to what secrets Dave will ‘spring on us’!
