Chairmans Notes Greetings everyone. As you will be aware from my last report I took the VCC club management advice and recommendations to cancel meetings and events until mid June. Well done to members contributing reports / photos to our facebook page. (Our branches efforts were mentioned in a report by our national president) It’s nice to be back, hope you managed to attend to a number of those jobs on your club vehicles, I know a number of you did. I managed to finish painting the house, yes! Fourth time in 45 years of ownership, same colours and brand of paint. I also refurbished and recommissioned a number of tractors and a Landrover for display use. June the 2nd we had our first committee meeting since the lockdown and we are now getting back into the groove. This branch is hosting the Vintage Car Club of NZ National Executive and AGM at the Kingsgate Hotel, Friday 14th - Sunday 16 August 2020. (Last time 1973) Committee is on track with the organisation of this event. Club members will be asked to attend meetings and support this event and supply cars to carry delegates + management. More details next month. July AGM is next month, remember all positions are available. Fill out the nomination form in this Rivet and get them to the secretary. We may need a RIVET editor and a couple of members to come up the ranks, give it some thought. We all need to take a turn and help with the running of the club. Thanks a lot

July 2020 AGM Chairman’s report I am pleased to present this report for our “Late” 66th AGM of the Wanganui Branch of the VCC of NZ’ Another entertaining year for members. Sunday runs, tours, rallies, galas, displays, promotions, (Vintage Weekend) have seen good turnouts to most events. A big thank you to Frank James and all the dedicated committee, members and helpers all of which came to a grinding halt on March 26th 2020 two days after my 51st birthday. (Editor’s note this figure has not been, “Fact Checked”. Our biggest event of the year continues to be the Burma Rally / Vintage Weekend event in January. Held over 4 days now with all events being well supported, now with visitors staying over a number of nights to enjoy all events. The city has now got behind this annual event. Membership continues to grow, numbers now at 227. So, long may it continue. Some interesting vehicles have been acquired by club members with a number of vintage class vehicles also coming in with new members. Club nights have been well supported and we have had some interesting guest speakers and entertainment To club members, volunteers + supporters my heartfelt thanks for the help you have given over the year and I hope will continue to do so. Club Captain’s Report Hello to you all Well three months has gone ‘up in smoke’ with the Covid 19 virus keeping us ‘chained-up’ to varying degrees but as the shackles are being loosened we can get moving again. We can now get out of our chairs and drive our much loved cars. Well done to Peter for his regular ‘news bulletins’ on what so many members have been doing during these ‘weird times’ – very interesting and amusing. Great stuff. We had our first Committee meeting on Tuesday 2 June after a three month break and are all keen to get moving again. I have organised a Sunday Run for 21 June 2020 and this will be a drive in the country (sealed roads) with afternoon tea back at our Clubrooms. Please meet at the Clubrooms by 1 o’clock on Sunday afternoon and we’ll head out for our drive at 1:30pm. Please bring a plate of Afternoon Tea to share and leave it at the Clubrooms where we’ll come back to so we can all enjoy time for a chat over a cuppa etc. Our Club AGM will be on our first Club Night back on Wednesday 1 July 2020 – come along and enjoy your fellow Club Members company as we do what we have to do as a Club to move into another year. Our July Club Run will be a little different in that it will be on a Saturday for Neil Farrer’s special birthday – meet at the Clubrooms at 1 o’clock as for a usual Sunday Run and we’ll head away around 1:30pm returning to the VCC Clubrooms for an afternoon tea provided by Neil. Great to catch-up again and look forward to seeing you all on Sunday 21 June.

Monday 12th October: 2pm: Please arrive at the North Shore VCC Clubrooms, 40 Masons Rd, Oteha, Albany, North Shore, by 2pm for our VCC meet & greet, vehicle scrutineering, RallySafe installation, afternoon tea etc. (Exit 410 Oteha Valley Rd off the Northern Motorway). Overnight: Albany Executive Motor Inn, 15 Corinthian Drive, Albany. Tel 09 414 1156 Alternate suggestion: Ramada Albany, Cornerstone Drive, Albany. Tel 09 974 4568 Tuesday 13th October: 9am: Documentation for VCC at North Harbour Stadium, Stadium Drive, Albany followed by car display & compulsory driver/co-driver briefing during the afternoon, (time tbc). 7pm: Legends of Targa Dinner at North Harbour Stadium. (Two tickets included with entry fee). Overnight: As for Monday above. Wednesday 14th October: Targa 2020 starts from North Harbour Stadium & travels west before heading north for lunch at Mangawhai Heads on the East Coast, then on to Whangarei for the first of two nights. Approximately 120kms of special stage & 170kms off touring. Overnight: Kensington Motel, 85 Kamo Rd, Kensington, Whangarei. This is a short day to allow plenty of time to arrive back in Auckland ahead of the rush hour traffic as we overnight in Manukau City. Approximately 80kms of special stage & 130kms of touring. Overnight: Rayland Motel, 12 Lakewood Court, Manukau. The Mercury Bay Club at 69 Cook Drive have offered a set menu choice for approx. $25pp + drinks. Hopefully we can all be there together to enjoy a great meal, share stories & experiences from 4 days of our event, along with presentation of Participation Awards for our Targa 2020 VCC Time Trial.
