Chairmans Report - July 2021 Greeting Earthlings Cheer up, we are past the shortest day. - All engines that aren’t being used over the winter months should all have had their annual oil and filter change. Remember when sitting idle that’s when most damage takes place inside and engine. - Veteran news travels. We all saw that lovely picture of our Ian and Fay on the cover of the Feb/March Beaded Wheels driving their 1906 Red, well it has appeared on the cover of the American Reo Club Magazine (featured in this Rivet - Editor). Well done! - You have all read and heard about the possible change to the VCC of NZ logo. We did a presentation from Management at the Club night. All 230 members can have a yay or nay say on this. See details in this mag. I’m old school and know which way I will be voting. - I attended a meeting with 13 other VIC signatories in Levin last month with Roger White, “Technical Committee Chairman”. Just a refreshing course and update on VIC applications. Vehicles with no provenance and built up out of parts are causing problems. - All members wanting to attend the New Plymouth Vero Rally will require a VIC number. Phone me or Shane now if you want help with the application. You will all remember two and a half years ago I told all members planning to go to put $10 pw aside for this event. By the time the rally starts in January 2022 you will have $1300 to cover entry and petrol. Easy ay. Remember this is your best chance to attend an international rally and will possibly be the last. - July Club night was another entertaining evening. Carlos Zeavallios from Comvita Honey gave an entertaining talk and overhead presentation. Most interesting and good questions from the members. I didn’t know the mites were so large. - July 18, Sunday run. They tell me I am organising it, shed raid around town. 1pm at the Clubrooms. - Who’s been to the dentist lately? 25 minutes in the chair holding the pretty assistant’s hand cost me $460. July Club night was good timing. Ah ha, I thought. I’ll ask for $10 each to cover the bill, still waiting. Friends ha.
- On a sadder note, we had the passing of Barbara Kendrick. Barbara was a valued member for 35 years, she had many committee positions, including secretary for many years, and rallied her 1937 Sunbeam Sport Motorcycle all over the country. I had the pleasure of speaking at her funeral and we are blessed in still having family members as part of our club membership. Farewell Barbara 91 years. - That’s my lot for this month. Got 5 grandchildren turning up today (Sunday) for a week of work and no pay. No TV or i-pads here. Did you know that New Zealand wastes nearly 5000 tons of potatoes per years. Just thought you should know. Cheers

Club Captain’s Report for July 2021 Hello to you all We had a good attendance for July Club Night and an interesting talk from local Comvita Honey Manager Carlos – the world of Manuka honey and the horror of the varroa mite quite incredible. The July Sunday Run will be held on 18 July with Bruce Ardell taking us on a ride with some sheds to be viewed along the way. Meet at the VCC Clubrooms by 1 o’clock for a 1:30 pm departure – bring some afternoon tea, a drink and a chair in case we don’t come back to the Clubrooms – weather conditions will decide this. August Club Night (Wednesday 4 August 2021) will include a talk from Anne-Marie Farmer the Whanganui District Manager for the Automobile Association. I’m sure AnneMarie will have plenty of information for us to hear about on the various services the AA offers. The Daffodil Rally will be held on Sunday 22 August 2021 starting and finishing at the Racecourse Car-park in Purnell Street – if the day should happen to be wet indoor facilities will be available. See the Entry Form elsewhere in the Rivet and get your entry in quickly please. The deliveries of Cancer Society ‘goodies’ will be delivered by VCC members on Thursday morning 26 August 2021 – if you would like to help please give me a call.
‘Shiny Parts’ Auction night is just around the corner – Club Night Wednesday 1September 2021 – start putting together the treasures you no longer love or have space for and bring them along that evening.

Proposed new VCC New Zealand Logo • At the AGM in Greymouth in August 2019 the proposition was put to the members attending that the Club should be updating its brand and image • They agreed and gave the Management Committee approval to investigate and develop an initial concept for a new logo • They also agreed that while the Vintage Car Club of New Zealand would always be our official name, the focus of the new logo would be ‘VCC’
