Chairmans Notes Greetings and salutations everyone. - January Club night picnic, barbecue and social evening at the Clubrooms was enjoyed by a good muster of members and friends. A lovely social evening outside with families, children and grandchildren and a number of Club vehicles and new Club vehicles present for viewing. A big thank you to Doreen Hardy for organising the food, deserts and all yummy. Much appreciated by all present. - I hope every member managed to attend some part of the January 4 day “Burma Rally” and “Vintage Weekend”. With over 80 entries we had a great turnout to all events. Thanks to the committee, marshals and all Club members who assisted including manning the Club gazebo during the Saturday “Wheels on Victoria” (put on by the Club,) handing out VCC mags and event brochures and information about the VCC. This all helped make it an enjoyable weekend for members and the general public who flocked to most events in their thousands and now Whanganui’s largest annual event. The brilliant weather over the weekend played a big part too. Cars, planes, buses, trains, boats, steam; all part of the event. The city was certainly abuzz. Friday night meet and greet at the Grand, Saturday “Wheels on Victoria”, Saturday night “Classic Cruise”, thanks Keith T and Peter H, Sunday “Burma Rally”. Sunday night saw 145 people attending the dinner and prize giving. Overall rally winners were Pat and Sandra Carrick - 1938 Ford. Well done and well deserved as they are regular attendees and helpers. We also had the presentation of a 50 year badge to Stephen Voss. Monday morning saw 48 cars head off on Bruce’s “Wellington Anniversary Run”, a loop around Okoia and Kai Iwi, 28 miles ending up at branch members (27 Erskine) Colin and Tracey Mathews homestead, SH3. Members were welcomed and Colin and Tracey gave a brief history of the property and the restoration work. Members were then invited inside to view the beautiful restoration work done so far. A credit to both. Also Colin’s toy shed out the back. After an enjoyable morning tea and farewell speech everyone headed home. Phew! - February Club night speaker was Club member and funeral director Steve Hibberd. He spoke and showed pictures of the progress in the modes of transport to carry the body through the ages and explain some of the terms used during funerals. I also had the pleasure of presenting the local branch “Navigator of the Year” trophy to Karen Taylor (Winner of last year’s night trial and a couple of rallies). Well done woman. Meet after 8.30 am at VCC Club rooms for a tea / coffee before the Ramble. The briefing will be at 8.45 am with the first car away at 9.00 am. The route does include unsealed roads of approx 3kms. The Ramble is 240kms/150miles approx This rally will have no competitiveness on the route run. Please bring picnic lunch and drink for lunch and there are chairs and tables under shelter. There will be opportunity for petrol on the route. Afternoon tea will cost $3.00 per person please have cash for this.

REPORT ON BURMA RALLY 2020
The Burma Rally for 2020 was held on Sunday 19 January with some 85 vehicles starting from Somme Parade with the first car away at 9:00am then the rest of the field followed at one minute intervals. The Rally competitors travelled through Brunswick, Kai Iwi, Maxwell, Coastal country out the back of Waverley before ending up at the Whenuakura School for the lunch-stop. The afternoon Rally route went inland from Waverley through Moumahaki, Ngutuwera and Maxwell before crossing SH 3 to travel through Rapanui and Tayforth. Competitors travelled through the outskirts of the River City via Mosston and Castlecliff before crossing the City Bridge into Wanganui East to eventually arrive at the VCC Clubrooms for afternoon tea. The overall winners of the Rally were local Club members Pat and Sandra Carrick in their 1938 Ford 7Y car. Congratulations to you. Winners of the various classes were as follows; Class 4 – Stewart and Dale Parsons – 1930 Ford Model A Class 5 – Pat and Sandra Carrick – 1938 Ford 7Y Class 8 – Paul and Carol Fussey – 1954 Morris Minor Convertible Class 10 – Bruce and Claire Benge – 1946 Ford Jailbar half-ton Pickup Class 11 – Shane and Noeline Hobman – 1962 Chevrolet Bel Air The Hard-luck Trophy was awarded to Sue Voss who had the misfortune to suffer a broken windscreen in her Morris Marina – this occurred in the morning section of the Rally going up the Kai Iwi hill. Hello to you all. January has been and gone for another year and what a busy and enjoyable time it was. Thanks to everyone who helped make the BBQ picnic a very good evening especially Doreen for her all her work. The whole Vintage weekend went very well with beautiful fine weather topping it off. A big thank you to everyone who helped in some way over the weekend with special thanks to those who took time out to help us with the Burma Rally on the Sunday with the marshalls, time recorders/ keepers, tail-end-charlie, afternoon tea providers and VCC Committee members all playing an important part in making the event so successful. Thank you to Steve Hibberd , Managing Director of Vi c t o r i a O a k s F u n r e a l Home for his entertaining talk at last week’s Club Night – well done Steve and we are now all the wiser about the history of the ‘hearse’.
For those Club members going over to Napier for Art Deco weekend on 22-23 February best wishes for a very enjoyable time over there. On Wednesday 26 February 2020 we will make a visit to Wanganui Enterprises to view the Factory while operating – Manager Andy Lin spoke to our Club last year and invited us to visit – meet at the VCC Clubrooms at 2:15pm Wednesday afternoon and when assembled we’ll make our way there. Please do not go direct to the Factory. Continued
Our early March Club event will be on Sunday 1 March for the Gymkhana at Charlie and Kathy Anderson’s property at 135 Union Line. There is no need to meet at the VCC Clubrooms first just travel direct to the venue – from the top of Durie Hill proceed along No 2 Line until you reach the Matarawa Church then turn right into Union Line and continue carefully along this Road until you reach Anderson’s property which is on the left side of the Road – look out for the VCC Club sign. Please bring a plate to contribute to the Afternoon Tea – tea and coffee will be provided. Come along for a bit of fun for the afternoon. Club Night on 4 March will include a talk and display by Graham Hall of some very interesting model machinery – see you there. Please don’t forget to bring something for the supper table.

TWENTY-FIVE and THIRTY-FiVE YEAR BADGE GUIDELINES
These awards will be issued to members of the VCC who have achieved twenty-five years consecutive (financial) membership of the VCC regardless of branch. Members should apply to their Branch Committee providing appropriate evidence of twenty-five years consecutive service. Branches must submit to the VCC National Office the recipient’s name and all information to authenticate their twenty-five years continuous membership to the Club. Badges are forwarded by the National Office and the Branch will be invoiced all relevant costs. The Branch Committee will arrange presentation of the award at an annual function, e.g. Annual Rally Dinner, Prize Giving etc or special meeting, by the Chairman or Club Captain
