Chairmans Notes Greeting everyone, August is going to be a busy month for this club. Neil Farrer, yes, the birthday boy, turned 80. An interesting run organised by Neil and a pleasant afternoon tea supplied by the boy went down well with the VCC members, friends from around the country and his family members, heaps. Hundreds at the clubroom for afternoon tea and a catch-up was most enjoyable and entertaining. A speech by me and Neil and the cutting of a bee, (Stripes and all) all birthday cake, mostly made and decorated, bees and all, by Siobhan Pitkethly, well done both. Club night, 5th of August, we had the pleasure of hearing members Marion Johnson immediate past Governor of Rotary New Zealand and assistant Michael talking about her years in Rotary and her role as Governor. Most entertaining and the right person for the roll. The passion she had whilst talking about the screen footage of their world travel with Rotary and her achievements over the many years she has been involved with the rotary. No heavy eyelids during this presentation. Fay C. got up and presented a bit of humour to the members and I had the pleasure of pinning a 35 year plus badge on Sue Voss. Rounding out the evening I presented Marion with a bottle of wine and some chocolates. Talking about wine and gifts that I present to our guests, our member Glynis Robinson over many years has regularly wrapped and decorated these items for me, thanks Glynis, xxx
The organising by the committee is tracking very well for the New Zealand Vintage Car Club AGM and national executive meeting that this branch is hosting, (Last time in 1984 with John Souter at the intermediate school with John Souter Photographer) This takes place Friday night the 14th of August to Sunday 16th. Most of the 36 New Zealand
branch delegates, supporters and chairmen will be in attendance. Midweek paper are doing a feature about us hosting this event, Next month September Club night will be the popular shiny parts auction. No household junk, magazines, cooking or gardening books please. Our committee is left to dispose of unsold items. Let's see a good muster to make it an entertaining night, don't forget the pockets of cash for Neil. My 2000 engine valves got sorted by the grandchildren over the school holidays. I think I heard a bit of mumbling after the third day but job’s done. That’s is my lot for this month, see you on the Daffodil Rally for Cancer on the 23rd August and on the daffodil delivery day Cheers

Targa 2020 VCC Time Trial – Breaking News The Targa 2020 VCC Time Trial is now being run as two conjunctive events-: 1. The 4 day time trial starting Albany, Auckland Thursday 15th October 2020, travelling over closed tarmac road stages to overnight in Whangarei, before returning via closed road stages to overnight in Ellerslie Friday 16th October. 2. A 2 day time trial starting Ellerslie, Auckland Saturday 17th October 2020. This is a totally new event with a significantly reduced entry fee aimed at VCC members who wish to enjoy an outstanding Targa VCC event over a weekend. On Saturday 17th October, both 2 and 4 day entrants travel over closed tarmac roads on the Coromandel to overnight in Whitianga, where all VCC entrants, friends & family are invited to join for a meal together at the Mercury Bay Club, and where we’ll also be presenting some fun participation awards.
Sunday 18th October will see all of us returning over closed tarmac roads on the Coromandel to event finish & prize giving dinner in Pukekohe. The Targa VCC Time Trial 4 day & all new 2 day event gives VCC members with VCC/VIC eligible cars an outstanding opportunity to test their driving & time-keeping skills over closed tarmac stages, safe in the knowledge that they’re all driving in the same direction from start intervals, with nothing coming towards them. It’s not a race, and no special car modifications (roll cage etc), are required. Hello to you all We had a very enlightening address from Marion Johnson at our Club Night on 5 August 2020 – thank you Marion for the insight into Rotary and travels associated with your role as a past Governor of Rotary NZ. An interesting and enjoyable talk. The Daffodil Rally will be held on Sunday 23 August 2020 leaving from the Memorial Centre Forecourt - you will find an Entry Form in the Rivet - $10.00 per car. Peter Hardy is looking .after this – thank you Peter, 0212723444. (See page 7 for the entry form) The Cancer Society deliveries for Daffodil Day ‘goodies’ to local businesses will be done by VCC Members on Thursday 27 August – thank you to everyone who has offered to help - if I haven’t heard from you and you would like to help please let me know. I will phone you all with times etc a few days before the 27th. ‘Shiny Parts’ Auction night is just around the corner – Club Night 2 September – start putting together the treasures you no longer love or have space for and bring them along that evening. Graham Hawtree will again be our Auctioneer for the evening so come along for the fun. Please keep an eye on the ‘Calendar’ in the Rivet for details of future events.

Neil’s 80th Birthday Run – Saturday 25 July 2020 We had a beautiful ‘Spring Day’ on 25 July to help me celebrate my special birthday with a Club run through some lovely countryside and back through the City returning to our VCC Clubrooms for afternoon tea.
We sent some 30 cars of varying ages and makes away from the Clubrooms around 1:30 pm with everyone safely back before 3 pm. To keep drivers and navigators ‘on their toes’ I added a few
questions into the instructions for the afternoon and we had six teams who correctly answered the questions and those people were Ian and Sarah Howell (Manawatu Branch VCC), Dave McDermid and Mihi Backhouse, Stephen and Claudia-Ann Voss, Dale Whitaker with Ann Berntsen and Susan Voss, Sam and Irene Wilson and Tom and Lyndel Wilson.Well done to you all and I hope you are enjoying the honey. was very pleased to see a number of visitors from other nearby VCC Branches joining fellow local Club Members. With with my family also coming along to the Clubrooms we filled the rooms to capacity making the afternoon a very pleasurable occasion for me. Thank you to everyone who helped especially Mike Hos who supplied the lovely afternoon tea for us. Neil

Monday 12th October: 2pm: Please arrive at the North Shore VCC Clubrooms, 40 Masons Rd, Oteha, Albany, North Shore, by 2pm for our VCC meet & greet, vehicle scrutineering, RallySafe installation, afternoon tea etc. (Exit 410 Oteha Valley Rd off the Northern Motorway). Hopefully we can all be there together to enjoy a great meal, share stories & experiences from 4 days of our event, along with presentation of Participation Awards for our Targa 2020 VCC Time Trial.
