From the Chair Greetings All, We have had a very upset week with the sudden change in Covid status and, as you know, a great many events have had to be cancelled at the last minute. The National Motorcycle Rally that we have worked on for two years is one of those – with a quarter of our entrants coming from Auckland or further North and our numbers currently restricted to 100, the event is just not viable. We are hoping to postpone to the end of the year and transfer our arrangements, but that will depend on the Covid situation and National Office, This is hugely disappointing for the Rally Committee who have put in hours of work to coordinate a fabulous event and we owe them a huge vote of thanks for their dedication. We had a small group at the Club night on Tuesday who were entertained by Val Ball. Val is an experienced speaker, who related some of her experiences as an SPCA Inspector in

the Wairarapa. Thank you Val. For those of you who are entered in the Stretched Gymkhana, it is still on. Out of doors and under 100 people, we can maintain our social distancing and still have a good time. Please stay at home if you are unwell however. Our clubnight in April falls on Easter Monday, so we propose to hold an informal Run that will end in a shared meal somewhere. Simon O’Hara is organising this and has all the details (after the Stretched Gymkhana of course). Keep smiling, folks! And happy motoring,

From the Club Captain Sunday 14th February. Remembrance rally. Cars lined up after a coffee for some, and a briefing from Pat. We set off, turned right out of the club rooms and a wander around some back roads of Carterton, then across the main road heading east. Down some more country roads, to pick up a red rose from Franks gate way, on through more country roads to Gladstone school for two challenges - this involved riding a three wheeler bike or a scooter on a time course. The scooter was a breeze - remember in the old days on the stations they usually had a horse that was a handfull to ride and they always gave it to the new chum to ride - well that three wheeler bike was like that, it looked easy but boy did that bike have a mind of its own. Then onto the Masterton drag strip, a few comments about what we were going to do there, it was not a run up the drag strip but a well set out gymkhana. Then pick up a heart from a letter box, and onto our lunch stop at a fantastic venue. After lunch rally results and prizes, and our host took us on a tour of his sheds to view their collections. February Club NIght - Twilight Run There was an excellent turnout of members, new members and potential members to the Twilight Run organised by Tina and Earl Goodin, It was a beautiful summer evening and the route wound through Carterton and the surrounding countryside, In particular many of the newer sub divisions of Carterton were included, which made for an interesting journey. Many of the inhabitants out enjoying an evening stroll seemed a little surprised at the parade of magnificent machinery through their new neighbourhoods, however friendly waves all round was the order of the day. The evening concluded with a return to the clubrooms for tea and coffee. Thanks to Tina and Earl for an innovative route which we all enjoyed.
Cancellation of National Motorcycle Rally To all entrants and club members It is with much regret and disappointment to inform you that the National Motorcycle Rally to have been held in Masterton starting 12th March, has been cancelled. This call has not been taken lightly, however the potential risk to health to all our stakeholders and the financial loses should we had proceeded and then to have the event cancelled at the last minute was too much. We had a strong desire to include riders from all regions in the rally and, under the current levels, 25% of our entrants would not have been able to attend the event. We have, over the last couple of days, looked at the option of postponing the rally to a date in November. This decision needs the approval of the VCC National Executive and

initial discussions yesterday suggests that the uncertainty of Covid 19 and the fluctuating alert levels may make this option difficult. We will start the process today of refunding entrant fees but please bear with us, this could take a few days. Once again, we are disappointed that you could not come and share and enjoy our little corner of the world….perhaps some other time.
