Greetings to all Wairarapa Members, Another spell at Level Two to keep us on our toes and remind us that we may have won a battle but the war is still with us. I hope sincerely that everyone, and especially our older members, are well and not too lonely in their bubbles. Despite the restrictions, Willie James, Mike D’Alton and I travelled to Whanganui for the Executive Meeting and AGM of the VCC on the second weekend of August. As Delegate, I am required to give the Branch a written report of the proceedings. Rather than bore you with screeds of reading, much of which you will get from the Beaded Wheels, I intend to do as I did last year and write my report a bit at a time over the next few Zeniths.

As usual, after the opening remarks by the local branch Chair and a Civic welcome from the Mayor, Andrew Anderson, founding member of the VCC addressed us with his message for this year. After pointing out that Whanganui was the first branch in the North Island, he reminded us that since 2013 he had been stressing the necessity for change. In AD 648 the Chinese had sent out the Back Death pandemic via the Genoese traders that destroyed society and economies everywhere and now we have the Covid-19 pandemic – what will this destroy? The challenge for Team 9000 (the VCC membership) is to move from the Old Folks Home to meet multiple challenges. (I remind you that Andrew is over 90 -Tina). We are in fact 36 teams of about 200 and outstanding leadership is needed to plan for the future of our club. We need Inspiration to back Admiration of Administration. Andrew was followed by the President, Diane Quarrie, reading a long list of apologies that included that of the Secretary, Ian Lavender. Of course, there was no-one from Auckland nor (if my memory serves me right) from Northland. In the Matters Arising, an appeal was made for missing reports covering February to May 1991, among others. Does anyone else, like me, keep that sort of old paperwork? I believe they are going to put the exact dates in Beaded Wheels. Finally, for this report, the Assembly gave a standing ovation when Rod Brayshaw was presented with Life Membership in recognition of his service as Registrar since 1996. John Coomber was similarly honoured. That’s enough for now, come to the September Clubnight and hear more. - Tina Goodin Club Captains Report I could only be involved in the start of the Daffodil Run but was impressed by the turn out, it was good to see so many locals out and about. It seems members like to gather and catch up with people and have a good natter. I would like to see more of this and urge members to submit ideas to the committee to organize events. I would also like to see the area of the down stairs cleaned up and the rubbish removed so it can be used for club activities. When the garage was being used by the beers and banger boys it was shot down but at least it was kept tidy and now it is being used as a rubbish collecting point. On Sunday 27th September, the Morris Enthusiast Club are meeting at the Pahiatua Railway Station Restoration Centre and taking in a visit to the Tin Hut at Mangatainoka, a local museum. Targa New Zealand Targa VCC Time Trial is now unable to be held in October due to Covid-19 and the change of the NZ election date. Unfortunately Targa can't run an event which involves road closures on election day. Mangatainoka Motors Events On the last Sunday of each month from March to November, the Tui Brewery host these events. Our club has been asked to host the "Vintage Car" event this year November 2020.
